Mother Mary is actually a good role model for all mothers.
Why? Because she is not perfect.
Most knows her to be entirely submissive to God.
But do you know that she actually left Jesus behind at the temple and travelled on a day before realizing He was missing.
Such negligence from a mother towards a son.
Yet, she is said to be the most blessed of woman.
Any woman who aspires to be mother of great heroes and heroines of God can rest assured that she don't have to be perfect before God can use her. Mary is not perfect. She neglects Jesus at one point in her life.
Still, God regarded her as a wonderful mother who He entrusts with His Son.

There must have been a big crowd of people who had travelled to the temple and she must have been busy with her younger children and thought Jesus was with another person. I don't think she was a bad mother.

Still, she did not notice he was missing until one day later.
So does that make her a bad mother or Joseph a bad father. At that time in Jewish culture 12 years was almost adult - bah-mitzvah - when boys became men. Also this visit to the temple would have been with family, travelling together and just as when they were travelling TO Jerusalem, they thought Jesus was with friends, other family or neighbours

Luke 2: 41-44 The Boy Jesus at the Temple

Every year Jesus’ parents went to Jerusalem for the Festival of the Passover. When he was twelve years old, they went up to the festival, according to the custom. After the festival was over, while his parents were returning home, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but they were unaware of it. Thinking he was in their company, they travelled on for a day. Then they began looking for him among their relatives and friends.
