Here we go again. (I guess the first two things you should sell are your phone and computer.)

If it is led by the Holy Spirit, and people have a perfect choice in the matter (as it is initiated by God within the heart and not by any outside source) it is an excellent thing...if it is mandated or forced, then it is legalism and also Communism...which has been determined to be faulty and incapable of delivering what it promises.

The early believers lived in houses where they assembled, and Paul had tools to make tents. Clearly you do not understand what "sell your possessions" means, and neither do you want to.

Already have. I sold my possessions and turned in my car, and moved to Colombia. Now, what are you going to do about what the Messiah teaches us to do?

I rent and do not have a car, I have a bicycle to get around the city, and very few necessities. If you never owned a house and no car why is this teaching so hard for you to agree on? Do you have much possessions in the place you rent that you refuse to sell? We all must reduce ourselves in different ways according to what we each have. I willingly left the United States living in a penthouse and driving an exotic car, to then move to Medellin to have no car and rent a place in the poorest areas of Medellin to sleep on a floor. This is the kind of "lowering ourselves" that the Messiah wants, in order that we may then be exalted in due time.

“And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing. Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,” (1 Corinthians 13:3–4) (KJV 1900)

Yet if you say you love, and give not, your love is not true,

But if anyone has the possessions of the world and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him?
    1 John 3:17

What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has belief but does not have works? Can that belief save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also belief by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. But someone will say, “You have belief and I have works.” Show me your belief apart from your works, and I will show you my belief by my works. You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder! Do you want to be shown, you foolish person, that belief apart from works is useless? Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered up his son Isaac on the altar? You see that belief was active along with his works, and belief was completed by his works; and the Scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”—and he was called a friend of God. You see that a person is justified by works and not by belief alone. And in the same way was not also Rahab the prostitute justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out by another way? For as the body apart from the airflow is dead, so also belief apart from works is dead.
    James 2:14-26

Oh, aren't we just so proud of being humble? LOL The Bible never said for us to sell our possessions. That is no more than the self-flatulating and crawling miles on their knees the Spanish pilgrims get into.

It does say it, you just don't want to do it, and so falsely say, "it doesn't say it",

So therefore every one of you who does not give up all that he himself possesses, is not able to be my disciple.
    Luke 14:33

Yeshuah answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
    Matthew 19:21

When Yeshuah heard his answer, he said, “There is still one thing you haven’t done. Sell your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
    Luke 18:22

Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will never fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys.
    Luke 12:33

Looking at the man, Yeshuah felt genuine love for him. “There is still one thing you haven’t done,” he told him. “Go and sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
    Mark 10:21

They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need.
    Acts 2:45

And a ruler asked him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit aeonial life?” And Yeshuah said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone. You know the commandments: ‘Do not commit adultery, Do not murder, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honor your father and mother.’” And he said, “All these I have kept from my youth.” When Yeshuah heard this, he said to him, “One thing you still lack. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” But when he heard these things, he became very sad, for he was extremely rich. Yeshuah, seeing that he had become sad, said, “How difficult it is for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God! For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.”
    Luke 18:18-25

1Co 13:3, And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

    1Ti 6:17, Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;
    1Ti 6:18, That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate;

What matters is not so much the outward behaviour but the inward reality of agape love in the heart.

As I said, the Bible does not tell us to sell all our stuff.

We are told to welcome strangers into the homes we possess. We are told to feed them and the poor with the food we own. We are told specific ways to manage the fields we own. We are told to provide an inheritance for our children. We are told to take care of our parents (Corbin). We are told to support the men who work in the temple (tithes).

We can't do any of that, and many other things we are told to do with what we own, if we have nothing to do it with. It is so foolish to try and make things certain individuals were instructed to do in specific cases be some kind of laws for all of us. (rich young ruler)

depends who "us" is I guess
we can't Quote Christ doing any of those things though I guess, can we.
I dunno Willie, pls contemplate how "the Bible does not tell us to sell all our stuff" sounds coming from an American if you will, and I mean note that we have an entire Book dedicated more or less to recounting the Acts of those who did so? The Church at Jerusalem no less?

I mean don't get me wrong But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag is in there too, but that comes later imo.

Sell your possessions does not mean get rid of your money. It means sell your everything you do not need, and keep only necessities, along with your money. And with that money, then can you give to those who need. You do not need possessions to be able to give, you need money, or also food, to be able to give. This is why the rich in the assemblies were told to be ready to share, not because they did not participate in the selling of possessions and properties everyone was commanded to do, but because they had much money left over after the sale of their possessions and properties to be able to share. Everyone is called to sell their possessions, because it relates to "lowering ourselves". The Messiah showed us the ultimate way to lower ourselves, by reducing ourselves to little, and being content with sufficiency, along with believing God to cover our necessities. You refuse to lower yourself in this way because you do not want to, and that is why you prevent yourself from entering the kingdom of God.

if 40% of Americans are one paycheck away from destitution imo most of the promises of Democracy are now a lie, but whatever they were doing in Acts was not political anyway, even if it was technically what we would now deem "Communism" I guess

In Acts the church practiced "Jerusalem Communism". Abraham Kuiper explains that Jerusalem "communism" says "what's mine is yours." Modern communism says "what's yours is mine."

So giving in love is good. But giving reluctantly and legalistically yields nothing.

“And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.” (1 Corinthians 13:3)

No one is obligating you to give. But if you do not give, you will be cut down, because every tree that does not bear good fruit, which is good works, will be cut down and thrown into the fire. So, consider these warnings, and choose to act wisely from your own volition. "Not everyone who calls me lord, lord will enter into the kingdom of heaven, except those who do the will of the Father". The will of the Father is that we be rich in good works.

if you put this more generally I could agree, but as it stands it becomes an accusation of someone whose works you are not really aware of imo, even if they have signed financial contracts with Rome.
