Temptation is derived from your own lust.
Yes and temptation comes when one is drawn away...
12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

"Lust of the Eye"....is usually the issue.

"I want THAT......no matter WHAT".........

See how the lust has taken over the mind?.....And you will then do it., as what is in your mind is what you are going to do next.

The NT says....>"be in the world but not OF it"....to a Christian....and this is explained as..>"all that is in the world is LUST of the EYE".....ect.

To be "worldly", is to be owned and controlled by your own lust that desires what you SEE which becomes what you think about that decides what you do.

"Temptation" is not sin.....the sin begins when you DWELL on the Temptation, as at that point you have left noticing it, and have entered into the doing it stage.
Temptation is not sin but lust is...sin begins when you lust. Temptation comes when you are drawn away from Christ... It begins with the person. If the person is in Christ it is unlikely he will be tempted. Temptation comes when one is drawn away from Christ by his own personal (lusts)desires.

Jesus said....."if you look at someone, and in your mind you want to have SEX with them"......its the same as doing it, as you have already become engaged with the desire to do it, to pursue it.
That person who looks at someone, and in their mind, and wants to have SEX with them has already been drawn away from Christ...and in the process of lusting. That is sinning.

Final analysis : Its not wrong to WANT, as we all want.....but its wrong when you want what is wrong for you, as defined by The Law as a SIN or by Paul as a work of the Flesh.
want is not the problem, lust is...

Temptation is the open doorway that leads to sin.
You decide if you go through the door.
temptation only affects those who are already drawn away by lust...and even so, God makes a way of escape, therefore we are without excuse...
1 Corinthians 10:13
There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

Remember that your mind is like a big screen that you are watching.
So, if something comes to the screen that you recognize is LUST< then just change the channel. Change the screen, instantly, as if you dont, you will watch it, and then you will do it.
No, our mind is not like a big screen, that lust just comes on a channel. People lust because they don't want to control their fleshly desires.

Temptation is not the problem....its the DWELLING on it, that is the power that will lead you to commit a sin, a work of the flesh.
No, the temptation is not the problem, the temptation is a sign of an impending problem. God always makes a way out of temptation.
1 Corinthians 10:13
There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

Change the screen.
There is no screen

Renew your mind.
this is the best advice ever...

Its a deceived person who believes that they can be accepted by God, based on keeping the law, keeping "Jesus's commandments", or trying to be good all the time.
How is the person deceived?
James 1:25
But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
Can any of that forgive your sin?
Those who received Jesus repented and were baptized were forgiven of their past sins.
It can not, so, when you realize that God accepts you, only based on the Cross and never based on your behavior..., then for you Ferris, that it s 1st day, the 1st second, that you have understood why Jesus died for you, on The Cross.
does this mean a person does not have to repent?

And when that day comes, if it does, You, Ferris, will stop talking about the Law and commandments, in every post and Thread, and will begin to talk about what Jesus has done for you, which is The Cross.
That day is not here yet, and that is why your endless self saving legalistic rants about the Law and Commandments, keep piling up here on the forum like Dung in a ditch.
Revelation 20:12
And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
Revelation 20:13
And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
