Earth's day length shortened by Japan earthquake

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2011/03/13/scitech/main20042590.shtml

(Space.com) The massive earthquake that struck northeast Japan Friday (March 11) has shortened the length Earth's day by a fraction and shifted how the planet's mass is distributed.

Watching the tsunami videos is truly astounding! I can't help but ponder the Genesis Flood.

The Genesis Flood resulted from what took place during creation week, Gen 1:6-8

And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.
And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so. And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.

At the time of the flood we are told, Gen.7:11-12

In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened. And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights.

The heaven, whose windows were opened was the heaven of the second day and the amount of water above that heaven was enough to cover the earth to fifteen cubits and cover the highest mountains of that time.

By the way, it did not rain until the time of the flood because the earth was watered by a mist that went up from the ground, Gen. 2:6.

God Bless you. Charlie.

While its true Calif. will have a large quake the most dreaded and dangerous fault zone in the United States is in the middle of the U.S.
The New Madrid fault Zone. mainly because it goes through some of the most populated areas in America.

The zone had four of the largest North American earthquakes in recorded history, with moment magnitudes estimated to be as large as 8.0, all occurring within a three-month period between December 1811 and February 1812. Many of the published accounts describe the cumulative effects of all the earthquakes (known as the New Madrid Sequence); thus finding the individual effects of each quake can be difficult. Magnitude estimates and epicenters are based on interpretations of historical accounts and may vary.

1812
Some sections of the Mississippi River appeared to run backward for a short time.[sup][3][/sup] Sand blows were common throughout the area, and can still be seen from the air in cultivated fields. The shockwaves propagated efficiently through midwestern bedrock, with residents as far away as Pittsburgh and Norfolk awakened by intense shaking. Church bells were reported to ring as far as Boston, Massachusetts and York, Ontario (now Toronto), and sidewalks were reported to have been cracked and broken in Washington, D.C.[sup][6][/sup] There were also reports of toppled chimneys in Maine.[sup][citation needed][/sup]

Eliza Bryan in New Madrid, Territory of Missouri, wrote the following eyewitness account in March, 1812.

On the 16th of December, 1811, about two o'clock, a.m., we were visited by a violent shock of an earthquake, accompanied by a very awful noise resembling loud but distant thunder, but more hoarse and vibrating, which was followed in a few minutes by the complete saturation of the atmosphere, with sulphurious vapor, causing total darkness.
The screams of the affrighted inhabitants running to and fro, not knowing where to go, or what to do —the cries of the fowls and beasts of every species —the cracking of trees falling, and the roaring of the Mississippi — the current of which was retrograde for a few minutes, owing as is supposed, to an irruption in its bed — formed a scene truly horrible.

The Shaker diarist Samuel Swan McClelland described the effects of the earthquake on the Shaker settlement at West Union (Busro), Indiana, where the earthquakes contributed to the temporary abandonment of the westernmost Shaker community.

Eyewitness account

[sup]John Bradbury, a Fellow of the Linnean Society, was on the Mississippi on the night of December 15, 1811, and describes the tremors in great detail in his Travels in the Interior of America in the Years 1809, 1810 and 1811, published in 1817. The key text is found between page 199 and page 207.[/sup][sup][11][/sup]

[sup]After supper. we went to sleep as usual: about ten o'clock, and in the night I was awakened by the most tremendous noise, accompanied by an agitation of the boat so violent, that it appeared in danger of upsetting...I could distinctly see the river as if agitated by a storm; and although the noise was inconceivably loud and terrific, I could distinctly hear the crash of falling trees, and the screaming of the wild fowl on the river, but found that the boat was still safe at her moorings...[/sup]

[sup]By the time we could get to our fire. which was on a large flag, in the stern of the boat, the shock had ceased; but immediately the perpendicular banks, both above and below us, began to fall into the river in such vast masses, as to nearly sink our boat by the swell they occasioned . . . At day-light we had counted twenty-seven shocks [/sup]

Earthquakes that occur in the New Madrid Seismic Zone potentially threaten parts of seven American states: Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee and Mississippi including cities like Mempis, Chicgo, St Louis, Nashville

I was watching some short program on the Weather Channel a few months ago. The interviewer was speaking to a guy from the National Geological Survey group, or some offical governmental organization of that nature.

The interviewer asked the 'expert' why there was a statistical increase (numbers, not supposition) in the amount and ferocity of earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and violent storms of all sorts.

Global warming.

That's the 'official' answer.
Of course, no mention was made of the fact that a lot of the data to support the global warming theory is bogus. Did somebody forget about that?

Is it global warming or is it something else? I suppose God could use global warming as a tool to perform His purposes. Why not? What irks me is that the 'expert' deftly and adroitly avoided any sort of metaphysical principle in the matter.

Perhaps we should pick this thread up again after the amount of activity, some of it very strange, ie Virginia? How are we to know if these are clear end time signs?

We can't. We are prisoners of the past and present. We can only truly know right from wrong and truthfrom fiction in hindsight.
