You said:One's own righteousness can avoid curses and attract blessing as concerns THIS life, but it doesn't attain to eternal life.
“One’s own righteousness can avoid curses and attract blessing as concerns THIS life”
Love 2 Corinthians because it shows (Imo) a group of brethren in their own righteousness to avoid curses and to attract blessing… in cursing Paul they are attracting no blessing, but cursing instead. No matter how righteous they think they are and how blessed they claim they are…to me Paul (Christ speaking in Paul) is about the blow apart their own claims as Paul being the one who lacks power, the one who lacks Life, the one who remains dead in his sin and has not been made perfect”alive unto God” as they have. Paul (the Life I now Live, I Live by the power of God of Christ in me) is about to sling the door wide open …pulling down strong holds and bringing down every vain imagination that exalts itself against the knowledge of Christ.
Today, if this were to happen…Paul would be blamed as promoting working for salvation in the intreating of others to not be hearers only, but doers also. Because Paul is asking them for an active doing in “do not evil” “do no wrong” even though we be as reprobate, weak (crucified) among you, that you be made strong, that you be made complete in Him, that you be made whole in Him, this we wish and hope…even your perfection.
You are right. ^the above does not attain to Life but attains unto death and curing. See their own righteousness exalted above the knowledge of Christ…against Christ speaking in and through their brother, Paul. But IT IS NOT …do nothing brothers because this would be you trying to earn salvation. Instead it is … “do no wrong” “do no evil” even though we be as reprobate. They are doing already…if you would notice by doing wrong and evil and cursing against a brother crucified in weakness that they be made strong. Claiming they are righteous and Paul is weak. Paul says the opposite. That they are weak and need to be made strong. (As Peter was told; feed My Sheep, strengthen your brothers). Today, that (edification of others) is called workers for salvation. “Get away from it!!!” “Curse it!” “Warn it!” “Spit on that!”
They are Cursing. But Paul wants them to bless. Today, urging others to bless and to not curse (I’m not meaning bad words but truly cursing those we claim to love “for their own good” when that is an outright lie being for “our own good” and not theirs. As those attacking Paul said it was for Paul’s own good and not theirs. The evidence is clear who was for edification of the body of Christ, and who was for destroying it. today the urging to bless and not curse is said to be promoting working for salvation.
You said “but it doesn’t attain to eternal life” Paul shows “attaining to Life” in correction, discipline, warning, calling, pleading, patience, long-suffering, brotherly kindness …”be made strong” “let the dead be raised and come to Life” “Be you made Alive unto God” “let the Peace of God rule in your hearts” pulling down strong holds and every vain thought that exalts itself above the knowledge of Christ …today in a body of Christ, the church, Paul would be thrown out (in my opinion) straightway being told he is wrong to urge “do no wrong” “do what is right” even though we be as reprobate. With the tip of the nose of superiority, he would be accused of promoting something evil by wanting others to be strengthened in the doing of what they preach which is Christ. Would Paul be accused today of being a promoter of doing, by saying to not only hear but do?
