Our own righteousness as filthy rags... but what about Acts 2:38.. what you are doing about Acts 2:38
38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
We have to repent and we have to stand in the water to be baptized but GOD will be the one who will forgive and wash away our sins and gives us the Holy Ghost...

Sanctification follows justification. It begins with believer's baptism, and (ideally) continues until death or the Rapture. That is what it means to grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Sanctification can be completed in this life (i.e. to be sanctified wholly). 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 (kjv), Hebrews 10:10, Hebrews 10:14, 1 John 3:9 (kjv), 2 Peter 1:10 (kjv), 1 John 2:10, Jude 1:24 (kjv), Titus 2:14, Matthew 1:21, etc.

What are going to do about the above scripture?
God will give the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in other tongues....
See also Acts of the Apostles 5:32.

How much confusion and disagreement would an unbeliever searching for God find in this

20Therefore we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making His appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ: Be reconciled to God.
Ye but there are not to many wise men, because wisdom comes from God and few will go to Him to get it. I do love your posts.

God bless

Titus 3:8 KJV
This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.

How much confusion and disagreement would an unbeliever searching for God find in this discussion, indeed on any Christian "forum"? How much of the love of God? After reading all posts they would indeed be perplexed. The simplicity of the gospel got lost along the way.
I do like a good, simple consideration of John 3.16, which contains a wonderful summary of the Gospel! :)

We are talking about the plan of salvation. You can find how the saints of the original church were saved in the Book of ACTS. This the book of how the church was started with the first message of salvation preached by Peter on the Day of Pentecost when they all got the Holy Ghost. Later through the time church spread through the region and all over the globe but the message of salvation was never changed. Books from Romans - all the way down till Revelation were written many times specifically to the saints that were already repented, baptized in Jesus name and received the Holy Ghost.
In Acts 2.41 people were baptized as a symbol because they believed; because they had already gladly received his word; they were not baptized in order to become believers.

Baptism is an important symbol, yes.

You cannot approach God or receive anything from God without faith... IT is foundation
So.. it starts by GRACE (unmerited favor of God)... grace is a teacher... ... then comes FAITH (we got to believe in order to receive anything from God) then comes CONFESSION (confessing our sins to God) then comes REPENTANCE (asking God to forgive us)
then BAPTISM (washing away) then Holy Ghost (with evidence of speaking in tongues Acts 2:1-4, Acts 10, Acts 19, etc...) then lving a Holy and separated life...
ALL of this has to have FAITH but without works FAITH is dead...
God bless.

To whom does God extend his grace?

Mark 16:16
16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
John 3:5
5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

TB,

Quoting verses proves nothing - without interpretation.

Mark 16:16 is not regarded by most language authorities as belonging in the canon of Scripture, hence the statement after Mark 16:8 in...

NIV: 'The earliest manuscripts and some other ancient witnesses do not have verses 9–20'.

ESV: 'Some of the earliest manuscripts do not include 16:9-20'.

NASB: 'Later mss add vv 9-20'.

Therefore, it it questionable whether Mk 16:16 should be included in Scripture.

When you quoted John 3:5, were you using 'born of water and of the Spirit' to support baptismal regeneration and the need for baptism to determine a person is saved?

Ephesians 5 speaks of 'washing of water by the word'; this doesn't really refer to baptism; rather, it indicated the cleansing effect of the Word of God.

Refers to the new birth; I don't see baptism there; there is the cleansing power of the Scriptures also.

farouk,

Why or why not? How is baptismal regeneration excluded and the cleansing power of Scriptures included, especially when nothing about Scripture is in the context and being born from above/born again is there in John 3:3.

Since he spoke this to Nicodemus, a leader of the Jews, and Jesus said he should surely know what Jesus was talking about (presumably referring to the OT), it seems most likely to me that the answer to this issue comes through similar language in the OT.

Perhaps I'm wrong in my understanding.

as soon as someone reports you for denying the cross you will not even be able to post as a Christian here anymore i guess
