Ok...decades ago I knew how I and others saw Christians..one thing was they
used the word "blood" so much and it creeped us out.
I mean covered in the blood, washed in the blood , saved by the blood...so much blood talk...

So, here on this forum it is used ....what personally do you feeeeeel and mean when you use it?
Have you had some vision of being covered in blood?
Do you see drops on you? I mean, why is it part of your vernacular, language, lingo..whatever the word is.

There is nothing wrong with it so don't go into attack mode on me...I want to know why you all
say it.
I don't want or need a Bib
le verses...just what do you feeeeeeel when you say it.
Maybe there is a purpose? I dunno.

I ain't really a touchy feely kind of guy. However, what such would mean to me: The blood of the Passover serves as a "covering" from the destroyer. And it is through faith in the blood. For the blood was applied to the head and sides of the door, just as the blood is applied to our thoughts and actions done aforetime.

For whatever it may or may not be worth.

Too many horror movies give blood a bad name. When we see blood we think violence, injury or death. Rightly so. Because if we see it, then its not were its supposed to be: inside the body.

Its too bad you don't want or need a Bible verse. I had a good one to share.

I dont like it because it feels violent, as FHII mentioned. It used to represent life, now it represents death

It still represents life, Aspen. Wish I could share the 3 or 4 Bible verses that say the life is in the blood, but I can't. I could then talk biologically about blood and bore you all to tears. But at least it would be science proving God is right.

But anyway... The perception is that blood is bad. Not so. We shouldn't let Jason, Michael Myers or Freddie Kruger tell us differently.

You already posted to me, honey...go ahead and talk to others and post some verses! ;]

I have experienced, in awe, blood is love, btw...watching it rush out to heal my little
cut cells...it was All about love and healing...rushing to my hurt, little skin cells' needs... like angelic nurses rushing to help the wounded.
See, that is how I express personal experiences and feelings.
All you have to do is have a loved one dying of a blood disease, Leukemia...to know blood and breath are life...no Bible verses from 2-4000 yrs ago are necessary in this particular instance.

... just as the blood is applied to our thoughts and actions done aforetime.
What does that mean?
Thoughts and actions done in the past (aforetime)? Now that confused me.
Do you think or imagine blood being applied to your thoughts?
Is that what you do? Is that what people are meaning when they say that?
If so, I had no idea.

I'm trying to get a handle on this, is all. Sorry, if I'm being nitpicky..but until I understand why people pepper their words with 'in the blood'...I will be that way.

Rom 3:25 whom God set forth to be a propitiation, through faith, in his blood, to show his righteousness because of the passing over of the sins done aforetime, in the forbearance of God;

Yeah, I know, no posting Scripture. What's the fine?

Do you think or imagine blood being applied to your thoughts?

Is "sin" merely action? Or can it also be in thought?

Did not our parents tell us to think before we act. For our thoughts direct our actions. Thus, why a lobotomy works. Forehead and hand : thoughts and actions. That which we think upon, shall also be represented by our actions / responses.

The blood applied [symbolically] to the head and hand provides a "covering" from the destruction we deserve as a result of our thoughts and actions done aforetime, in the forbearance of "God".

Is that what you do? Is that what people are meaning when they say that?
If so, I had no idea.

That is my "perception" of the matter. I am sure that others also have good POV's, but I can not speak for them.

I think Christians who use this imagery are thinking about forgiveness and new life, which is the message of the crucifixion

I didn't think that was in question at all.

'symbolically'...I know it is not literal...do you imagine it for protection?
Thoughts and actions from the past? Or is it just words people say...if so...why?

It's like people saying, 'I'll pray for you." Do they? Really?
I do, I say the prayer that second.
So practically speaking ...how is blood symbolically applied to past thoughts and deeds...
or is it just 'a saying'.
Not being rude here....

Pretend i'm in junior high and want to become a Christian...how would it be explained
with no 3 syllable archaic words ...and thank you in advanced, not just Richard, anyone.

Why wouldn't someone praise Jesus's death for saving them...why does the blood
need to wash over them...in a modern day sentence to people?
Is it habit? Do preachers say it a lot so it rubs off? Or do people actually visualize blood
when they say it...I just don't understand.
There is power in saying his name...is it something like that?
I would never say 'blood' to anyone I know...I would say, amen, praise the Lord, have
a blessed day...
So it seems like a cult word...meaning 'only the inside crowd know what it means and use it'.

I know @"ByGrace" says it here ...I would like to know what it means when
she says it ...but it's late and it's Christmas. Ha! And I could have just asked her...
but I wanted all perspectives.
thanks

Thus, as a "covering", would it not also need to cover "thoughts" as you previously asked.

I guess one could consider it as "protection". What purpose did the blood serve at the time of the Exodus?

Exo 12:23 For YHVH will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when he seeth the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side-posts, YHVH will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you.

Which amoung us does not deserve to be "smitten" for our thoughts and actions.

Where do "words" come from? Thus from my "perspective", thoughts and actions, for words are an action so to speak. By which we also shall be judged [justified / condemned cf Mat 12:37].

From my "perspective", and this is a hard saying: Yes, from that past. As Jesus said: "go and sin no more", as the author of Hebrews warns: If we sin willfully, there remains no more sacrifice for sins.

I do not speak of unintentional or sins of ignorance. But of willful / intentional / high handed sin. For as the author of Hebrews also states: "after that we have received the knowledge of the truth".

It's like people saying, 'I'll pray for you." Do they? Really?
I do, I say the prayer that second.

Understood.

How is the heart circumcised?

When we "believe", when we truly receive "God", through faith, the blood of the Lamb is applied to us, and our hearts are circumcised.

Col 2:11 in whom ye were also circumcised with a circumcision not made with hands, in the putting off of the body of the flesh, in the circumcision of Christ;

Rom 2:29 but he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

Deu 30:6 And YHVH thy God will circumcise thy heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love YHVH thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live.

Pretend i'm in junior high and want to become a Christian...how would it be explained
with no 3 syllable archaic words ...and thank you in advanced, not just Richard, anyone.

Hopefully others shall chime in. For my views are not necessarily a reflection of most.

Why wouldn't someone praise Jesus's death for saving them...why does the blood
<snip>

Okay, I'm gonna be lawless here, a transgressor:

Rom 5:9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, shall we be saved from the wrath of God through him.

Eph 2:13 But now in Christ Jesus ye that once were far off are made nigh in the blood of Christ.

Heb 10:19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holy place by the blood of Jesus

Heb 13:12 Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people through his own blood ...

1Pe 1:19 but with precious blood, as of a lamb without spot, even the blood of Christ:

1 John 1:7 c ... and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

Or do people actually visualize blood
when they say it...I just don't understand.

I don't visualize such. But I can't speak for others.

Carmen has a song called "This Blood". Which back in the day, I thought was rather powerful. Haven't heard it in a long long time now.

There is power in saying his name...is it something like that?

IMO: Yes.

I know @"ByGrace" says it here ...I would like to know what it means when

I am sure @"ByGrace" shall provide a most excellent answer.

[No pressure there "ByGrace" <chuckle>]

Christianity has a long history of this kind of imagery. As a former Catholic, you are aware that Catholicism teaches the Real Presence in the Eucharist and early Christians were once viewed as cannibals who hung out in the Catacombs in Rome.

Medeival Catholics used to meditate on the short span of human life and the passion of Christ on the cross.

For the majority of time Judaism / Christianity have been around, people have been much more in tune with death and blood and sacrifice because it was ever present.

Today, we are separated from death - our own and our food, so it seems more shocking

Talkin to the choir here...what is the issue with thoughts...of course thoughts.
I know what blood did..actual blood in history...first born,Passover, etc.

How is the heart circumcised?
Another topic...don't ask me.

I'm wondering why people say it now and what it means to them when they say it.
I don't think I'm getting my ques across.

It's like asking, why do you say Have a nice day, I suppose.
I don't need a history of where it began and what nice means...I want to know why you say it...is it habit, do you mean it, how does it feel when you say it...
That is the simple analogy, I guess.
But thanks for your caring to post. You took a long time on that. ☺

I have offered you a "limited" explanation of what it means to me. Like I said, I ain't all that touchy feelly, so I can't really offer you as to how it "feels". But if it helps, I don't use such without a certain "reverence".

You're fine, I understand your question. I am just probably not the one to answer it.

Oh so you do say it...like, I'm so happy I'm washed in the blood.
And when you do, you feel reverence.
Thanks. ☺ That tells me 'something'....it doesn't mean I get why people say it...Blood is bloody...I don't really get why a person can't think it, feel it,
feel blessed by it....but rather says it out loud ...and to people it could turn off to Christianity.

Or maybe it is said more often to each other...tho, that has not been my exp...it can be written on placards and trucks.
Obviously, it is a phrase I don't quite get...the "phrase itself being said"...I understand the significance of blood in religion...esp Judaism and Christianity.
Come to think of it I have read atheists on Christian Forums call Christianity a blood religion.
I never got involved.

You ask good questions; I have never really thought about it. Growing up my step-father often killed and skinned animals in front of me. I didn't like it. I'm not a person that enjoys blood and gore.

God changed the perspective and meaning of blood from violence and death, to life. God has taken the brutialty out of it. Being cover in the blood of Christ is life. Being washed in His blood is life. I don't picture being cover in death but the opposite; freedom from death.

I am curious and only because of your admission to being bothered by all the talk of blood. Does it offend you that Jesus said you must drink His blood?
