I think most Christians desire to be baptized in water post Salvation as an outward confession of their faith and born-again experience. A good thing. The wheels come off though when folks try to twist the scriptures to require water baptism for salvation. I think when looking at the period of time between Jesus's ascension to Heaven and Peter's experience with Cornelius Peter along with the other Apostles charged with taking the Gospel to the JEWS preached to their brethren water baptism just like John the Baptist. I have to wonder if God gave the experience with Cornelius to open Peter and the other Apostles' eyes that water baptism is not the "event" that matters. It's all about the Holy Spirit. The Jews were accustomed to water cleansing under the old covenant so there was the transition within the commission to the Jews.
In this verse, is water "post salvation"?...

38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

In my KJV and NKJV in Acts 2:38 there is no mention of water baptism. Only baptism in the name of Jesus Christ. To ignore Acts 11 and somehow understand it as a requirement of salvation is twisting the scripture. They believed and received the Holy Ghost and spoke in tongues. Peter was shocked. Salvation and proof of salvation were just like others Peter witnessed except without water baptism. The question was WHAT NOW? Should we now baptize them with water? It was a big deal so much so Peter took it up with the other Apostles in Jerusalem where Peter then remembered that what Jesus said. He comes to baptize in the Holy Spirit different than John does with water.

In Paul's epistles, there are numerous accounts of salvation without water baptism. Paul clearly teaches that we are baptized by the Holy Spirit at the moment of our repentance and faith given by God's grace. Paul even asks in his letter to the Galatians "did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law or by hearing with faith" Gal 3:2. Paul is clear when you believe and with faith, you are filled with the Holy Spirit just like what happened to Cornelius with Peter as a witness. Any action post receiving the Holy Spirit by faith to obtain salvation would be a works. Repent and be baptized in the Holy Spirit is all it takes.

Do you mean it says this?...

38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ BY THE HOLY GHOST for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Or....

38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be WATER baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Which makes more sense?

That's immersion into Jesus to be precise. Something done spiritually by God as we believe and receive.

Much love!
Were they saved here...

37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?

Or did they have to get saved by this?....

38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Jewish tradition continued water baptism, however, it is not taught for the church. Baptism is into Christ, which joins us to Him in His death and resurrection, and that saves us.

Much love!
Are you sure?...

38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost....

16 (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)...

38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him....

48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days...

5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

It is clear that you see in the scripture what you wish to see. Acts 1:5 Jesus says John baptized with water but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit. It's clear that Christ is talking about baptism with the Holy Spirit. HOW YOU RECEIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT when you do receive the Holy Spirit your baptized. No longer with water. This is without dispute even among novice theologians. When you repent you receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

Acts 19:5 is very clear again with Paul approaching some disciples asking if they had received the Holy Spirit (baptism), they had not. When they had HEARD what Paul said to them they were baptized (not by water but by HEARING THE WORD) EPH 5:26 the washing of water by the word. It's clearly the word of God not water.

1 Cor 1:15-17 Paul is not talking about water baptism. He says "I do not know whether I baptized any others" because baptism by hearing the word happens to many and not to others that Paul preached to in the crowd. He would not have known each and every one.

1 Peter 3:21 Peter tells us There is also an antitype (symbol) which NOW saves us - baptism NOT THE REMOVAL OF THE FILTH OF THE FLESH (water) but the answer of a good conscience toward God thru the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Peter is clearly saying that baptism comes now by faith in Jesus Christ.

Acts 8:17 Peter and John with the Apostles "PRAYED THAT THEY MIGHT RECEIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT, THEY LAID HANDS UPON THEM AND THEY RECEIVED THE HOLY SPIRIT (BAPTIZED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT WITHOUT WATER BUT BY LAYING OF HANDS)

Acts 9:17-18 Ananias by laying hands on Paul so that he may receive your sight AND be filled with the Holy Spirit. The scriptures tell us that immediately (not after they found some water) he received his sight and arose and was baptized. Nothing in the scripture about Paul being baptized with water. It was immediate and by the laying of hands by Ananias who God sent to Paul.

Over and over again in the N.T. we see clearly the scriptures telling us about the baptism of the Holy Spirit without water. Some have made the mistake that when they read "baptism" they plug water in their minds when it's not talking about water baptism, it's the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Not like John the Baptist use to do it but NOW how Jesus baptizes us when we have faith. Just like Cornelius was baptized before he ever got wet. Water baptism is now an ordnance to publically profess our faith in Christ. It has nothing to do with receiving salvation or washing away sins. Faith is sufficient to do that not a ritual we perform in front of an audience.

Amen! What is the true church, and what should we be looking for?

The Five-Fold Ministry
Ephesians Chapter 4 (KJV)
11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

The Fruit of the Spirit
Galatians Chapter 5 (KJV)
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

The Gifts of the Spirit
1 Corinthians Chapter 12 (KJV)
4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:

1 Corinthians 12:28 (KJV)
And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.

Mostly.

What is your problem...the eye or the hand?
They are just body parts, they can be used either way.

The real issue is the the heart that dehumanizes others as a means to avoid loving them. So For me it was cutting away the heart.

Much love!

Paul was baptized, to "wash away your sins, calling upon the Name of the Lord", such a beautiful picture of repentance and salvation as Paul repudiates his former way of life, to trust in Jesus Christ.

Then Jesus taught Paul the Gospel, which Paul went on to teach to us.

Our baptism is spiritual,

Romans 6:3-7 KJV
3) Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
4) Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
5) For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:
6) Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
7) For he that is dead is freed from sin.

We are immersed into Christ, to join Him in His death, burial, and resurrection. Water doesn't do that, the Holy Spirit does that.

Paul affirms this is the only baptism,

Ephesians 4:4-6 KJV
4) There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
5) One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
6) One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

Paul shows this in his practice,

1 Corinthians 1:13-18 KJV
13) Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?
14) I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius;
15) Lest any should say that I had baptized in mine own name.
16) And I baptized also the household of Stephanas: besides, I know not whether I baptized any other.
17) For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.
18) For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

He was glad to not have baptized these others, actually thanking God for putting a cap on it! Because Paul's mission was to preach the Gospel in the cross of Christ, which is itself - the cross of Christ - the power of God, not water. Paul wanted nothing that would detract from the cross.

Much love!

Loving souls is telling them to obey Acts 2:38 like Peter did.

Not loving souls is telling them to disobey Peter(which is obeying the enemy by default).

Water does save(you know the scripture per Peter).

It gives us a clean CONSCIENCE before God(via remission of sins).

How?

By saying "in the name of Jesus Christ" as we are immersed in the water.

That is God's grace.

Is Acts 2:38 Grace or not Grace per the 3000 at Pentecost?

Loving others is the tell them truth, which is that we are saved by trusting in Jesus and His obedient act, not by doing physical acts of obedience of our own, that they would save us. They don't. They don't get us saved, and they don't keep us saved.

To teach otherwise is to bring confusion.

"not by washing dirt away . . . but the inquiry of a good conscience towards God. It's inside, not outside.

Sounds like extreme laziness.

Repentance is a physical act that produces spiritual results.

Now we are too lazy for repentance?

Shall the Acts skippers ask quietly as not to expel energy, for God to repent for them too?

Shall God go through our closets as we sleep?

Physical? What is physical about changing your mind? And besides . . . God gives you rebirth. You don't birth yourself.

To have a clean conscience before God, you need a physical act to recall in your mind(at a point in time).

You cannot "decide by faith" you are clean per God's standards.

This is why Acts 2:38 was commanded for the remission of your sins, which in turn, cleans your conscience.

Upon dying, we will only be able to present to God that we obeyed Acts 2:38, which testifies in our behalf that our sins were remitted by the name of Jesus Christ upon our water baptism.

Our "faith in our faith" will not stand as remission of sins.

Then it sounds that way to you . . . why?

Because you believe you must work to be saved?

Much love!
Sure.

Just as long as I don't keep the works of the Law to be saved.

You mean to tell me that you did not know that those verses about works were explicitly speaking of the Law of the OT?

Did you not know that "confessing Jesus" is a work of man?

The only way you will ever not work to "be saved" is to subconsciously confess in your dreams without moving your mouth...think about it.

I don't know that's true. Why was Paul so glad he hadn't water baptized more than those he had? If water baptism were the centerpoint of being saved, that would make no sense whatsoever.

People poing to a "sinner's prayer", also not prescribed as a method of salvatoin, but just the same, an act done at a point in time, why not look to that? The first time you spoke to God in humility and faith?

Paul specifically contrasted the cross against other things, lest anything detract from the power of the cross, the true power in salvation.

Our "faith in our faith" will not stand as remission of sins.
Neither faith in baptism nor faith in faith itself saves us, but faith in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Upon dying, we will only be able to present to God that we obeyed Acts 2:38, which testifies in our behalf that our sins were remitted by the name of Jesus Christ upon our water baptism.

This is interesting. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm not expecting to have to present anything to my Father when this body stops working. I'm thinking I'll continue to be His son, not because I've been immersed into water, but because I've been immersed into Christ, where I remain.

I can't imaging having to present some "case" of why I should be "let in those pearly gates". My concept is much different than than. More like, living in this world is like knowing my Father but with ear plugs and blindfold. Upon death, those come off, and I will see Him.

Much love!
