PART I
The book of Daniel has three major portions in chapters 7, 8, and 11 (Dan 7:8;19-25; 8:3-25; 11:21-45 KJV) devoted to the Little Horn, which means that he is a very significant figure in Bible prophecy. He is none other than the Antichrist (the Beast, the Man of Sin, the Son of Perdition). While many have tried to make the Pope and the Papacy the Antichrist, that is simply not true. He will be a renegade Jew with full access to the future temple in Jerusalem (which is strictly for Jews). He will present himself as the true Messiah (for unbelieving Jews) and/or the true Mahdi (for Muslims). For the rest of the world, he will claim to be the Savior of the world.
Daniel’s visions and Nebuchadnezzar’s dreams show us a succession of empire (Babylon, Persia, Greece, Rome, and Rome in the last days), which will culminate in the future worldwide empire of the Antichrist. In chapter 8 he is seen coming out of the former Grecian empire, in Daniel 11 he is seen as coming out of the succeeding Seleucid empire, and in Daniel 7 he is seen as coming out of the succeeding Roman empire, and its future manifestation (the European Union).
Within these visions, we see the unique characteristics of the Antichrist, as well as his beginning and his end. New Testament prophecies confirm what is revealed in the book of Daniel. And what is in Daniel will be simply combined to show continuity.
How do we know that the Little Horn is none other than the Antichrist ? The key fact is that he is the Arch Blasphemer of God and Christ. All these Scriptures say the same thing: And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven. (Rev 13:6) Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. (2 Thess 2:4) And he shall speak great words against the most High... (Dan 7;25) And it waxed great, even to the host of heaven; and it cast down some of the host and of the stars to the ground, and stamped upon them...Yea, he magnified himself even to the prince of the host... And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand. (Dan 8:10,11,25) And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done. Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard any god: for he shall magnify himself above all. But in his estate shall he honour the God of forces: and a god whom his fathers knew not shall he honour with gold, and silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things. (Dan 11:36-38)
1. The Little Horn is (a) a man (b) who has a mouth which speaks *great things*, and (c) whose appearance is greater than any of his contemporaries: I considered the horns, and, behold, there came up among them another little horn, before whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things... And of the ten horns that were in his head, and of the other which came up, and before whom three fell; even of that horn that had eyes, and a mouth that spake very great things, whose look was more stout than his fellows... And out of one of them came forth a little horn, which waxed exceeding great, toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the pleasant land.
2. He will reveal himself at the culmination of the Great Apostasy: And he said, Behold, I will make thee know what shall be in the last end of the indignation: for at the time appointed the end shall be... And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up.
3. He will be a very fierce man who dabbles in the occult: And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up... Thus shall he do in the most strong holds with a strange god, whom he shall acknowledge and increase with glory: and he shall cause them to rule over many, and shall divide the land for gain.
