There is a false teaching out there about a baptism with the Holy Ghost with evidence of tongues as if saved believers will not always have the Holy Spirit as promised upon their salvation.
Let's examine that with His help.
1 Corinthians 12:29 Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles? 30 Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?
Here we see that not all believers will speak with tongues and this is in lieu of the topic about the manifestations of the Spirit.
1 Corinthians 12:4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. 6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. 7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. 8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; 10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: 11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will. 12 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. 13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. 14 For the body is not one member, but many.
This proves that no saved believer needs to seek this baptism with the Holy Ghost with evidence of tongues when this gift of tongues is just one of the many gifts of the manifestation of the Spirit thus testifying that every believer is of the body of Christ by that one drink of the One Spirit.
To infer that believers do not always have the Holy Ghost when believing in Jesus Christ by certain events in the Book of Acts, are not really understanding what is happening there when the epistles as well as the gospel testify as to when a believer receives the Holy Spirit and that is at His salvation.
Romans 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. 16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: 17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.:
Romans 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
Here is proof as to when one receives the promise of the Holy Spirit and that is at our salvation.
Ephesians 1:11 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: 12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. 13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory. 15 Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints,
I now refer to Jesus own words as to when one is born again as born of the Spirit.
John 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. 8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.
That means believers can receive the promise of the Spirit by faith; not by sight; otherwise, one can look for signs to prove when a believer is born again and tongues are not used to serve as a sign for the believers as Paul trid to explain when giving the bottomline of what God's gift of tongues were but of other men's lips to speak unto the people to serve as a sign to the unbelievers..
1 Corinthians 14:20 Brethren, be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice be ye children, but in understanding be men. 21 In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord. 22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe
And so we go back to John 3rd chapter to continue how one receives the Holy Spirit to be born again.
9 Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be? 10 Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things? 11 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness. 12 If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things? 13 And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven. 14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: 15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
The born again experience which is the same event as being born of the Spirit is at the moment of our salvation when we believe in Jesus Christ.
People that preach this baptism with the Holy Spirit with evidence of tongues are preaching fear to saved believers saying that they do not have the Holy Ghost that they need this baptism with the Holy Ghost and that they will know they had received Him with the evidence of tongues; which is the same thing as denying the promise from the Father for knocking at the door of Jesus Christ.
They present another hope of our calling when they do that and by doing so; preach another gospel.
Nowhere does scripture supports the ideology that if a saved believer does not speak in tongues, he needs to have an infilling of the Holy Ghost and therefore needs to seek a baptism of the Holy Ghost with evidence of tongues.
I tell you the truth; while one poster on this forum preaches that not all believers have the Holy Ghost upon their salvation, and therefore a baptism with the Holy Ghost with evidence of tongues is needed, others elsewhere will preach that saved believers do have the Holy Spirit at their salvation and so preach "another" baptism with the Holy Ghost that comes with evidence of tongues.
Neither one is telling the truth.
Hebrews 11;1Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 2 For by it the elders obtained a good report...6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him..
Galatians 3:14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith....26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
May believers that are astray, chase no more after the Holy Ghost for a sign when He is in us as promised and return to their rest in Jesus Christ; their first love, and shun vain & profane babblings that does nothing but support the apostasy of the falling away from the faith in the churches today.
2 Corinthians 11:1 Would to God ye could bear with me a little in my folly: and indeed bear with me. 2 For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. 3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. 4 For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.
2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?
Did it say to test whethor or not Jesus Christ is in you by the sign of speaking in tongues? No. It does not.
John 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
Did Jesus promised that we would know the Holy Spirit in us by speaking in tongues? No He did not.
You really have to go to Him in prayer and trust Jesus Christ as your Good Shepherd in showing the truth in His words to expose this false preaching being given to saved believers that they need to seek a baptism with the Holy Ghost with evidence opf tongues because it is not of Him at all in no shape or form.
Let's examine that with His help.
