If you attend church on Sunday, you are only keeping nine of the Ten Commandments. Asking for trouble?

@BarneyFife
Whether or not you attend church on Sunday doesn't mean anything towards how you keep or not keep the Sabbath, that's a different day. I go to church on Thursday, does that make me a Sabbath breaker?

Much love!

The law does not promote righteousness. The law promotes sin, Romans 7:7-10. Read what Jesus said to the law keeping Pharisees in the 23rd chapter of Matthew.
I think you're missing the point. If you want to stay out of trouble, don't murder, steal, commit adultery, or bear false witness.

You think going to church is work? How about getting out of bed?
These days, you don't even need to get out bed to go to church.
You can attend the service on your phone.
Now you have no excuse to break the Sabbath anymore. - LOL

I'm not crazy about church on the internet. I think the Lord wants us to show up for church to show others that we appreciate what he does for us.

Wow. I didn't expect you to write that.
Not after you wrote this.

So... Do you stay in bed on Sunday, or attend church? Seeing as how "... the Lord wants us
to show up for church to show others that we appreciate what he does for us", right?

That's good.
Is it a requirement of Christianity?
Sabbath-keeping is one of the Ten Commandments?
Do you keep the Sabbath?
Is it a requirement of Christianity? No, I don't think so - it is a personal matter between you and the Lord.

Sabbath-keeping is one of the Ten Commandments? First you have to define "Sabbath-keeping." The Bible tells us to rest on the sabbath. That is simply good advice - we need a day's rest each week. But do we have to go to church? I already answered that.

Do you keep the Sabbath? Yes, I try to rest one day a week.

That's a good general takeaway of OT wisdom.

This why I am such a stickler on the law.
The Sabbath Commandment as presented in the Ten Commandments has some very specific instructions.
The Jews understand this best. sundown on Friday night to sundown on Saturday is the Sabbath day.
Friday before sundown is the preparation day. No food is to be prepared on the Sabbath. Everything is done
in advance. No work of any kind is allowed. In the OT, a man was stoned to death for gathering fire wood.

Exodus 20:8-11 NIV
“Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.
9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work,
10 but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God.
On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter,
nor your male or female servant, nor your animals,
nor any foreigner residing in your towns.
11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth,
the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day.
Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

The Lord told us to rest once a week. My experience is that if I don't get the rest I need, I'm not much good to anyone.

The Lord told us to rest once a week. ...
You are a great example of the application of Christianity Lite. (to coin a term)
You glide across the surface picking up the general idea for life application.
And you seem very happy where you are.

I'm out there in my deep-sea diving suit going deep into the freezing cold murk trying to figure it all out.
Turning over every stone to see what crawls out. Calling out what I see wrong. And going into lengthy explanations
in the hope of helping others see what I have discovered. Still lost in the mystery of it all.

Your summary of the Sabbath is stated above in your quote.
My knee-jerk reaction was to come back with all the reasons why that is an oversimplification.
But I caught myself before I unleashed that on you.

Anyway, I really appreciate you. and your uncomplicated approach to our faith.
Hope you had a good day. Cheers.

The Bible contains the words of our Lord. You should take that seriously.

The purpose of the Bible is to be a witness for Christ and his Gospel.
That would play well in the evangelical echo chamber.

But it really makes no sense at all.

How is it that the "purpose of the Bible is to be a witness for Christ and his Gospel"?
