Much attention has been given to Covid-19, the pandemic now running amok, dominating today's headlines. Some people fear it, some deny it is anything at all, some have made it simply a political maneuver to thwart certain political leanings, some have made it an attempt to rob us of our freedoms.

This is true both inside and outside the church. But there are signs that a silent and far deadlier pandemic is spreading among us. It is a spirit of anger, fear and divisiveness. I understand such emotions in the world. We live in a pressure cooker of uncertainty. That those emotions are exponentially on the rise is totally understandable, no matter what anyone believes.

But what about the church? Has our God not told us beforehand that these things must come to pass? Has He not assured us that whatever happens, He still uses it for His good? Has He not promised to keep us from the evil and exhorted us to not let our hearts be troubled? Indeed He has.

But that is not what we see, is it? The angst we see in the world is mirrored in God's own house. Is this not the truth? The same fear, the anger, the divisiveness, the uncertainty, none of it has spared the church. Brothers have ended up on both sides of every issue. Masks vs. no masks. Socialism vs. Fascism. Law and order versus movements like BLM. Democrats versus Republicans. Conspiracy theories versus news so slanted in one direction or another that many no longer can have assurance that any of it is really the truth.

Should this not concern us greatly? We see believers far more involved in their "cause" rather than the cause of Christ. So, what is this pandemic, this unseen destroyer, of which I speak? It is letting the spirit of the world, which has long lied dormant in the church, come alive as evil has exposed itself.

Saints, I pray you heed the words of your God. Has has not given us ample warning that this day would arrive? He has told us that we are not of this world, that we are to walk in the world, but that we are not to be OF it.

He has instructed us that we are to set our affections on things above, not on things of the earth. He has warned us that to be earthly minded is death. And He has clearly told us that in the final days before His return, evil men will wax worse and worse. And because evil will abound, just as we are now beginning to see, the love..... the AGAPE love.....of many (yes, He is specifically talking about believers) will wax cold.

And is this not what we see everywhere? This forum is no exception. Brothers disagree not with patience but to the point love is seen only in the rear view mirror. The world looks on and mocks us, and they have a perfect right to do so. They see us as hypocrites, with no more peace than they themselves possess. Although we will never admit it, hatred and divisiveness have replaced civility and longsuffering, and guys, these things should not be so.

Do we pray for those who are on the opposite side of the fence? Do our hearts break if we see them as blinded to 'our' truth? Do we return good for evil? Is our 'neighbor' only those ho agree with us? Thank God He has awakened some of His children, but by and large, far too many are still asleep to the truth and are ignorant of the devices of satan he is using in these final hours.

Time is running out. The battle lines we have chosen are only important if they are God's as well, not man's. All the many things in the world that multitudes of Christians have fixated on are simply a smokescreen from enemy of our souls. They have one purpose, to rob us of our peace offered us by Jesus.

Like the snakes that bit the children of Israel, the evils now beginning to manifest themselves in the world will only be overcome by re-focusing on our full surrender and trust in Jesus, our brazen serpent lifted up to deliver us from the evil in the world. Our gaze must get off US and fall solely on HIM.

This spiritual pandemic is far worse than any problem we see in the world. Satan is after our gaze. He cares not if you are democrat or republican, a masker or one refuse to be masked. No matter which side you choose, what issue you see as important, if it is not Christ Himself, then none of it matters. It is all going to burn.

Make no mistake, saints. Danger is growing and cannot be overstated. What we are seeing is a life and death struggle between good and evil, and all evil must go in our lives, even the smallest ones hidden in our hearts. The enemy is coming in like a flood, of that we can be certain, but praise God, our Father has assured us that when we see this happening, God WILL raise up a standard against Him, a place of refuge where even the weakest child of God will find safety and victory over the world, the flesh and the devil.

All He asks is that our gaze be turned to Him, believing that He can,.... no.... He WILL deliver us from evil. Yes, we have been forgiven, and thank God for that. But even now, God is awakening His own to how to walk in victory as overcomers of anything satan can throw use to throw at us....... and yes, even the "old" us!

Amen, Lord Jesus. Let it be so.

We are in the midst of spiritual warfare.
Grab your armour and be prepared!

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

AMEN

Hi Gideon,
That was one of the few logical and reasonable thought out post I have read in some time. Refreshing.
If only all Christians could read this and take it to heart.
It is kind of disheartening when speaking to another Christian who is allowing such fear from the things we were promised would come upon us to seem to rule their lives. And those who are surprised when Jesus told us to NOT be surprised...
Good post, thanks :)

Totally agree.

We absolutely need to stay focused on "who" we really are (in Christ) so as not to live in fear. Also essential to remind ourselves that as Christ followers we should be heaven minded .... we are just passing through, as this earth is NOT our forever home.

He has told us that we are not of this world, that we are to walk in the world, but that we are not to be OF it.
Very true. But God has also given two sets of instructions to His people which need to be implemented:

1. WE ARE TO CAST OFF THE WORKS OF DARKNESS: The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. (Rom 13:12) As the context shows, this means make no provision for the flesh.

2. WE ARE TO REPROVE THE WORKERS OF DARKNESS: And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. (Eph 5:11)

And it is in the second set of instructions that many Christians are willing to look the other way. Indeed, some Christians are presently siding with the workers of darkness, and cheering them on.

The enemies of America and the so-called "free world" have been plotting its destruction for a long time. But in the year 2020 we have seen the actual implementation of that destruction through (a) a coup d'etat against a legally elected President, followed by (b) a bogus pandemic to destroy lives, economies, and freedoms, followed by (c) the destruction of American cities by Fascist and Marxist rioters, followed by (d) the departure of hundreds of thousands of police officers who have been thoroughly undermined, followed by (e) the outright theft of an election by unscrupulous people who hate the Constitution and the freedoms of America, and hate Donald Trump because he was willing to take on the Swamp.

While Christians are not to be fearful of evildoers, Christians have every right to to righteously indignant and angry at what the evildoers are trying to do. It is the evildoers who are sowing division.
And Christians also have a moral and civic responsibility to strongly reprove the workers of darkness.

As one pastor has said recently, for Christians to simply say "God is in control" and ignore the evil that has come upon America (and the free world) is in fact irresponsible. God is indeed sovereign, but He has told His people to reprove the works (and workers) of darkness. And when Christ comes to earth the second time, He will come with flaming fire to take vengeance upon His enemies and the enemies of His people.

Amen! 'Gideon's Trumpet' [only peripherally related to the book by that name] is blowing again with the more certain sound from God.

"And the angel which I saw stand upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his hand to heaven,
And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer:" Rev 10-5-6

While many will undoubtedly read the above words relating them to an end of the world of all men together, we should consider it as it relates to me alone... or to you alone. For each of us time is running out. We are approaching the end of our course.

Our "angel" or messenger in this thread is one Gideon who has heard from God and is speaking to each of us who still has time.
Who is concerned about what person will apparently be in charge in the White House in Washington during the next four years? Hmmm, do we even know who is in charge of our hearts today?

"Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof." Matt 6:34

And what is it that is going to burn?

"Therefore because the king's commandment was urgent, and the furnace exceeding hot, the flame of the fire slew those men that took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego" Dan 3:22

And what is it that is not going to burn?

"And the princes, governors, and captains, and the king's counsellors, being gathered together, saw these men, upon whose bodies the fire had no power, nor was an hair of their head singed, neither were their coats changed, nor the smell of fire had passed on them." Dan 3:27

"And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.
And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt." Exodus 3:2-3

"I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:" Matt 3:11

Are we now in the fire? Are we now singed or smelling of fire or burned up? Are we now not consumed? If not, why not?

"For our God is a consuming fire." Heb 12:29

Amen Brother! This is exactly how I feel about it all. Just keeping my eyes on Him and putting ALL my faith and trust in Him and His promises. And believe it or not people get angry with me because I won't fear it. Went into Walmart back in April...as people passed by me I would say...the devil is a liar....the devil is a Liar...THE DEVIL IS A LIAR!
Thank goodness I am 61 and gray haired...they just looked at me like...poor old lady...suffering dementia...haha...one of the benefits of getting old is you can almost say or do anything you want in public and people will have compassion for you.:D

Let it be so.

blessings,

Gideon

That being said, Ive been one of them. Anxiety has always been an issue, but the divisive spirit, yes. It is so rampant. BUT GOD. Amen. No matter what, He reigns!!!!

... the anger, the divisiveness, the uncertainty, none of it has spared the church. Brothers have ended up on both sides of every issue. Masks vs. no masks. Socialism vs. Fascism. Law and order versus movements like BLM. Democrats versus Republicans. Conspiracy theories versus news so slanted in one direction or another that many no longer can have assurance that any of it is really the truth. ...

I would propose mankind has struggled with "TRUTH" starting with the serpent in the Garden of Eden. And it wasn't any different when Jesus walked the face of the earth when HE Challenged and Confronted the hypocrites just as WE must Challenge and Confront the hypocrites both in Church and in Society. -- And although the church is Judged individually (Annias and Sapphira), we can only criticize the world's LIES, but not the individual LIARS.

But to assert that we must withdraw into a cocoon of "JESUS" is FALSE. -- Jesus NEVER withdrew into a cocoon of "GOD", but instead pursued the Kingdom of Heaven to be present ON EARTH, to the point of overthrowing the money changers outside the Temple, and refusing to participate in HIS interrogation and abuse by the Romans. And in HIS dying breath, he shunned the first thief, but ushered the second thief; and asked John to care for his mother.

And so we ardently participate, -- not cowardly alleviate.

Equally when Peter reacted in an emotional way to those who came to arrest Jesus, he said ‘ enough ‘ !
I was reflecting on something the other day, about how we kick against one another just because different things are laid on our hearts. Many dispel what others say because it doesn’t align with what they have convictions about, when in essence they could be part of the same puzzle and picture, but just another aspect.

EXCELLENT OBSERVATION, -- and so we work while it day, because when night comes no man can work, both in the physical and spiritual sense. But to simply CEASE PARTICIPATION is not a "solution". We MUST "Knock" so that it will be "Opened"; "Ask" that we may "Receive"; and "Seek" that we may "Find". And if we abdicate our WORKS, then we eradicate our FAITH. :)

With VERY Best Regards,

Participation can take many forms Bobbyjo. Peter followed his instincts and got it wrong, Jesus followed his convictions and acted. We can be called to participate in different ways, but we can also fall into the trap of following our instincts, which may not be right.
Works can take many forms , praying is ‘ work ‘ for example. Now it may look or seem as if a Christian is doing nothing because they are not shouting as loud as others, or not acting in the same way within the currant situation. It doesn’t mean they are not participating or abdicating their Works. Their Works are between them and The Lord. How can anyone of us judge another on the basis of one aspect of a different approach to what is going on right now.
In a war, which we are in, people have different roles, different responsibilities. I think of all the people that ‘ served in the Second World War, some were in direct combat, some were supporting them from a distance by making weapons, some worked the farms to provide food , some supported the wounded, some put out fires when the bombs came ect ect ( pretty sure there are all kinds of analogies to the spiritual battle there, and all require action, work, conviction ect. )
I have to go to work , the physical kind !!! Lol
