Man is trying to return to the Garden of Eden by the works of the law (religion) Not Going to happen. Paul said, "Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law (what he does) but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we that have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law (what we do) for by the works of the law no flesh will be justified" Galatians 2:16.

Strong words from Christ number one apostle that wrote a good portion of the New Testament.

The reason that man cannot be justified and saved by the works of the law (what he does) is because man is a sinner. Romans 3:10. If God accepted the works of sinners, that would make him a sinner, this is why God only accepts the works and the obedience of Jesus Christ. We are accepted only in him and because of him. He is our savior.

My definition of religion: "Man's attempt to do in his flesh what God has ALREADY done in Jesus Christ" In the Gospel, Jesus has ALREADY fulfilled the law and abolished it, "Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone that believes" Romans 10:4.

In the Gospel Jesus has ALREADY atoned for our sins and the sins of the whole world, "And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world" 1 John 2:2. It's over, its finished, we are complete in him" Colossians 2:10. The doing and the dying of Jesus makes all religions worthless.

In the early church believers met and fellowshipped in their homes. We don't need to have fancy cathedrals or buildings to meet with other believers.

Not only are all religions worthless, but all religions are also anti-Christ. Religion does not believe that Jesus did it all and that he did it perfectly. If they believed that they would not be religious. To oppose justification by faith alone is to oppose the Gospel. All that oppose the Gospel are anti-Christ and are under the judgment of God.
