Revelation 21:4-5 KJV
And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. [5] And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.
God did say the former things are passed away. He also said that he will make all things new. That is, old things are made new. Not replaced. So for lack of a better term, for now I like the refurbished terminology.
I really have a hard time believing that folks believe this earth will disappear and God is going to start from scratch. Joel doesn't teach that. Neither dis Peter or John.
The problem with man is he tries to change the meaning of a word or phrase to suit his beliefs, instead of searching the whole Bible, how else God uses the particular word or phrase elsewhere in Scriptures.
And, most importantly, His word is to be obeyed!
The word “make” is validated only when we understand the meaning of the word “create” in Genesis 1:1 as we read: “In the beginning, God “created” the heaven and the earth.” The Bible could have read, “In the beginning, God “made” the heaven and the earth,” but it didn’t, the words “made” or “create” are interchangeable.. And, therefore, the meaning of Genesis 1:1 will NOT have changed!
So, when God says, “the former things are passed away, and behold, I make all things new,” He meant it literally. In fact, He brings home the point and tells John Write: for these words are true and faithful.
For example, let’s say you have a daughter 12 or 13 years old and asks you for a new bike because hers’ is sitting in the garage old and run down. Will you take that bike, refurbish it to look like new and give it to her? What do you suppose she will say or think?
Likewise, God will not allow His children to live in this present corrupt earth, but will build a better world, where He will wipe away all tears from their eyes, no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying,, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
Glory, alleluia what an awesome God we serve!
