are you saying Christians are suppose to be selfish?
A Christian is supposed to put God first. Now that doesn't remotely mean don't take care of yourself (after all God WANTS you to take care of yourself).

Now, I would say that there is nothing inherently selfish about celebrating. In fact, it can be a very unselfish thing when we are celebrating someone else-- like celebrating Christ.

i know this sounds weird, but imo contemplate that nothing, not a single thing that you believe, is true,
at least in the manner that you believe it. i suggest this bc it is very productive imo

Perhaps that is a good starting point, like clearing the ground on which to build a foundation. However once the foundation is laid firmly I see no value in questioning it.

i understand, and imo i would just reflect on the hordes of believers all singing "when we all get to heaven" with complete confidence in their foundation, ok. If the foundation is truly firm it won't crack, it won't even chip, right

Even so! Getting the foundation exactly as it should be could be a difficult thing for people who have built a whole lot on top of it already. But... nothing is impossible for God.

man, they get a lot of things right imo, but specific to your Q no birthday celebrations, right, no consumer Christmas, etc

imo the intent is wholesome enough and prolly even mostly effective, just has some unintended consequences prolly

what's wrong with that and do you hate dinner parties and jw anything

Many years ago...I got to the point of being fed up with everyone trying to say " this is right and this is wrong" ( Much like on this Forum Site :D )

So I said to the Lord...please clear my mind and all my preconceived, preprogramed understanding, and help me to read the bible as if no man or teacher had ever told me anything... please be my Teacher.

It was a hard exercise...so much of man teaching had soaked into me. ( Not saying it was all wrong) I still try to read the word that way..and stay fresh...but I find my brain goes down the same old grooves if I don't watch it. :)

not at all, ok, and i'm sure there were other joyful occasions, too? yet here you are.
You come from what many would consider an extreme and isolationist nation ok, even if it seems totally normal to you now
add to that that you are 17 and entering a transition phase anyway.
so really i'm just trying to offer you some other perspectives so that you might make your own choices

my personal belief is that you live in fear in a nazi death camp ok, but see that won't serve you much i guess
so, to address what might be wrong with the unintended consequences, in an unbiased statement, i would say if you want to remain a JW you might mitigate for the schizophrenia that accompanies it, and if you don't want to remain a JW run. What do you want to do?

I see he is making some progress for now just by reading the bible and taking note of things God brings to his mind. We need to each follow the leading of the Holy Spirit and not jump the gun and do things of our own strength. Course it is helpful to be a born again believer.

There is nothing stopping Michael from believing Jesus is the son of God for the forgiveness of sins from his current place. Afterall many Muslims have come to believe from similar circumstances, though if they are found out they risk death.

imo that is about the worst possible state one could imagine themselves being in i guess. Sounds good though, accepting Christ with your mouth; i guess we even have Scripture to that effect huh

 Muslims are told many times in the Qur'an to follow Christ, and i doubt a Christian converting to Islam in Arkansas or wherever would fair any better, do you? Plenty of Muslims in the kingdom forrest, prolly even some Romans i guess huh, centurions or whatever?

"I have not found such great faith with anyone in Israel, and let Me tell you that many shall come from east and west and recline with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the Kingdom of heaven"

@Mister Michael some people try and make this so complicated. Before you read the Bible, pray that God would open up your eyes and heart to understand His Word and to make things clear to you. If you are truly seeking God you will find Him. Spend time reading the Word and ask God to reveal things to you and feel free to eat while you're at it, get a bucket of fried chicken and a coke and press towards God.

Hebrews 11:7 - Now without faith it is impossible to please God, for the one who draw near to Him must believe that He exists and rewards those who seek Him

Goodness people, if I was you Michael I'd feel more confused too by the answers you're getting. I'll be praying for you and that God will move upon your heart as you are searching.

I still recommend he fast, but perhaps now is not the best time.
