Hello to you, just writing what is seen hopefully spirit lead, question all things, and test all things and hold fast to what is good.

Romans 6:1-11

New King James Version

Dead to Sin, Alive to God

6 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound?

In the last Chapter Paul writes to the Romans about how faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, makes a person right with God (Romans 5:1-5), having hope through experience in life through all the struggles trusting in God, and having hope in the Son of God, which leads to a hope that is not to be ashamed. Why? It is because the love of God is shed abroad in a person who is a true believer, who has the Holy Ghost which is given to them and it is sent by the Lord Yeshua (John 14:16). Because of Jesus people are justified by God, and they are now given into a new life, may abound because of grace of the Mercy of God, to love us even while we all have sometimes walked in darkness (Romans 5:18-21) without having God in a persons life.

Paul continues writing in his letter, here in Romans chapter 6; which is part of all the rest of the book as they use to have these on scrolls in the ancient days when you think about it.

Paul goes on saying What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound?

What good is it to continue to do bad so that grace may abound? What is the purpose of trying to hurt someone, or try to mess with someones property, or to hurt not just physically but the mentality of a person, surely all of us have had lives we have lived that one can say they were not proud of because I have some myself. However, because of the grace that Jesus Christ had brought to believers, now by and through his death on the cross to be rendered in vain?

2 Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?

He goes on saying, Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? - Paul is stressing the fact, that - there is no reason to continue to sin that grace may abound - but in fact become dead to sin - to mortify the deeds of the body by the spirit, through asking God to help you. To die to sin, to become dead to something is to cut it off from you - as it is no longer living, that can be anger, wrath, hatred, lust, greed, haughtiness, malign, gossip, and surely we have all slipped up, but as christians, I believe Paul will continue on to strive for the spiritual application, and the fleshly application will simmer down, though it will always have desires come up, that one will need to give to God, maybe talk it out with others, but good prayer and reading of the Bible is good.

3 Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?

How have we died to sin? Because of the death of Jesus. People that are baptized are baptized into his death by picking up their cross, putting the Father first, and praying and loving others, in which not only is the person picking up their cross, they are actively having faith and remembering and keeping the Gospel of Christ in mind which is the power of God unto salvation. Yes, we do die to sin by being baptized in the death of Christ which regenerates a person into new spiritual life by having new access to information about God, and the son through the Bible.

4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Paul explains to those saints in Rome, - Being buried with Christ Jesus, through the baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father (by the Spirit of the Father/God), even so - because of being buried with Christ - a person who is a Christian believer should follow after Christ, seeking out him and God in faith, and continue to pray.

5 For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection,

Paul is suggesting if you - we - have been united together in the likeness of His death - by dying to the desires of the flesh and living instead fo the desire of the spirit - certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection.

From my understanding which can always be wrong - is that believers who live here now, have an option to live for God and live for Christ, in faith, and as they grow and learn in the knowledge of God and continue to share with others they will be building up their possibly spiritual home which God will give the spiritual resurrection of believers a body and will be given on the day they are judged and shall be in likeness of His resurrection.

6 knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be [a]done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.
Knowing that because of these things, that our old man (our former way of life that was once only lived by and through the carnal mind - is crucified and renewed with Christ Jesus, that the body of sin - the former fleshly desires and ways.

Gal 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

Gal 5:20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,

Gal 5:21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told youin time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
A list above of the flesh, and it's worldly ways, carnal.
7 For he who has died has been [b]freed from sin.
Paul goes on saying to the sins, that those who make the choice to die with Christ, and be baptized with him in his death, are those who have died becoming freed from sin. How is it you now becoming freed from sin? It was because of the Lord Jesus Christ whom makes a person right with God by having faith in the Gospel; a person may have little faith, or not faith, there are different measures of faith that there with others, and the best way to get knowledge and fortify what you may believe about God and the Lord is to read, and study the Bible.

8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him,

Paul now mentions - Now if we died with Christ - we believe that we shall also live with Him, (meaning in the Kingdom of the Heavenly Jerusalem), in my opinion. Also now today as believers, we experience to know that we also to are partakers of the Kingdom, by faith in Christ, and being adopted into the Fathers kingdom, becoming heirs of the Son, if one walks allows God to work in their life, through all their problems they may have trouble with.
9 knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him.
Paul goes on to say that Christ has been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him.

Because Jesus could have lived forever considering he never had any sin, but instead gave up his life, and allowed the father to put the son to death, three days later, the Father by the Holy Spirit rose Jesus up from he dead, and because of this, the messiah having been raised from the dead, died no more. He will never die any longer, he is now eternal.

Death no longer has dominion over Him. The question is does this mean all death, spiritual death, and physical death? He physically died, therefore we too will die, but the resurrected body which rose again, also had the same wounds having gone in the tomb when he was laid there wrapped as the custom goes for the Jewish people. I believe because of this photo in time of the resurrected Lord, symbolizes that in the after life, we perhaps will have some type of bodies like we have, but it will simply be in a spiritual and better form that God will freely give, at his own discretion, according to his righteous judgements, and lovingkindness and mercies that are new every day.

10 For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God.

Paul goes on to say the death that Jesus had died, he died to sin once for all; I believe this means once and for all; that the life of Christ on the cross ways payment in which lead to the death of Christ ultimately having taken on the worlds sins which were inflicted upon him - in the heavens and earth of the world of Jews before the wrath of God had came upon them.

Now the death was solving the problem of the Law of Moses which was used and abused by many teachers within the nation of Jerusalem at that time - Jesus fulfilled that law completely and his blood was clean and was accepted by God to pardon the sins of all the world - that did not leave out the Covenant with Israel in which lead to the divorcement of the physical Jerusalem into a New Heavenly Jerusalem - in Paul explaining that a person is baptized in Christ death, and being made right by Him, and that because of the death of Christ we should be conformed more to his image which is the image of God, the very expression of his nature and character and that brings for the life that He lives, he Lives to God, by making the choice to live and walk in newness of life, living with active relationship with God with gratitude and thankfulness.

11 Likewise you also, [c]reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Paul goes on to say, reckon yourselves to be dead need to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

I believe the over all message here is the dying to self - by picking up ones cross, and following Christ, being baptized in the death of Christ, and to grow and mature spiritually in which the fleshly ways start to be cut away and the mind and the soul becomes restored by the healing of reading the word and praying and asking God to help to become a person of faith, living for God in love, and living in Christ, having love for others, because if you are in union - you and the Spirit of Christ, and the Holy Spirit, are together, and the Father is there to help you any time of need any where, and he hears the prayers of our hearts, but he desires for us not to be double minded setting our prayers for worldly things, rather than for others, and asking for the things of the spirit for God to help you in your life.

Welcome back, here are some more verses in Romans 6, Paul continues writing onward to the Saints in Rome.

Rom 6:12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
Now knowing that it is now, as a believer in the Gospel of Christ which is the power of God unto Salvation, because of faith in Jesus Christ you are justified before God on the account of everything that Son of God had done on the behalf of the Father and the world itself, reconciling the world back to God.

It is now time to wisen up and understand about how one is to mortify the deeds of the body and live by the spirit (Romans 8:13; Colossians 3:1-5). Which Paul says to those saints in Rome to:

Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.

It is an admonishment for them to not let sin (missing the mark by the flesh) therefore reign in your mortal body - which can either weaken the flesh, or even kill the spirit leading one into a world without God if they are not careful. As the mind is important to take care of. The Lust thereof our desire to sin, should be considered dead and dead because of being baptized in Christ, and because of being raised into newness o life which a person now walks in faith, in understanding they can have peace with God our Father, because of the son who done everything we could not do.
Rom 6:13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
Therefore because of the grace which we now stand under our Father who has adopted us through Christ, and being born again with new experiences in praying and asking God to be over all people you know, and your enemies and to lead you by the spirit which brings forth good and holy things that are not from this world.

Paul encourages them, to neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin (to allow your flesh to reign which causes unrighteousness to cause the action to sin be mentally, physically, abusing others, or ones self, hatred, malice, greed, all of these things are what lies in the heart of man according to Jesus (Matthew 15:1-18).

R6:13 Paul goes on to say but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.

Yield yourselves unto God - by placing him first in your life - yielding to the one whom has given us life now today to breathe.

To yield yourself as those that are alive - by and through the spirit - from the dead (spiritually).

Those who are dead spiritually have not Christ awaken in them yet, he is still sleeping on the ship.

Paul encourages the saints to yield their members (the parts of their fleshly body - maybe the soul (mind/will/emotion), not only to God, not only as those that are alive from the dead, but to yield their members as instruments of righteousness unto God. Meaning to do the right things, living by the spirit serving and placing God first in your life, and yielding to him, changing everything for a person spiritual condition that can be poor sometimes.

Rom 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

Then because of all of this that has been stated thus far - Paul says For sin shall not have dominion over you: for you are not under the law , but under grace.

With Yeshua having paid for the price of sin, he fulfilled the Law of Moses - and now because of becoming dead to sin (to the law of Moses which the Gentiles were never given anyway); and his raising from the dead, now allows people to be occupied by the grace of God, and the grace of the Lord Yeshua, as the Lord had struggled in the flesh, all of us do. And though sometimes sin may come from our heart from time to time, the point is that Sin shall have no dominion over you.

Why does sin have no dominion over you? Because the sin of all the world had been paid for on the cross - and if you have the Spirit of Him, who raised Jesus Christ up from the dead with-in you. Jesus says we can ask the Father for help in our lives, and he will give the Holy Spirit (Luke 11:13).

Praise be to the Father and the Son of God, the desire for them is to allow us to keep our mind focused on the heavenly aspect because the material aspect it is only temporal and you can not buy back time. The flesh likes to try fight the spirit and the spirit try to fight the flesh - you are the decider in which one you let go through with your relationship along with God, through the Messiah - which is all by the grace, and faith in believing and trusting God to be there to help us daily, and we have to die daily to ourselves and all of us struggle with that.
Rom 6:15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.

What then? Paul says, shall we sin, because we are not under the law (Law of Moses I believe) but under grace? God forbid.

Again another question here - Suggesting that considering we are not under the law, lets sin because we are under grace, is that wise to do?

Paul answers his questions, by saying God forbid those things to be so.

The grace here is being justified in Christ because of everything he had done, and because of everything he had done and taking the jewish people out from under the law bringing them into grace. Therefore what reason is there to go on about sinning (to hurt others, or ourselves, by greed, hatred, lust, coveting, sexual immorality,), these things should become dead to the believer. Reference Galatians passage #2 right under verses 6 of Chapter 6.
Rom 6:16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
Here Paul distinguishes that you are the decider in who you lied yourselves to be servants to obey (This could be anything, or anyone), his servants you are to whom you obey (and the servants of those could be anything, or anything); whether of sin unto death (either physically or mentally, or spiritually) - or of obedience unto righteousness (to serve God with an humble, broken, contrite heart, being justified in Christ, allowing God and the Lord whom works in and through you to get the credit for enabling you to continue in your walk of faith and trusting in them.
Rom 6:17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
Going on Paul thanks God, and says that you were the servants of sin, but you have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which is delivered to you. The knowledge of the truth that because of the Holy Spirit, and the Spirit of Christ within you, and dying to mortify the deeds of the body and live by the spirit - though all us have been servants of sins, but now can be servants unto righteousness that can lead to a more life giving life, more than a life taking life which is murderous.
Rom 6:18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.

Being then made free from sin, you became servants of righteousness. To do right by the heart and to follow the spirit always putting God in the midst of every situation.
Rom 6:19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.

Paul explains I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh (the weakness of it): for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness (being set apart from the worldly ways and more intended to be moved more towards the heavenly ways of God, and the messiah, rather than allow your members to continue to fail - put God first in your life, and ask him to help you; to become servants unto righteousness unto holiness, and he will, it is not about being better, or doing more, it is simply just allowing things to be and allowing God to work in and through - by prayer, and sharing the message when you are lead by the spirit.

Rom 6:20 For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.
Though when you were the servants of sin - become dead to sin and alive unto God and Christ, through spiritual means, you were free from doing righteousness when you were the servants of sin.
Rom 6:21 What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.
Paul ask the question to the saints at Rome, what fruit had you then in those things whereof you are now ashamed ? - Fruit of the tree of the knowledge of Good and Evil - our judgements upon fellow neighbors, attitudes and actions that come from the soul (mind/will/emotion), does the fruit one bear in the same things that made you ashamed? For the end of those things is death - either physical death or even lead back to becoming spiritual dead - in which people are servants of sin not being yet made free of the bondage of sin and death which only founding in the Lord Yeshua.
Rom 6:22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.
However, Paul states now being made free from sin - from the old person - the old man - to walk in newness of life by the Gospel of Christ which is power of God unto salvation, and become servants of God, you have your fruit unto holiness (different than the world; as the fruit of the spirit of God, and the spirit of Christ always leads to pure and heavenly fruit, rather than the fruits of the flesh. In the end the result is everlasting spiritual life after this life.
Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
This is a famous line, I have seen many people quote in my time on forum sites. What is interesting here, is that - This is what Jesus suffered, Paul says, For the wages of sin death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Jesus died on the cross, bearing the weight and sin of the world - on behalf of the Father, and for all people that would decide to turn from their ways and walk towards the light - which that light was the light of all mankind, and his name was Immanuel, and Yeshua. That was the wages of sin that killed Jesus, - which equated to his death.

However concerning the resurrection three days later - the gift of God is eternal life through Yeshua Christ our Lord - and that life will be either sleeping - dead - or awoken and the Spirit becomes active with-in you in which you are praying and asking God to help you in your life to help you be a person of faith, seek God out in faith and the Father will reward those who seek him out diligently so be encouraged to learn and seek out the information founded in the Bible, and start from Chapter to the end of a book and grow and learn friends.

Jesus died on the cross, bearing the weight and sin of the world - on behalf of the Father, and for all people that would decide to turn from their ways and walk towards the light -

You just put a FALSE condition on God's Grace., and when you do that, you deny that Salvation is a Gift.
Thats legalism.
Legalism is "anti-Cross".

Let me paraphrase what you just cut and pasted.., so that you can see the problem.

"if you come to the Cross agreeing to turn from your wicked ways and do right, then based on that, i will grant you forgiveness".

See that?
THat is...>"if you do this SELF EFFORT, then i will save you".

And Salvation is not based on you agreeing to do anything.......as its not given based on your performing for it.
If that were the case then God would be obligated to you, because you are performing for Him.
And that Theology denies that Jesus died for you, for FREE, which rejects the finished work of Jesus on the Cross, MatthewG.

Salvation is a GIFT.
Its not something you earn.
Its not something you exchange for.......... its a GIFT.

God's Gifts are not earned, they are only GIVEN.... and "that without repentance".

The only requirement that God demands, is that you BELIEVE with all your heart., as that is REPENTANCE from UNBELIEF, and that is the Repenting you do, that God accepts., as that is FAITH IN CHRIST.

FAITH, is counted as righteousness, and a person is Justified by their Faith,...and not based on their agreement to be good , as you are teaching.

"while we were YET sinners, Christ died for us".

See that? that is not.."stop sinning, turn from it, and then Christ will save you" as you are teaching.

God's Cross justifies "the ungodly" who RECEIVE salvation by Faith.

Every good work anyone does for God in allowing him to work in and through him, should give credit to the whom gave the Holy Spirit by and through faith in Christ Yeshua, whom come and abode in the heart of the believer. Making them right before God justified in faith, in which they are adopted into becoming children by having now access to the Father whom the Lord also prayed to often while he was on the earth. To help one by the spirit, to seek in faith God and he will reward those who do so diligently.

What does Paul suggest a change of life looks like for the believer?

Colossians 3

King James Version

3 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.

Paul is now writing here in Chapter 3 to the colossians in Colossae, and he is writing - saying,

If you then be risen with Christ - meaning if you have raised again with Christ by and through baptism through his death and burial and have now received a newness of heart change because of becoming born again and receive thing kingdom of God any our heart, along with being given the Spirit of God, and the spirit of Christ to dwell and help you fight against the battles that go on in your soul, mind, will, emotion, and spiritually.

seek those things which are above, where Christ sits on the right hand of God - after Jesus had ascended upon before 500 witness, he made his sitting on the right hand of God until all the enemies were placed beneath the feet of Jesus and the Son would give all things back to his Father.

2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

Paul is admonishing and encouraging the Colossians to set their affection on things above, on heavenly, pure, peaceable, good, holy, that are not worldly. And discouraging to lay trust on the things in this world - because it is better to store of treasures in heaven by and through living by faith and walking by the spirit asking God to help you. The earth and materials here in the end will not matter in the long haul of life itself compared to having a relationship with the Father, and the Son whom you are able to have fellowship with.

3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.

For the former old ways, old man/woman are dead - and your life is hid with Christ in God. You in your own personal life know you have God and Christ in your life or not - and because of this, those who seek out the things above, being risen with Christ through spiritual baptism of the Holy Spirit and of fire, promised by John the Baptist. You have a life that is hid with Christ in God. Being dead to the former ways, and being risen to the new spiritual ways looking towards the heavenly destination.

4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.

When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall you also appear with him in glory. (Speaking of the resurrection here? Speaking of the return? Speaking of spiritual regeneration of life, because he is the believers life?) Then you also appear with him in glory. Perhaps Christ manifests by and through spirit of Christ with-in when we allow him to move through us rather than what a choice may be by the flesh - may instead be done by the spirit which comes from the Father, through the Lord Jesus Christ.

5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:

Paul goes on to say since Christ is our life, and that we shall appear with hi in glory, Paul tell them to mortify or to kill - your members which are upon the earth: fornication, uncleanness, inordinate, affection, evil concupiscence, covetous, which is idolatry.

All of these things are harmful to you and your relationship with God - and all of our flesh is prone to fall into these catagories; it is good to pray and talk to the Father in heaven about any issues you may have, in the name of the Son and perhaps you will be helped in overcoming those temptations.

6 For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:

For those who have chosen to go the way of the world - these things bring forth the sake of the wrath of God which comes upon the children of disobedience. And thus death eventually comes about, because once sin is conceived it brings forth death. All of us have been disobedience in this life - and I believe that the wrath of God was actually going to fall out of the nation of Israel because of the tribes disobedience in even having killed the son of God.

7 In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.

Paul mentioned to the people at Colossae; that in some time they had also walked when they had lived among them.

8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.

Paul goes on to say now - Putt off all these - mortify them - anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.

Why? To put on Christ, to be risen in Christ, to be conformed to Christ, and live and walk in faith of the Messiah being with us, and to rid ourselves of the former old man/woman ways, that only lead to unfruitfulness.

9 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;

Paul goes on to say Lie not one to another, seeing that you have put off the old man with his deeds;

10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:

Having put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him - the New man is the new person in Christ who is born again, and adopted into the kingdom, who is renewed in knowledge - by learning about the Lord, in the new testament and in the Old Testament. The New man, can now function properly being connected with the Father through the Lord Jesus Christ, and a new relationship is established.

11 Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.

And all are equal in this state of faith - and Christ is all, and in all.

12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;

Paul encouraged those, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, in Colossae, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, long-suffering ---- Put these things on rather than the prior to be covetous, to be greed, unkind, unmerciful, pride, put away the earthly and put on Christ be risen in Christ put on the heavenly, in which all people are equal in Christ being justified by his work.

13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.

Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any; even as Christ forgave you, so also do you.

14 And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.

Above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness (maturity?).

15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.

And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you are called in one body, and be ye thankful.

16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

Continue to be enriched and encouraged to read about the Lord's Gospels, and the more you dwell on his word, allow Christ to dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in pslames and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

Paul says here, before going on to talk about wives and husbands - that whatsoever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

So much to consider when one reads the Bible; a reference Bible also helps in referencing and bring forth even more studies with-in a verse by verse study.

May you be encouraged to read and study.
