She likes asking others about their tattoos, and talking about her own. And witnessing about how God took her through cancer. :)
@Lambano So you said also she supported her son when he went to get his ears pierced.

So would she also support him likewise if he similarly wanted an experience getting inked up, like she already did?

He got inked-up before she did. He has a range of designs ranging from Godzilla to a character from some fool video game he likes to the rat from Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles to a lion that he drew himself. Frankly, an adult with learning disabilities earning little more than minimum wage shouldn't be spending his money on ink.

@Lambano Well, I see...so from what you say he maybe has some money priority challenges....

So it seems like your dw actually didn't start getting tattooed until later in life, then...?

The Sweet Lady got her first tattoo sometime after she recovered from breast cancer surgery. She would've been, lessee, in her late 50s then. Surviving cancer was a major inflection point in her spiritual life. It changed her. Her faith became stronger and she became more confident in talking about it. She got the butterfly tattoos as her talking points.

@Lambano

Someone quoted in the Huffington Post has commented about how many mature women seem to be really flourishing with finding it a way of increasing their confidence:

"...Most of my clients are in the older bracket," Gallo-Kohlas told The Huffington Post. "We see a lot of women in their sixties and seventies getting their first tattoos."
Many Women Get Tattoos Post 50 ? And Don't Regret It Later huffington post

Seeing that your wife had a personal testimony angle also kind of underlines its potentials, I guess.

As Ronald Nolette said, it can become a real talking point for those who are prepared to use it that way:

If it works- go for it. I have quizzed folks with massive body art. Very careful to be harmless but asked them the whys of it. I have learned a lot from them.

Tattooing in our day is big, if you need or want a tattoo, that is what you should have written in the biggest boldest lettering you can get. Stare at it daily, study it daily, it never gets old. It is the only message you need that flows from scripture in full depth of understanding for anyone that will pick it up and want to know something about it.
@soul man Do you remember this, your post about getting big, bold tattooing?

More recently, Ronald Nolette said about its sheer scope:

If it works- go for it. I have quizzed folks with massive body art. Very careful to be harmless but asked them the whys of it. I have learned a lot from them.

@FluffyYellowDuck You've talked about skin issues in the past, but anyway I hope it doesn't give you any problems/irritation now.

Ppl in the end often learn to get comfortable with their own skin and any ink.
It's been about over ten years since I got mine, but it will rise and get inflamed if my immune system has had enough.

It's my neck's "sit down" alarm clock.

I’ll do a detailed inventory later, but I think the total is now an even dozen. No regerts, er, regrets except for the one that got infected.
@Lambano Since it sounds even like there were several sessions, definitely no regrets there, then.....

(Seems like -with its talking point potential - it's something she appreciates keeping doing, in her circumstances.)

It worked well for the pastor who took godly counsel, but how you deal with your past is a matter of conscience and can't be taken lightly one way or another. Some folks will judge you no matter what you say or do, but I agree with the Apostle Paul, who was judged by people quite a bit.

4 This is the way any person is to regard us: as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. 2 In this case, moreover, it is required of stewards that one be found trustworthy. 3 But to me it is an insignificant matter that I would be examined by you, or by any human court; in fact, I do not even examine myself. 4 For I am not aware of anything against myself; however I am not vindicated by this, but the one who examines me is the Lord. 5 Therefore do not go on passing judgment before the time, but wait until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the things hidden in the darkness and disclose the motives of human hearts; and then praise will come to each person from God. 1 Corinthians 4:1-5
@michaelvpardo Great passage there.

Yes, there will always be different views out there about things such as tattoos.

Romans 14 is a helpful guide to such matters, right?

But that is a cool way of looking at it.
@Mantis Well, the advice to the heavily tattooed lady who joined the church I mentioned was not to worry about it; and it can be done with a lot of social confidence now also, which is probably why many young ppl get Bible verses/ref.s inked in as reference tools.

I think the most important part over getting a tattoo is being fully persuaded with a clear conscience before God. .. So a faith based tattoo for the purpose of faith and witnessing surely can’t be a bad thing…
@Goldie75 All the young ppl with Bible verses tattooed seem to have had them done as witness tooks.

Your family might not yet be at the stage of life where tattoos often get to be in vogue.

But anyway for the young lady with whom my wife and I talked with the wording of John 3.16 tattooed on her wrist area it was her favorite Bible verse - and mine also. Seemingly it worked to bring about a conversation - and I'm sure with others also.

So they do work, indeed, as talking points / conversation-starters (as @Lambano also has been saying).

Oh my girls are all in their 20’s and have left home now.

If something facilitates a discussion about the Lord with an unsaved person I’m all for it.

And I agree, as has been said above - if someone has tattoos from the ‘dark side’, and goes on to have faith, God can use that. It’s something certain people will be able to relate to well.

Yes, and you know something else? it seems now like it's so often the conservative ppl that are getting tattooed also:

As GodsGrace says:

GodsGrace said:
almost every young girl I know has some sort of tatoo.
Even those very conservative types.

Kind of, not obligatory...but rather a widespread way including for conservative ppl to express themselves in a socially confident way about things that really matter to the person.

This is probably why not a few Christian young ppl get Bible verses/ref.s as witness tools that are effective as conversation-starters. (If this makes some sense?)
