Christ and Love...which rules are you going to obey? perhaps better said is, whose rules are you going to obey?
justbyfaith say no more? LOL! Good luck with that.Since you know nothing about this subject nor the judgment of the Lord, it is just as well that you say no more.
Not really. I summed up it in a few words:"And they are summed up in the Law of Christ, which is the Law of Love. So Christians are not lawless and devoid of the commandments of God. Indeed the Law of Love is even more stringent than the Law of Moses."Hi, Enoch, I see that you didn't quote any of Paul's epistles in this explanation, which means that you left out most of what the New Testament has to say about the Mosaic Law's relationship to Christians.
Tsk, tsk... Paul's epistles are necessary for understanding the Christian's relationship to the Mosaic Law. You cannot leave them out!Not really. I summed up it in a few words:"And they are summed up in the Law of Christ, which is the Law of Love. So Christians are not lawless and devoid of the commandments of God. Indeed the Law of Love is even more stringent than the Law of Moses."
Paul's epistles simply show Christians that they are not under the Old Covenant, but under the New Covenant, and the Law of Christ applies under the New Covenant.
One sentence should suffice: Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.(Rom 3:20). Less is more.Tisk, tisk... Paul's epistles are ESSENTIAL for understanding the Christian's relationship to the Mosaic Law. You cannot leave them out!
I could have quoted a lot more, but I quoted very little of Paul's volumes about the Law that shows that Christians are not under the Law. You quoted only one verse. One sentence should suffice: Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.(Rom 3:20). Less is more.
When Jesus spoke of "the Law and the Prophets" He was really speaking about the ENTIRE Old Testament (the Hebrew Tanakh). The Tanakh has three major divisions: (1)Torah (the Law), (2) Neviim (the Prophets, and (3) Ketuvim (the Psalms or Writings) also regarded as written by prophets. In the New Testament ”the Law and the Prophets” are coupled together some 12-13 times in a way that suggests their coupling to be of great significance.
What makes you think that I am suggesting that Christians are to "keep the Law" (the Law of Moses)? As I have already pointed out the Old Covenant has been replaced by the New Covenant. But I would say to you, go ahead and try to keep the Law. You will NOT have victory over sin!
It seems that you're combining part of, or a summary of, the Mosaic Law with grace. But any explanation of the Christian's relationship to the Mosaic Law would have to include an explanation of living under grace according to the Holy Spirit, which is what Paul explains in his epistles. What makes you think that I am suggesting that Christians are to "keep the Law" (the Law of Moses)? As I have already pointed out the Old Covenant has been replaced by the New Covenant.
On the other hand, if you are rejecting the Law of Christ, you have a big problem. The Law of Christ is also called the Royal Law, the Law of Liberty, or the Law of Love. And every Christian is under that Law -- AFTER SALVATION.
As to "victory over sin" God gives every believer the GIFT of the Holy Spirit, and it is by the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit that Christians can refuse to sin. Thus Paul says "Sin shall NOT have dominion over you".
Yes it is, but since Moses nobody runs it. Instead of the Israel misused the Law (2 Kings 18:1-4). The Israelites misused the Law as an oppressing tools of the high priest to the people (sinners), they lack of compassion. This wrong tendency had shown on how did the scribes and pharisee put the sinners to be stoned in front of Jesus (John 8:1-7). So, the law does not make the high priests to love the sinners, but it makes them to be more savage. This situation is the main concern why did the law brings all mankind into curse (Galatians 3:10-14).You have a very elementary understanding of the Ten Commandments. They are the foundation of Christ's Law of Love.
On the other hand, if you are rejecting the Law of Christ, you have a big problem. The Law of Christ is also called the Royal Law, the Law of Liberty, or the Law of Love. And every Christian is under that Law -- AFTER SALVATION.
That is incorrect. You should be aware that the Ten Commandments are embedded in the New Covenant, but written on hearts and minds by the Holy Spirit: For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: (Heb 8:10)Yes it is, but since Moses nobody runs it.
This is called quibbling over words. They both mean the same thing. This is just like tithing mint and cumin and ignoring the weightier matters of the Law.There is a difference between being under the law of Christ and being under the law to Christ. Look it up (1 Corinthians 9:21) in the kjv.
You keep talking about "the Mosaic Law" (613 commandments) while I am talking about the Ten Commandments (originally written on tablets of stone by the finger of God, and now written on hearts and minds by the Holy Spirit). It seems that you're combining part of, or a summary of, the Mosaic Law with grace.
Nope. It makes a difference in how you would look at it.This is called quibbling over words. They both mean the same thing. This is just like tithing mint and cumin and ignoring the weightier matters of the Law.
See this scriptures (John 7:14-24).That is incorrect. You should be aware that the Ten Commandments are embedded in the New Covenant, but written on hearts and minds by the Holy Spirit: For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: (Heb 8:10)
Christ summed up the Ten Commandments (also called "the Law") with the TWO greatest commandments, then summed up those two with the ONE great commandment, which is the Law of Love: This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. (John 15:12) And Paul tied this back to the Ten Commandments:
ROMANS 13: THE LAW OF LOVE
7 Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.
8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the Law.
9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the Law.
