Who appreciates Christian hard rock?

My thing is I used to listen to hard rock, but not the kind that glorified Christ, now the stuff reminds me of someone from a long time about 30 plus years ago that I’m not to fond of.

Personally I don't any more because it's a pretty tough genre to glorify God with, as there has to be a very powerful anointing on it to overpower the music itself. Not since Stryper have I really heard hard rock that actually pulled it off, i.e. created genuine praise music out of heavy metal.

I do think that, as well as Stryper, Disciple has also produced some effective Christian hard rock.

I put in there not sure, as in rock isn't my taste in music, I like Country music, Celtic music can be pretty good as well, and Christian reggae can be pretty good too, and I also like a good instrumental as well.

But since the poll question is do you appreciate Christian Hard Rock?

Even though it's not my taste, if it's Christian lyrics and glorifies Jesus, well that is a good thing, I do appreciate it to a degree just for that and it's still better than some other genres.

As for secular music, country music is my favorite genre whether Christian or secular, but when it comes to secular, I don't always like the lyrics, but I like it for the tune, for the twang, for the melodies, Pedal Steel Guitars, Fiddles, Chicken picking country guitar riffs, banjos, mandolins, Dobro's, there's just something sweet about the country sound for me, and cannot forget to mention about the good Fishing songs, family songs, driving songs, war songs, patriotic songs, riding songs, rodeo songs and Jesus songs. ;)

I was thinking particularly of it as an effective means - among many others - communicating hard hitting Biblical lyrics.

I think this is something the Holy Spirit in a believer has to be the decider on... So to point one to their own inner witness is what’s called for.

I do agree that the question of musical taste is very subjective and personal.

Most of them, yes. But now I listen to choral symphonies and stuff. Needless to say, I've toned it down a little at this point in my life, LoL.

Yes. The band I was mentioning to Farouk actually played a part in my eventually turning to Christ. I played in heavy metal bands during that same time period, and Satan pretty much owned that world, or so I thought. Most people in that world only respect bands that are really good, and in the case of Stryper they actually were. Virtually everything we played was satanist-oriented, but I remember someone introducing us to Stryper and we were fairly impressed with their musicianship, but the shocker was that they were openly proclaiming Christ and Savior and Lord in a world where no Christians ever visited (It's kind of like a counter-culture or an underworld).

Anyway, I didn't get saved right away, but it had a serious impact on me at the time. It was like proof that Satan wasn't as "all-powerful" as I previously thought he was. :)

i am not a christian rock listener.. if i don't listen to southern gospel on occasion i like some contemporary. other than that i do like classic rock BTO bob seger etc

There have been several conversions tip Christ from within the music industry...some completely forsake their old l life straight away...others retain the genre but user Christian lyrics...others after a time give that away also. I have never really liked heavy metal, but do enjoy some of its close relatives...southern rock and Dixie.and many within those genres confess a faith in God, and reference that faith in dime of their lyrics...along with a love for whisky and weed.

we seen hank j.r in 1989 double eagle tour sawyer brown opened up they are good.. hank came out a real jerk 2 little girls dressed to the max .presented him flowers he thanked them. the punted the flowers off stage at the end of the concert he said God Bless --impressed not

Your post is very refreshing.
I do sometimes get flak because I suggest that artforms such as hard rock, faith based tattoos can be done in an attempt to honour the glory of God; but when comments such as yours are made by way of personal testimony I do feel encouraged and refreshed! :)
