Is masturbation a sin or is where our mind lead us?

My belief is no masturbation isn't sin because I haven't seen anywhere in the bible saying a man couldn't go into his own bathroom to rub off 5 knuckle baby shooter or in other since a women can't enjoy her self. I believe where or mind lead us is a sin because one usely have to be lusting first. So, question is really is masturbation a sin?

The answer is yes.

you are correct that the desire to fulfill the flesh leads to it. Most commentaries I've read focus on a plethora of NT verses as well as OT verses that condemn "lustful thoughts". Those commentaries often go to the OT and bring up Gen 38:9, which isn't talking about masturbation. In this account, a man (Onan) went to his deceased brother's wife, copulated, but "spilled his seed" on the ground. In other words, he had sex, but didn't want to have children with her. By the way, God killed him for that. However, this wasn't "masturbation".

We do find a verse directly talking about this subject, however, in Lev 15:16-17. In short, if you do it, take a shower, wash your clothes, clean it up and you are unclean for the rest of the day.

...I used to have some bad habits when I was a young Christian and I could not find anything in the bible that related to it. Until the Lord lit up some verses that really spoke to me.

2 Peter 2:19 (GNT)
19 They promise them freedom while they themselves are slaves of destructive habits—for we are slaves of anything that has conquered us.

What is a slave? A slave is someone who has a master...

1 Corinthians 6
19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.

This is not something that anyone else can point out to you... but something that the Holy Spirit reveals as you continue on your walk with God. [a personal revelation] because everyone is at different places in their walk. God may not convict you in this area until later on in your walk as part of his sanctifying process in you or he may not need to.

Blessings!

masturbation isnt specifically mentioned in the scriptures, but there are some 'principles' that help us to see that it is wrong.
Colossians 3:5 it will be very hard to kill an immoral desire if you keep stimulating it.

masturbation is a very selfish thing, it breeds a completely self centered view of sex rather then something to be given, it becomes something to be taken... not a good attitude to have.

Masturbation is a product of living in the flesh... Here a few scriptures....

Romans 8:13
For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

Romans 13:14
But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

2 Corinthians 7:1
Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

Galatians 5:16
This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

Galatians 5:24
And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

I liken the flesh to a horrible monster that will consume and destroy our lives quicker than anything. It is most important for those who have problem...

1. Put away all pornography.
2. Have good things in the ears... I listen to the BBNRadio.org all the time.
3. Fast and pray! Ask God's help.
4. Find a good church for fellowship

I once had a psychology proffessor tell us "there is absolutely nothing wrong with masturbation, unless you hurt yourself or are missing class" everyone laughed. I couldn't believe he said that but he had a valid point about hurting ones self. I have heard that verse about becoming unclean and removing yourself from the camp for the night. It doesn't seem like it is the end of the world in God's eyes generally punishments tend to be just, for example if you masturbate a lot and get a sore wrist and feel shame it is probably better than having way too much sex and getting aids and dying. I went to a christian school and they made sex sound like the dirtiest most repulsive act any one can do. I don't think they did a very good job teaching us about it, but the public schools were teaching kids about gayness in grade 6.

Deuteronomy 23:10,11 "If there bee among you any man that is not cleane, by reason of uncleannesse that chanceth him by night, then shall hee goe abroad out of the camp, hee shall not come within the campe. But it shall be when evening cometh on he shall wash himself with water and when the sunne is downe, he shall come into the camp again."

I first started surfing the Internet with my AOL account in the mid 90's. As I was watching TV it seemed the Spirit of God led me to the following story.

There was a successful contractor in North Carolina who one day received in his mailbox an AOL disk with the words "Free 90 days." Well, he got him an account and began his adventure in the WWW. Well, people started sharing pornography with him. He eventually found himself sharing pictures with underage girls and next thing you know he shared one with an FBI agent. Well, he was busted, and they hauled away his computer. At his trial he received like five years prison time. In that interview he said you know those free 90 days caused me to loose my business, wife, house, and kids.

There may be things that come along in life that make us feel unclean until 'evening cometh'... Lets make sure that is the extent of it! :)

Yeah that is a tough one Rocky, I think it is borderline demonic/evil to be turned on by a child in that way, If someone is at that point in their life they are probably not listening to God at all. Seems like a pretty negative result of something.

Well, I'm going to kind of buck the norm here and say a few things...

First, it is a sin, and is mentioned in the Bible. I did give verses as being Lev 15:16-17. Truth is, this verse is talking about any act of copulation, so it isn't masturbation itself, but it is included.

Second, setting aside the unfortunate horror stories like the one Rockytopva told, it doesn't usually lead to a terrible and traumatic life experience. Now I put in bold that it is a sin, so please don't think I'm defending it.

However, I do believe that this act which the science community believes the overwhelming population has at one time or another (and would probably say that most do so on a regular basis, whatever that may be) is covered by the blood of Christ, as is all fleshly sins are.

I go back to the verse I've brought up before when it seems like I'm defending such (and I'm not) which is 1 Cor 6:12. It says that all things are lawful (to them that are in Christ). However, not all things are a good idea, and we certainly shouldn't be brought under their power.

So is this a sin? Absolutely! However no one should be given the idea that it is damning and destructive to their salvation, UNLESS its something that is out of control and is taking over their lives.

Thats a valid point FHII, if your saying a sin though, is getting an erection or is an aroused woman sinning as well ? I always wonder about if God created our bodies to work this way how can it be so wrong. I'm not disagreeing with you I think it is a good debate. Maybe things were different before Adam and Eve sinned ?

I don't think God created our bodies like that. I think when Adam and Eve sinned, it allowed the devil to created in the world......
