It's no wonder you people don't get along well. You are looking at the pages of the bible and reciting what you prefer to believe instead of what it says.
The bible has only a few verses speaking of hell and death. You can look them all up in less than a half hour. They do not say what many of you think they say.
Somebody quoted from Dante as if it were scripture! I can't maintain good manners!
"Hell" is an English word that translates the Greek word "Hades." The Greek word "Hades" translates the Hebrew word "Sheol." The definition of Sheol was simply the grave of mankind. It's where both righteous and unrighteous went to when they died but must be understood to be symbolic since man doesn't have a Soul that separates from the body and literally goes to a literal place called Sheol, or Hades or Hell. The scriptures say man is a Soul not that he has a Soul. At John 5:28,29 Jesus Christ says that the righteous and unrighteous will be resurrected from the memorial tomb. This term(memorial tomb) renders the Greek word mne•mei'-on, which comes from the verb "to remind," suggesting that the person who has died is remembered. So when Jesus was speaking of the resurrection of the dead, he's speaking of those who have died and are in God's memory. These are the ones who will be resurrected, those that I'm God's memory whether they are righteous or unrighteous. It's those that God doesn't remember who are eternally lost forever in non-existence.
