What he probably meant was that the penalties for violating the Ten commandments were nailed to the cross. And this is found in Scripture in Col 2:14 (NJKV) ...having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. The KJV says: Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
What this means is that just as in a court of law, charges are brought against a criminal (and they were handwritten in Roman courts) so in God's court of justice charges have been brought against every sinner (since all have sinned). All those charges - which rendered all of us guilty of violating the Ten Commandments -- were nailed to the cross when Christ was nailed to the cross and literally made "SIN" for us. But He paid the penalty for all our sins in full. That is definitely NOT a license to sin, but a command to "Go and sin no more!"
Here's the thing about that. Playing devil's advocate for a moment.
If all laws,ordinances, pertaining to right behavior and their penalties for disobedience, non-compliance, sins, were nailed to the cross and paid in full, because Jesus became sin and took the sins of the
whole world upon himself there, why do people have to believe in him doing that in order to be saved in their own right as sinners from what Jesus nailed to the cross over 2000+ years ago for the whole world?
Jesus paid the price, but I have to repent, believe, and then my sins will be forgiven?
When Jesus took the sins in,of, the whole world upon himself and became sin.
Because, as was said about the ten commands, they were nailed to the cross, the debt
paid in full. And Satan lost dominion over death.
Yet, I'm told I'm a sinner dead in her sins. Which means sin exists still. And holds a penalty a debt I will pay in Hell eternally if I don't accept Jesus paid the sin debt in full for the whole world, repent of my sins that exist because they're still in the world.
Failing to do so I die condemned in sin that still holds a penalty.
If Jesus paid sins debts in full by becoming sin, yet I don't believe that, sin still exists and is prosecuted by God who was Jesus on the cross.
