Luke 8:10 KJV
[10] And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand.
Isn’t Jesus saying here that it was given too them to understand the parables?
To whom was Jesus talking to?
His disciples, no?

Luk_8:10. The contrast between the disciples and others, as here put, is that in the case of the former the mysteries of the kingdom are given to be known, in that of the latter the mysteries are given, but only in parables, therefore so as to remain unknown.

Unto them that are without (ἐκείνοις τοῖς ἔξω)
The two latter words are peculiar to Mark. The phrase means those outside of our circle. Its sense is always determined by the contrast to it. Thus, 1Co_5:12, 1Co_5:13, it is non-Christians in contrast with me. Col_4:5, Christians contrasted with people of the world. Compare 1Th_4:12; 1Ti_3:7. Matthew (Mat_13:11), with less precision, uses simply ἐκείνοις (to them), the pronoun of remote reference. Luk_8:10, τοῖς λοιποῖς (to the rest).

και ελεγεν αυτοις υμιν δεδοται γνωναι το μυστηριον της βασιλειας του θεου εκεινοις δε τοις εξω εν παραβολαις τα παντα γινεται

And he was saying to them, To you the raz (secret) of the Malchut Hashem has been given. But to the outsiders, everything remains in meshalim,
Mar 4:12 In order that YIRU they may see and not have daas VSHIMU they may hear and not have binah, lest they should turn and they should receive refuah and selicha. (YESHAYAH 6:9-10, TARGUM HASHIVIM)

Isa 6:8 Then I heard the voice of Adonai saying: “Whom should I send, and who will go for Us?” So I said, “Hineni. Send me.”
Isa 6:9 Then He said: “Go! Tell this people: ‘Hear without understanding, and see without perceiving.’

Isa 6:10 Make the heart of this people fat, their ears heavy, and their eyes blind. Else they would see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and return, and be healed.”

he laid it upon: Heb. caused it to touch, Jer_1:9; Dan_10:16
thine iniquity: Isa_43:25, Isa_53:5, Isa_53:10; Mat_9:2; Heb_9:13-14; 1Jn_1:7, 1Jn_2:1-2

My concern is how we perceive parables where there is to us only one right application. For example those poor pathetic foolish virgins who brought no oil for their lamps. The wise snappy ones admired for what they have that the others lack(do not have). Reading it over and over about those who lack and those who have …it becomes “can you give me some oil, my lamp had gone out?” The answer from what is admired “nope, there is not enough for us and you.” :contemplate:

Ignoring if you do it unto one of the least of these, you do it as unto Me. Seems the wise missed His voice (Imo). The bridegroom comes. Knock, knock…no, go to those who sell. There is Jesus Christ in the temple running those who sell out saying His House has been turned into a den of thieves. “Let us wise virgins send those who lack and do not have, to a den of thieves!”

He takes the foolish to confound the wise. What is “ he takes” in the bridegroom comes? Or Christ standing up to say “wake up you who sleep…” he doesn’t say “nope, there is not enough for me and you.” Instead “wake up you who sleep (ten virgins) I will give you Light.” See, a parable to condemn. We say to condemn the foolish. (Who lack) Is that so, or to condemn the wise (who have but won’t give, even when giving to the poor is as ‘to give’ to the bridegroom: I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was naked and you wouldn’t clothe me.)…see how there are not many wise, not many noble among you?
Sister, if the wise missed His voice, then how and why were they able to go into the wedding feast, while the unwise were left outside in darkness? This parable just is not faulting the wise virgins. And that is not talking about what the world considers wise....the world considers the wisdom of the kingdom of heaven to be foolishness. Why are people always equating warning and admonition with condemnation? That would mean Jesus is everywhere condemning folks when the bible says He came not to condemn but to save. We need to be warned, exhorted, admonished at times, as well as encouraged and comforted etc......it is part of how the Lord shepherds our soul and saves us. His rod and His staff comfort us for that reason.... He is faithfully on our cases prodding and driving us along and keeping us on the path so that we don't get lost and left behind. It's not going to be a happy ending for everyone, sadly. A fact of life that Jesus is attempting to give us fair warning about. This is why we are to work out our salvation with fear and trembling. Those words and parables were to the Jew first....how many of them followed the Bridegroom into the wedding (united with Jesus through the gospel) when He came the first time? Only a remnant out of all Israel. These things happened unto them for our ensamples.

Many can't seem to yet bear the things in scripture that are not as easy to digest as milk. Wounded souls often have a more difficult time accepting strong meat....this is why the word says to let the lame be healed, lest they be turned out of the way. What isn't wise is to be trying to take the saltiness out of the salt....the saltiness is the salt's power and preserving/keeping property. We should just let the words of Jesus do its job, rather than trying to disarm the sword of the spirit.

Here we see Jesus establishing a higher order...a kingdom order, based on spiritual life. Outside that order people can still obey the commandments as always...like loving our neighbour...even our enemies.

What can't be done outside the holiness of the kingdom order is to love, to walk, to live as Jesus did on earth.

So then to whom much is given more is required. There is a high calling...a higher standard...and a stricter judgment for believers who claim to walk in the higher order.

But there is a heavy penalty for judging people outside that order as if they, and not us, were responsible for fulfilling the commandments of Christ.

Shalom

Can you tell me why if I go into a church and the study is on the ten virgins. If I were to share any of the above about sharing or giving…I would be looked upon as backwards? Told that is not what it means, looked upon as an absurdity for even suggesting such a thing, but how the parable speaks of salvation. (Saving Grace how sweet the sound?)
No idea what churches call you sister. I'm not calling you anything. There are sweet sounds as well as savoury and even bitter in the word of God. The parables both warn and instruct the people of God. The Jews first and now the church.

Care to elaborate on this, navigating with scripture references brother?
Thanks

Are all believers called to this higher walk, or only some?
Only those who are born of the Spirit are called into that walk....since they are now spiritually aware (IF they have been truly born of the Spirit) and have been PARTIALLY equipped to do so. I say partially, because we need to go to God for the full measure of grace to walk as Jesus walked.

And this is a test....a wilderness trial to see who will be honest and who is willing to lie and be hypocritical. And who will turn to God in an honest repentance and surrender.

So many fail this test.

Then there are those who "pretend" they have been born again, in thinking they NEED to claim that to be saved. Poor people. By claiming a standard that requires a harder judgment, they are just making things hard for themselves...since they are not equipped to run the race they claim to be in. These will be judged very severely and cast away on judgment day...as thieves and robbers.

Jesus is coming as a thief to these....and they are many.

I am trying to warn my fellow believers about the coming terror of the Lord....but as you can see, very few are listening. Their blood be on the own heads.

Peace.

Good question. I’ve had the same question about The Ark that Noah built. Where only eight souls were saved. Water baptism? The question I have …maybe a pointless question but why in the New Testament it says that if the bowels of mercy be shut up then the Love of God is not in it. Then the Ark (New Testament) which is Christ. Which doesn’t shut up the bowels of mercy to those without, saving more than eight.

Why are people always equating warning and admonition with condemnation? That would mean Jesus is everywhere condemning folks when the bible says He came not to condemn but to save.

Another good point. He came not to condemn but to save.

Yes, His rod and His staff comfort us. Not disagreeing.

The first time only a remnant were saved. Similar to only eight shut up in the Ark were saved? But what of
Romans 11:26-30 And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: [27] For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins. [28] As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers' sakes. [29] For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance. [30] For as you in times past have not believed God, yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief:
What is to obtain mercy through another’s unbelief? What about that one who is in unbelief? Yet through it another obtains mercy? Isn’t that odd? How can through their blindness, you have received sight? That all men will give thanks unto God, to the Jews first, also to the Gentiles.

Many can't seem to yet bear the things in scripture that are not as easy to digest as milk. Wounded souls often have a more difficult time accepting strong meat....this is why the word says to let the lame be healed, lest they be turned out of the way.

We should just let the words of Jesus do its job, rather than trying to disarm the sword of the spirit.
1 Peter 4:1-2 Forasmuch then as Christ has suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; [2] That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.

I’m not trying to disarm that Christ has suffered for us …I’m trying to remember it, to burn it into my mind as to not forget what Love He has for those whom did not Love Him first, but He first Loved them. You mentioned warning others. I read an article last night about a step father sexually abusing his step son for years, when he did this act he recited bible verses to the son telling him the reason this was happening was because the son had a devil in him. We better wake up to what is being taught. What comes out from the literal interpretations we push. Yes. Anyone can quote scripture. When I see the warning of God ..I see Paul showing the example where he stood in the midst of those calling him a reprobate and weak …he provokes them unto love …warning them …to do no wrong, to do no evil upon their brothers whom they say are weak. They are judging Paul and Paul is extending to them an opportunity of obedience unto righteousness that they be made perfect, even saying he would be weak that they be made strong, encouraged comforted, them perfected …to be this is an example of admonishment with active voice…which they wanted proof of Christ speaking in Paul. You think I hate admonishment. I love Pauls admonishment there (in Christ) of their attacking him and his warning that they have not yet been made perfect in Love. (Otherwise why is he saying I hope in your being perfected in Love?) No, I don’t hate that admonishment or correction or warning. I don’t want to disarm it. I want to model it. I truly do. I want to be persuaded of better things of you. To hold fast to Faith and enter in where Christ suffered for us that we might be made like unto Him. Warnings…I think about the frustration of Paul there and it confuses me about as much as the crucifixion..how Paul…how Christ…suffered such a contradiction of sinners warning and and those warnings ignored by the very ones claiming to be giving (dishing out) the warnings. How did Christ being crucified by all the religious, keep His tongue and not curse them and damn them all to Hell for their ignorance?

Sure.

1. We are not to compare our walk with that of another...even WITHIN the faith.

[22] Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me.

Here we see that we are not to use our own reasoning or try making blankets rules about the servant of another.

2. We are not to judge those outside the faith

1 Cor. 5:13 “But them that are without God judgeth".

God will have mercy on whoever He wills. And we are not to judge from ourselves. Judge not lest you be judged.

Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

Proverbs 3:5
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.

NIV. "Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?

These the references you would concur?

There is a protocol (is that the right word?) and nothing outside of it gets in. To be honest it is the very thing that makes me doubt and wonder if God is fake. A fairy tale. I hear a warning in the parables too. Mostly a warning to not be high minded and neglectful of He came not to condemn but to save what is (was)lost.

God is no "fake" and you know it-maybe you are referring to "fake-pseudo believers, having a form of godliness, denying it's power?"
Maybe you are going through trying times, wondering where God is IN your circumstances?

So did the wise virgins buy their oil?
The wise virgins went back to God to BUY the oil that cost everything...the full measure of grace.

each time the oil leaks out of our lamps...we are responsible to go back and get it filled. Each time is like receiving a new talent to make eternal fruit with.

Why did the unwise virgins trim their lamps if they knew there was no oil in them?
They didn't realize deeply enough that the lamp was supposed to give light. They thought HAVING the lamp was all that was required to be "saved." It is true that to have a lamp means we are not gong to be judged with the world. But it is still a terrible thing to be judged unworthy by God.

Yeah, I can see how John 3:3-11 might give someone that impression. Fear will do that to you. Me, I don't even know what being "born again" REALLY means - and when we tried to discuss it, the whole thread got turned into a damn goat rodeo.

All right. All these parables about the "Kingdom of God". What do you see the Kingdom of God as?
