Ah yes, the in between verse.
It seems to contradict the two verses before it and the two verses after it. What to do, what to do... ???
Should we toss this one, or the other four? (or toss NOTHING? My preference)
Romans 5:17 = I like 'your preference' seeing that is not in violation of this portion of
God's Rule #3: "...Never Subtract (toss?) from God's Word..." Amen? Big challenges trying to
find the explanations of "seeming Contradictions" * when we know there are NONE, eh?

btw, since it appears you haven't visited the above 'link' yet, that (just so you know)
ALL the rules I dug up were From Scripture, except maybe this one, which is more
logic/reason based?:

(6) The Best "Interpretive" Commentary On The Bible Is The BIBLE Itself!

* NEVER ever interpret The Many Plain Scriptures by the "few" difficult verses, But,
ALWAYS Always Interpret the few Obscure/Difficult/Dubious verses By ALL Of The
MANY Plain and Clear Passages Of God’s Pure And Holy Word!

These 7 rules ( + asking w,w,w,w,w + how? ) have, imho, Greatly Lessened the need for me
to get into the time-consuming scholarly methods of hermeneutics, exegesis, eisegesis,
anagogical interpretation, history, church fathers' writings perusals, etc. etc. etc. - seeing
that I am still Mostly "ignorant and unlearned" - WHEW!

Thanks Be Unto God! Amen.

Hello Steven,

Personally I believe that Jesus has had victory over all things, Satan, his angels, the false prophet, the beast, hell, earth, death, spiritual he conquered over everything and paid also the very price of sin which had he taken while going on trail, beaten, crowned, stripped, spit on, then whipped, and given a cross to bear - the sin of the world and rightly so his choice was to allow himself to leave that body which died on that cross which was the sacrifice for the sin of all the world - taken on freely by the Word of God, which was with-in that fleshly body of the Messiah. After having been in the realm of the dead for 3 days, the Father of lights, raised the Messiah the Begotten Son of God up from the dead by the Holy Spirit of God. Included in all of this is the inclusive decision to also believe that after Jesus had acessended up through the clouds as the 500 witness that watched him go on up into the clouds until he had disappeared. This was a understanding that there is a Kingdom above this world; and it is a heavenly kingdom.

While Jesus had went onward after having went to the realm of the dead for 3 days, and going up through the clouds, he sat down at the right hand of God, until all things were completed meaning once the Gospel had spread to all through the known land - earth - territory which Paul had preached, and understanding the that Last days, started when the written work by Luke called the Acts of the Apostles. That Jesus Christ would return in the same way, just as the priest had done in the temple when they went into the holy of holiest to offer sacrifice for sin. Jesus is doing the same thing as he goes up into from the earth until he is no longer seen - translated into heaven which he sits at the right hand of God until the time when all have been put beneath the feet of Jesus and that then Jesus would hand over everything back to his Father.

Therefore Jesus Christ in my purview had returned in 70AD, which was a generation of 40 years since the life of the Messiah, the Son of God, the Son of Man, the Son of David, The Son of Joseph, who made prospects to his Apostles who ask him when would they understand when the Lord would becoming back nearing the end of the age, and Jesus talks about many differing things in the Gospel accounts of Matthew, Mark, and I believe Luke. John doesn't talk about the end of the age in his book I do not think.

When the destruction and the fire blaze of Jerusalem had started the temple and all of it stones were crumbled down just as Jesus had promised, and perhaps the approach of Jesus - by the signs that were given - were a warning of how soon and how close the day would be approaching, and the romans had surrounded Jerusalem and they were taken over just like when Babylonia had taken over at one point in time. This warning sign could have came early 66AD, perhaps. Always try to keep and open mind and think and consider the history is just my encouragement.

It is wise to consider what Jesus says, and maybe check history if there are any reports, of such occurrences with-in the message of Jesus that can by any means relate to history in the closet approximation that one can get to?

Was this too long to read the short version is here:

In the end of all things, I believe that Revelation 21-22, are interesting segments of scripture. They are profound, and are good to read and study when it comes down to my opinion on what these two chapters mean or represent - I would like to really say that the chapters are distinguished as there being a Heavenly Jerusalem that has twelve gates around it, and each gate has a stone above it for the children of Israel, and the gates around that city never close, there is no need for sun or moon, for God will be the light, there is the Lamb who is there and I believe Jesus said people from all over the world will be able to feast with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

There is also the outside of the Kingdom, where darkness seems to reside, and those who had no faith, nor care or love for God perhaps and they remain outside of the Kingdom, given a resurrected body by the Father, but it may not be equipped enough to dwell in the light. Because of the gates never closing, I wonder if we as believers - children, or sons or daughters of God will be able to go out and help those who never came to know the truth out in the heavenly realm, and be able to retreat back to the kingdom from time to time for rest and visiting with others.

Even if I am wrong, that is my hope over all.

My precious friend, @MatthewG, may I kindly point out that we are discussing the future, (not the
past = another thread for 'preterism'?) at "the end of time, into eternity of the new heavens and
new earth [did that occur Already?]" and...

...The applicable Scripture verses for UR (universalism - will ALL, without exception, be saved?), here.
If you have Scripture verse(s) for this topic, we will gladly review and formulate an answer, ok?

Please Be Very RICHLY Encouraged and Edified In Christ...

Deliverance entering Into the next Eternal lifetime ►►► Blessed Hope ◄◄◄
Future Tense =

"...God Will Yet Deliver me" = CHRIST's Glorification of [me +] All "members" Of HIS Body!! {This Is Eternal Deliverance From the Presence of sin!} ................................................↑ ↑ ↑ ↑ ↑ In Christ ↑ ↑ ↑ ↑ ↑
(1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; 1 Corinthians 15:51-57;2 Corinthians 1:10c). Hallelujah! Praise HIS Excellent Name!!
Just thought about this minor [or MAJOR] Correction in my view...

Which, btw, annihilates the "Partial rapture" theory...

1 Timothy 2:1-6
"I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and
giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority;
that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this
is good and acceptable in The Sight of God our Saviour;
Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of The
Truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, The Man
Christ Jesus; Who Gave Himself A Ransom for all, to be testified in due time."

"God Desires all men to be saved" Or: "God WILL, in the end, 'save all men'"?
See my notes/questions:
Prayers made for all people. (vs 1) Agree, with results in this life
It is God's will that all humankind be saved. (vs 4) God's Desire?
Jesus gave himself as a ransom (buy back price) for all. (vs 6) Totally Agree, Best News EVER!

To be testified in due time. (vs 6) What? ???

To be testified in due time? When? I believe God Did This In "The Revelation Of His Mystery" to Paul...

Has not the ransom for all been testified to all yet?
Not until The Body Of Christ (members In Him) finish preaching/testifying to ALL those who "have not yet heard"? Or, we're raptured first?
Quotes from two other good friends.

- God gives life
- God is ALL Powerful
- God Desires all to be saved
- God does nothing in vain
- God knows the end from the beginning
- God doesn't fail
Amen!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
God's sovereign Will is clear: that all men come to salvation in Him.
Will the Will of God not prevail?
The Calvinists assert that God is able to save all, but chooses not to.
The Arminians counter that He would like to save all, but cannot.
There is a third position, that God is both WILLING and ABLE to save all.
That ALL men come to salvation in Him, Or: UR = "That ALL men WILL BE saved By Him"?
I believe there is a difference, but no conclusion by me can yet be made Until my homework
assignment of review of ALL Scriptures is Complete! Amen?
Fair enough.
Next from the list in post #33
Romans 9:16 KJV
So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

(salvation is) Not by our will, nor by our works, but by God's mercy.

This is God's doing. We have no say in the matter, as it pertains to all of humankind.
Individual judgment and restoration will take care of the rest.

Let me restate, or clarify, all three views of the final judgment have biblical support.
Perhaps you can see, based on what I have brought to date, that Christian Universalism (UR) has biblical support.
But you may have heard this all before, not sure. I'm certainly not a superstar in the defense of UR.
Still just a lowly recovering evangelical layman. (ouch)

I'll be happy to let you drive for Chapter Two of this exploration. (new topic?)
I want all your questions to be answered to the best of my ability.
But I'm not afraid to say, "I don't know."

Romans 3:24
"Being Justified Freely By His Grace Through The Redemption That Is In Christ Jesus"

Still troubling to me, is not yet having found Scriptural Basis for this to be effective for
UNbelievers, giving them second and third chances in the afterlife, after having rejected
God's Gracious Offer in the nowlife? (Chapter Two 'Judgments' may have 'answers'?)

But, WE are working together, and getting closer, right?
Romans 9:16
"So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him
that runneth, but of God That Sheweth Mercy."

Challenging, to say the least - 'WHAT' Exactly is not, but is of?

Looking for the meat grinder? - LOL
Sorry, what follows is a terrible analogy. Please look away.

To our far left is a fine pile of pork on the kitchen cutting board.
To our far right is a huge platter full of pork sausage.

Unfortunately, what happens in between is shielded from our view. A secret?
So, we need to figure out what happened here in the middle.

We can see where we started, and we can see where we ended.
What would cause the end product? What needs to happen in between?

Unless you have another explanation, there must be a meat grinder here.

Do I need to explain how this applies to the subject at hand? Probably not. But...

But, WE are working together, and getting closer, right?
Working together, yes. (I suppose)
Getting closer? To what? Toward a singular answer reached in funnel fashion? (nope)
Not my plan. But you do as you feel led.

More to say about the (horrible) sausage analogy. cc: @GRACE ambassador
Apologies for this apologetic? Or, milk is for the immature, let's get to the meat! - LOL

The point is that the end of something points to evidence of what may have happened.
Investigators look for clues, and do the research, then present their findings.

Not sure if I have presented this before, but it gives a clear picture of the end product that I see.
Please don't overlook the Strong's definition of "acknowledge" (confess) in Phil.2:11. (bottom of the post)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Anyone who has knees to bow and a tongue to speak, in heaven and on earth and under the earth (in the realm of the dead), will whole-heartedly, and without reservation, acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord. No one can say that “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit. If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” you will be saved. Christ died and returned to life so that he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living. (the reason for the bodily resurrection) Scriptural support below.
Philippians 2:10-11
that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
1 Corinthians 12:3
Therefore I want you to know that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says,
“Jesus be cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.
Romans 10:9
If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart
that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
Romans 14:9
For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that
he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living.
Note on "acknowledge" in Philippians 2:11 from Strong's Concordance
S1843 eksomologéō (from 1537 /ek, "wholly out from," intensifying 3670 /homologéō, "say the same thing about") – properly, fully agree and to acknowledge that agreement openly (whole-heartedly); hence, to confess ("openly declare"), without reservation (no holding back).
To be clear, UR is not about "second and third chances in the afterlife". (as I understand it)
And I don't view a rejection of "God's Gracious Offer" as an obstacle to the salvation for all that has already been accomplished.
The vast majority throughout history have not even heard "God's Gracious Offer".
As I wrote earlier, "Nothing is left to chance." And...
"Anyone who claims to hate God hasn't met Him yet."
Quote from yet another friend.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Here is a challenge to you. Tell me which one of these is incorrect:

God gives life

God is ALL Powerful

God desires all to be saved

God does nothing in vain

God knows the end from the beginning

God doesn't fail

Because if you believe all of those are correct then all men shall be saved - just as your Bible says they will be.

cc: @St. SteVen, please be advised about:

More troubling passages, for examination, about WHAT Jesus Taught Here:

"And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into
Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; And in hell he lift up
his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus,
that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am
tormented in this flame.
But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things,
and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.
And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which
would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come
from thence.
Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's
house: For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come
into this place of torment.
Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. And
he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.
And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, Neither will they be
persuaded, though one rose from the dead." (Luke 16:22-31)

IF these are not persuaded By Scriptures, are they then, after death/judgment persuaded
"under the earth, in torment," Or, after resurrection, By The LORD Jesus Christ, The
Righteous Judge, At
[ their ] Final Judgment? (to be further examined in Ch 2...)
The vast majority throughout history have not even heard "God's Gracious Offer".
WHAT then? Isn't This God's Answer (before we exit this life, in physical death)?:

Rom 1:20 "For the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world
are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, Even
His Eternal Power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse"

All?
+
Doesn't God Also Have An Answer for "those who DO seek Him"? Will He not Send
someone To them, as in this Biblical Example, With His Truth/Words Of Life?:

"Act 10:1-33 "There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion
of the band called the Italian band, A devout man, and one that feared God with
all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway.
He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God
coming in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius. And when he looked on him,
he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and
thine alms are come up for a memorial before God.
And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter:
He lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side: he shall
tell thee what thou oughtest to do.
...
Send therefore to Joppa, and call hither Simon, whose surname is Peter; he is
lodged in the house of one Simon a tanner by the sea side: who, when he cometh,
shall speak unto thee. Immediately therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well done
that thou art come. Now therefore are we all here present before God, to hear all
things that are commanded thee of God." (Acts 10: 1-33)

Did you not know, that after The Gospel of Grace is preached to all who will hear, and
we leave earth In God's Great Grace Departure, to Heaven, that Grace is thus Ended, and:

God's prophetic program Resumes with judgment/Great Tribulation for Israel and the nations,
and that there will be:

144,000 Sealed Jews, 2 powerful witnesses, And an angel 'flying in the midst of heaven,'
to preach the Everlasting
gospel of the kingdom "unto them that dwell on the earth,
and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people"
(Rev 14:6)

ALL of them? Did God then Leave anyone out of the "vast majority throughout history have not even heard"?
Still troubling to me, is not yet having found Scriptural Basis for this to be effective for
UNbelievers, giving them second and third chances in the afterlife, after having rejected
God's Gracious Offer in the nowlife?
To be clear, UR is not about "second and third chances in the afterlife". (as I understand it)

No one can say that “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit. If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” you will be saved.
Yes, I believe:

Rom_14:11 "For it is written, As I live, Saith The Lord, every knee
shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God."
Php_2:11 "And that every tongue should confess that
Jesus Christ is LORD, to The Glory of God the Father."

But, The Differences I understand, is the WHEN:

1) believers do this in this life, By The Holy Spirit.

2) But, the Evidence of WHEN 'UNbelievers do this' confessing will have
to wait to be asked about/examined, in the (work in progress...)
Final Judgment, Ch 2...

Thanks again, friend - appreciate all your careful attention and valuable input in Ch 1...

As usual, preconceptions lead us to knee-jerk conclusions.

This would be a good place for me to emphasize that UR advocates support repentance and a restored relationship with God in this lifetime.
An afterlife in heaven with God is not the ONLY reason to seek a relationship with God.

I don't get a sense of eternal hell with no hope of escape from this passage.
There is certainly a division in who ends up where. Lazarus in comfort, the Rich Man in torment.

I suppose that YOU should be most troubled about the reasons given for the destination of each man.
Does that match your doctrine?

"But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things,
and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented."

So...
- Good things in life = torment in the afterlife ???
- Evil things in life = comfort in the afterlife ???

This is a difficult passage. IMHO

Is acknowledging the God of creation sufficient to "save" a person?
No repentance? No understanding of the Atonement? No baptism? No part in the Body of Christ? No good works? (fruit)

As usual, preconceptions lead us to knee-jerk conclusions.
Friend, please do elaborate, as I desire Neither...
The usual approach to scripture is to reasonably ask, "What does this mean?"
Which seems innocent enough. And it is, to a point.
This is where preconceptions kick in. The basic tool we use to analyze.
We all do it. I just hope to make us aware that we do.

We see it on the forum all the time. Posters butting heads over their preconceptions.
They even justify it as contending for the faith. And then use it to bludgeon another believer.
What's wrong with this picture?

Ask yourself, "Is it not my preconceptions that make these passages troubling?"
I need to keep myself in check, as well.

AMEN, precious friend!
Thanks.
Our discussion has been a good example for all. (I hope)

A common objection to UR is that it nullifies the need for evangelism.
Not the case at all. In fact UR puts MORE emphasis on the VALUE of salvation in the here and now.

I was shocked at the results of a survey that I saw.
Christian respondents were asked if they would follow Jesus if there was no afterlife.
To my absolute HORROR, that majority vote was a solid, "No!"

I had the ability to discuss these disturbing findings with participants.
Even after making my plea for the value of a relationship with God in the here and now...
They held their ground. "No!" (sigh... groan)

Salvation was a get-out-of-hell-free card to them. An the fear to stay with it. Nothing more.
They saw zero value for salvation in the here and now if it did not include the afterlife.
Or should I say, the fear of losing it. (salvation in the afterlife) They needed the threat of hell.

Quite ironic that these same fine folks would claim that UR nullifies the need for evangelism.

Confessing "Jesus Is LORD," without compulsion?:
Anyone who has knees to bow and a tongue to speak, in heaven and on earth and under the earth (in the realm of the dead), will whole-heartedly, and without reservation, acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord. Confessing then, does have the Merit of ' restoration,' Correct?:

Or,

Contradiction? Or Conjecture about Unbelievers (who died) Second Chance 'confession'?:

"...there are many reasons one might think this confession is too late, but, unfortunately, in my case, the line of thought was roughly as follows: “Of course they’ll confess then. It’ll be so obvious that Jesus is Lord at that point. There’s no merit to confessing at that point.” (Keith DeRose universalist) Another member of your ur Team?

Inconsistencies don't help me much, so, I should just stay with The Bible, eh, my precious friend?
Ask yourself, "Is it not my preconceptions that make these passages troubling?"
I need to keep myself in check, as well.
No, laid ALL of them to rest, long ago, and just (keeping 'me In Check') searching
Christ's 'Eternal Life' Scriptures/Words (s-l-o-w part 2?) For His Truth To me.

Glad to hear you are doing that as "well (done)." :innocent:
Our discussion has been a good example for all. (I hope)
Same hope here, as well...

Confessing "Jesus Is LORD," without compulsion?:
Yes.
Did you overlook the definition?
Here it is again, friend. Thanks.

Philippians 2:10-11
that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.

Note on "acknowledge" in Philippians 2:11 from Strong's Concordance
S1843 eksomologéō (from 1537 /ek, "wholly out from," intensifying 3670 /homologéō, "say the same thing about") – properly, fully agree and to acknowledge that agreement openly (whole-heartedly); hence, to confess ("openly declare"), without reservation (no holding back).
