Ok, so the blood of Jesus wasn't enough is what you're saying, Rom 4:7 o_O
It is the blood of Jesus that makes purification possible, is what I am saying. Purgatory came from the Jews. Martin Luther threw out the books containing the evidence because they contradicted his opinions. The doctrine developed in 1 Corinthians 3, and as all doctrines do, developed further over time. Development of doctrine does not mean change. The essential truths from the beginning are always there. The Bible is an example of development. There was no Bible as we know it for 350 years! During this time there were other developments that originated with Jesus and the Apostles. They needed time to clarify, especially in the face of heretics. Explaining the whole picture on a forum is like feeding a steak to a newborn.

You said, "It is the blood of Jesus that makes purification possible." Please explain what you mean by this.

If you mean that man has to purify himself by what he does. Then making it possible will not save anyone because sinful man will sin as long as he/she is in the flesh.

Now if you mean that Jesus' shed blood on the cross will purify all those that place their faith in His work on the cross then they are placing faith, trust, and confidence in Jesus' work on the cross. Salvation is the work of God, not mankind.

Ok, what are your thoughts on Eph 1:13-14 and Rom 8:33-39, just to clarify.

Eph 1:13-15
13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,
14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.
Prayer for Spiritual Wisdom 15 Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints,
NKJV

God, Himself, guarantees our salvation based upon our faith in His promise that He has purchased us by His shed blood on the cross. These verses speak for themselves. Who do you think has given us the scriptures? Man or God. If you say man, then who placed the sun and the Moon?

Rom 8:33-39
33 Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for his own? No one—for God himself has given us right standing with himself.
34 Who then will condemn us? No one—for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honor at God's right hand, pleading for us.
35 Can anything ever separate us from Christ's love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death?
36 (As the Scriptures say, "For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.")
37 No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.
38 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God's love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God's love.
39 No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Means what they say. Our victory is through faith in Jesus' work on the cross. Not on what we do but on what Jesus has already done for us.
