The first transgression of man was preceded by the first error of ministry.

Man added his own rule to Scripture: Neither shalt thou touch it.

Which led directly to transgressing the Scriptural commandment, because the devil was able to play on the additional rule.

If Eve has simply quoted God, then that would have been the end of the 'discussion'.

The most pernicious error in ministry is the same:

Sincere believers decide by conscience or tradition to practise a personal rule in life by faith with God, and then they go on to believe God would have it so for all believers; therefore, they begin to exhort and teach their personal rule and conscience to others as commandment of God.

And yet, there is no plain Scripture saying so.

Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

There are plenty of private interpretations of Scripture, that we can hold to as a personal rule in life, but we must not make ourselves lawgivers, by then preaching them as Scripture itself to others.

Example: Scripture calls fornication a sin. Some believers sincerely remain unmarried for the sake of their walk with God, and there is Scripture speaking of it. But to then preach it as equally necessary for all believers, as in forbidding to marry, is to teach a personal conviction and tradition for doctrine of God.

They did it in abundance in the day of Jesus, and rejected Him in order to keep their own traditions. And Christians do so today in abundance, and reject fellowship with other believers over their own private rules of life.

It's called carnal ordinances and commandments of men being taught for doctrine of Christ:

Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances, (Touch not; taste not; handle not; Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men? (Col 2)
