Don't hear much about hell these days.
Very few preachers mention it.
I guess they feel the need to stay "politicly correct".

Maybe because they finally understood that 'hell' preaching is not the Gospel because gospel means "Good News". :p

Thousand have been "scared into Christianity" by hell preaching...we had the open air preachers like Wesley and WhitCliff.
But once the hype is over their "conversion" didn't last.
Look back at all the "great revivals" ....fear and emotions played a strong part in it.

What 'man' really wants a Bride that only says "I love You" because she is terrified of Him and afraid of being cast into the oven if she doesn't!!!

If that is the God you believe in and worship?!! I don't.
Are you like the many, only "with Him" and serve Him, because of your fear of hell!!!!

I have no fear of hell at all.
I believe it exists, but I don't fear it one bit.

I met a guy once who would drive every sunday
over 200 miles to go to church.
I questioned him about it because in winter time
he was faced with snow, ice etc.

He said: "I have to do this because I don't want to go to hell"
Well, that's what you are taking about, scaring people into the church is not my game.

So, if you feel ( as in your other post, that hell needs promoting)
What first led you to the Lord ?
Why did you get saved? Truth now.

I never said it needs promoting.
Salvation needs to be promoted.

I got saved in 1980 because I was at the end of my rope.
And so was my wife. To much to mention about what we were involved in.
But it was not pretty.

Not saved because I thought I would go to hell.

One guy gave me his testimony about what the Lord had done in his life.
Long story.

Jesus saved me from a lot of garbage, to much to mention here,
among other things the biker's lifestyle was involved.

You would not want to hang around with us before 1980.

ergo you have no "hope of salvation" at all, at least in a sense, right.
you maybe got converted, got religion, etc, and i'm not meaning to denigrate these
you obviously even got "saved" in a sense too, but see you are using the word "saved" in a diff sense right

Lovely. Good word. :)

I started seeking the Lord because I was only 22, already had two lovely kids.
And I was contemplating leaving my husband.
He had started drinking much more..and came home drunk a lot.
That was not the life I had signed up for.
( I had already left once before)

My hunger started for God then. I remember washing out diapers at the sink and saying out loud to God.
"Well if this is it, and if this is my life...I don't want to die at the end of it without You. Please show me that You are real and that I will end up with You"

My seeking was "for Him" not some fear of hell.
If there was any fear, it was the fear that God wasn't real...and that we are nothing more than hamsters on a wheel.

As I say..the whole thought pattern that hell is part of the Good News is totally twisted. Then foundation of our relationship with God is on a shaky platform if He is not the powerful drawing and longing of our heart.

Can't have an empty building now can we, empty coffers too, lol. I think some of these pastors, Church leaders really should depend on God a bit more to bless their body and, if He deems the Church is truly preaching/teaching the true and complete Gospel...God will surely bless them and grow them!

Sounds about familiar.
Christ changed my life around.

No I didn't get religion.
You are wrong.

Haha!! I remember when I finally SAW that amazing love of God...and what He did in Sending Jesus.

I rushed into the kitchen and I said to my husband.
" I've got it!"
He said.." You've got what?"
I said" I don't know, but I can see it now..."

He said..." You can see what."
Then I said..." I don't know, but I can see the light! I can see it all now, God sent Jesus to bridge the great gap between us and God"

Six weeks later he too gave his life to the Lord.
He did ask the Pastor from the Mission hall.
"Is it still okay if I have a pint now and again? And is it okay if I still play the horses...if I give some to your church?" :D

Obviously the old pastor said No. And at that time in Dave's life it would have been fatal.
Obviously he never gambled again on cards or horses...but occasionally he will take a glass of wine if we are out for a meal with someone. :)

ya, you don't strike me as religious, but i wonder your def of "saved," mostly.
is it possible for you to get saved again iow
or does your def of saved involve some expectations about an "afterlife," stuff like that

we haven't really interacted much is why i'm asking; not so much to debate the beliefs

ah, my apologies, i'm more interested in your definition of the term for future ref.
i'm just kinda surprised about your pov on hell there, etc.
Googling gave me 8 scriptures.
You should try it.
Gehenna is on Erets, Triumph; where do you imagine that this "hell" is?
i guess this reads like a leading Q or whatever, but opinions and defs vary for even this, see.
i have "Christians" in other threads telling me hell is on earth too, etc, so pls understand.

in your opinion is "hell" a place of punishment in the "afterlife" that ppl who do not go to heaven goto, or not, basically. ty
