Study of the 'Northern Kingdom' and 'Lost Tribes' of Israel is a perfect example of interesting scholarship with no Scriptural profit in the doctrine of Christ and the covenant of God.

By the time of Christ's coming, the northern kingdom had long ago ceased to exist. They were destroyed as a people from the face of the earth.

They were the destroyed tribes of Israel, not the lost tribes of Israel.

After they were destroyed by Assyria, it was not the 'southern' kingdom of Judah that remained on earth, but rather all of Israel that remained:

And they went about in Judah, and gathered the Levites out of all the cities of Judah, and the chief of the fathers of Israel, and they came to Jerusalem.

The only fathers of Israel on earth were now left in Judah.

But Jehoiada waxed old, and was full of days when he died; an hundred and thirty years old was he when he died. And they buried him in the city of David among the kings, because he had done good in Israel, both toward God, and toward his house.

And when he had broken down the altars and the groves, and had beaten the graven images into powder, and cut down all the idols throughout all the land of Israel, he returned to Jerusalem.

The only land of Israel on earth was now in Judah.

Pertaining to His covenant, God never made any difference between the 'northern and southern' kingdoms, but all were still all the children of Israel to Himself.

Later the lost sheep of the house of Israel, which Jesus came to, were all known as Jews, which was since the days of their captivity in Babylon. Scripture referred to all the children of Israel as such, as well as all nations round about them to the time of Rome.

The 'Northern Kingdom' never had any significance with God and His covenant. It was strictly political after the rebellion of Jeroboam to God.

God never made any sort of covenant distinction between His people pertaining to His promise to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

After the destruction of many of the Israelites on earth by Assyria, the only remaining Israelites were later taken to Babylon in captivity, where they were only known as Jews.

The Jews in the days of Jesus were the only children of Israel on earth after the flesh.

After the crucifixion of Jesus, those born after the flesh are now called Israel in name only, which Scripture refers to as Israel after the flesh.

Until the generation after the coming again of Jesus onto earth, there are no children of Israel in covenant with the risen God of Israel, except them called after His name: Christians.
