Yet we as Christians are under grace, not the Law. The Law is made up of 613 mitzvot...
The gospel or momentous news is we are no longer under the Law. Salvation has come to all through faith in Jesus Christ.
Still trying to pull people back under the Old Covenant.
Surely, you know that there is a difference between the Ten Commandments, written by the finger of God Himself, on tablets of stone to indicate their permanence, and kept within the Ark, along with the golden pot of manna and Aaron's rod that budded, and the law of Moses, written on a perishable scroll, and laid alongside of the Ark, but never put inside of it?
Surely you are aware that God's law is a part of both the Old and the New Covenant?
Looking forward through the mouth of the prophet Jeremiah:
Jer 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
Jer 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD:
Jer 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
Jer 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.
And again, looking backward through the writer of Hebrews:
Heb 8:8 For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:
Heb 8:9 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord.
Heb 8:10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:
Heb 8:11 And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.
Heb 8:12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.
We see that this new Covenant will be different in several aspects. One major difference is that God's Law (The Ten Commandments) wil no longer be written on tablets of stone....but on our very hearts. Far from being nailed to the cross...it is to be written within our minds, and written on our hearts.
Again I say....how could someone who is obviously intelligent and fairly well educated possibly fall for what is so obviously a scam?
The gospel, or the momentous news, is that God has paid the death penalty for our sins....and that is Grace.
And what is our response?
That same Jesus, Who hung on the cross for me, also said:
Joh 14:15
If ye love me, keep my commandments.
