Jer 31:33...But this is the covenant which I will make
with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD:
I will put my law within them, and I
will write it upon their hearts; and I will be their God,
and they shall be my people.
Several things about that prophecy in this OT prophecy are missed and many do not understand that Jeremiah's prophesy was fulfilled on the day of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit descended upon the leaders of the tribes of Israel and Judah after hearing Peters sermon.
1)
Act 2:5..."Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews,
devout men from every nation under heaven." ---- This verse is important because the OT has a law that all 12 tribes were to have one representative of that tribe attend the 3 major festivals each year. The underlined term "devout men from every
nation";
"nation" meaning every tribe's leader means that they were there on that eventful feast day. Those 12 representatives were also among that list of people from all the tribes are mentioned in Acts 2:9-11.
2)
Act 2:16-17a...but this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:'And in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh,...Jeremiah's prophecy looked forward to that Day of Pentecost when God's spirit
"wrote it in their hearts."
3)
Act 2:14...But Peter, standing with the eleven, lifted up his voice and addressed them,
"Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and give ear to my words. ---- Here you have the representative of
"tribe of Judah" fulfilling his obligation to be at the feast on that historical day of Pentecost.
4)
Act 2:36...Let all the house of Israel therefore know assuredly that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified." ---- Here you have the representative from the
"tribe of Israel" fulfilling his obligation to be at the feast on the historical day of Pentecost as well.
5) Peter then address the representative of the tribe of Israel directly out of that multitude by saying in
Act 2:22 "Men of Israel, hear these words:"...
6) Again Peter speaks to the House of Israel representative and says..."
Let all the house of Israel therefore know assuredly that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified."(
Act 2:36)
Fulfillment confirmed by the NT writers in Hebrews:
6)
Heb 8:10 -
"This is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put my laws into their minds, and write them on their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people."
7) Heb 10:16 -
"This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put my laws on their hearts, and write them on their minds,"
Further fulfillment is implied in Revelations:
1)
Rev 7:4 - And I heard the number of the sealed, a hundred and forty-four thousand
sealed, out of every tribe of the sons of Israel,
2)
Rev 7:5 - twelve thousand
sealed out of the tribe of Judah,
3) Rev 7:9 -
After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no man could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands,
Lastly, there is an OT prophecy in Ezekiel 37 concerning God's joining two sticks that Ezekiel was to gather and then hold them together in one hand. God would then miraculously join those two sticks of Judah and Israel together. The fact that the above verses are in Acts, Hebrews and finally in Revelations indicates that that prophecy was also fulfilled on the Day of Pentecost as 3 different writers confirm Jeremiah's prophecy.
Lots of nice philosophizing and opinion making but no facts. God made it very clear that the New Covenant was not just for the representatives of the 12 tribes (and how do you know if these "representatives" were really there as the ten northern tribes had been scattered under the Assyrian invasion under Senacherib) but for all Jews! Verse 34 bears that out without ambiguity- though that doesn't stop people from reinterpreting Scripture to suit their fancy:
Jeremiah 31:31-34
King James Version
31 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the Lord:
33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the Lord: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.
Words like ALL and from the least to the greatest is all inclusive and not just meanig a representative sample.
Also we have these promises of all Israel (the survivors that is) being saved:
Ezekiel 20:33-38
King James Version
33 As I live, saith the Lord God, surely with a mighty hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with fury poured out, will I rule over you:
34 And I will bring you out from the people, and will gather you out of the countries wherein ye are scattered, with a mighty hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with fury poured out.
35 And I will bring you into the wilderness of the people, and there will I plead with you face to face.
36 Like as I pleaded with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so will I plead with you, saith the Lord God.
37 And I will cause you to pass under the rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant:
38 And I will purge out from among you the rebels, and them that transgress against me: I will bring them forth out of the country where they sojourn, and they shall not enter into the land of Israel: and ye shall know that I am the Lord.
Only through manipulating gods Word can anyone imply these means just a represntation!
Zechariah 13:8-9
King James Version
8 And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the Lord, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein.
9 And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The Lord is my God.
Also I noticed you conveniently ignore the verse that says this:
Jeremiah 31:34
King James Version
34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the Lord: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.
Jews no longer need to be told to know the Lord??????? Last time I looked ALL still means ALL! from the lowliest Jew to the Benjamin Netenyahu's should all know the Lord according to the bible. But I am sure you have a nifty reinterpretation of this as well.
