I believe I agree with you. I could never grasp the Holy Spirit being separate. I always thought I could somewhat grasp a two person thought of God (although I personally think of God and Jesus as one) but it always fell apart for me when trying to consider the Holy Spirit as different than God, who is Spirit.

I began to skip over your posts a long time ago because I didn't like the way you spoke to others. I will stop skipping them. :)

Which wasn't meant as a dig at you but was rather to say you seem to have grown more patient and gentle in your speech than a few years ago.

@stunnedbygrace. take your time and study this, and please ask question if need be.

to understand the "us" and the "our" we need to go back to the beginning. Genesis 1:26 "And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

Now, listen carefully as to how the US and the OUR turn to "HIS" and to "HE".

Genesis 1:27 "So God created man in his [own] image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

did you notice how the "us" and the "our" in verse 26 which are plural desiginations, turned to "his" and "he" in verse 27 which are single Desiginations. please re-read those two verses again.

now, why did God say "US" and "OUR" in verse 26, but "HIm" and "He" in verse 27. answer, one word ...... "Another". what do we mean? Adam the man was one person, who was made into two persons. for the definition of Adam/man is "ANOTHER" of oneself.
H120 אָדָם 'adam (aw-dawm') n-m.
ruddy i.e. a human being (an individual or the species, mankind, etc.).
[from H119]
KJV: X another, + hypocrite, + common sort, X low, man (mean, of low degree), person.

see how the kjv can translate Adam ... "another" of himself which is another MAN ... the Woman. for she came out of man.

NOW, now, let's get the understanding of God as "another" of himself. special notice, the woman is separate and distinct from the man, but they are of one source. supportive scripture, Genesis 2:23 "And Adam said, This [is] now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man". ok, good so far. that's separate and distinct ... two. in the hebrew this is called an echad strong #H259. two of the same as one. but in God case who is "a" Spirit, God is "another of himself in flesh which was to come. scripture, Romans 5:14 "Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.

that term "figure" here is IMAGE. what was to come was God in flesh. but God is one Person. so how did God come in flesh and still be in Spirit form? answer, he "shared" himself in flesh, the same Spirit, by sharing he is not distinct, nor separate :). well how was this done .... answer, by "differentiation". let's make it plain to understand .... "sharing". God the Holy Spirit shared himself in flesh. or he is the "ANOTHER" or the IMAGE of himself in flesh. well is he like Adam and Eve seperate and distinct ... NO. for in the Greek there is a word that describe this process of differentiation in God it is G243 allos. listen to the definition. Allos expresses a numerical difference and denotes another of the same sort". two, but the same. sound just like adam and eve right? WRONG, because Adam and Eve was flesh and bone, God is a Spirit. so do we have two Spirit.... again NO, the same Spirit, only Shared in flesh and blood. (can you see it now). let the scriptures speak.

Philippians 2:6 "Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God". so the nature of Jesus is the same "equal" nature of the Spirit whom you call God. scriprure, Isaiah 40:25 "To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One". answer no one, so the Spirit in the flesh is the same Spirit without flesh. for the term "form" here is NATURE,
G3444 μορφή morphe (mor-fee') n.
1. form.
2. (intrinsically) fundamental nature.
[perhaps from the base of G3313 (through the idea of adjustment of parts)]
KJV: form
Root(s): G3313

notice the root of this word, it's
G3313 μέρος meros (me'-ros) n.
1. a portion (i.e. an amount allotted, a part of something).
2. a part.

another word for "portion" is "SHARE". notice definition #2. "Part", which is the Hebrew echad. by being the "SHARE" of God he is "EQUAL" with him, not to him, but with. for being equal "to" indicate a separate and distinct person ... see why the verse says "EQUAL WITH" and not "EQUAL TO". just as John 1:1 "WITH" "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God". with God? yes meaning God in the SHARE or the IMAGE to Come, hence the "us" and the "our" in Genesis 1:26 & 27.

we'll let you digest this for now. study it, and please ask questions.

so the Father, ... title of the same one Spirit is the source of the numerical difference of himself in flesh. God came in flesh, hence the "differentiation" of God as the "Another" of his "OWN" self. supportive scripture once again, Isaiah 63:5 "And I looked, and [there was] none to help; and I wondered that [there was] none to uphold: therefore mine own arm brought salvation unto me; and my fury, it upheld me". his OWN ARM.

@Pearl and
first thanks for the reply, and the concern question. we will not argue, but exchange information... ok.

let's take this one step at a time, ok. Isaiah 9:6 "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace".
Is this verse refering to one or three person(s)? lets just talk for a moment.

PICJAG.

No 101, we will not at all argue, lol. The way I see it is that, our Counselor IS The Holy Spirit? Either way it should not matter to any who believe in the Trinity and that Jesus IS God ♥
John 14:26-28
26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.
In His Name,
nancy

first thanks for the response. now follow us. John 14:16 "And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever". here "comforter" is the (Counsellor), correct. another comforter ... when was there a Counsellor/comforter before? scripture. Luke 2:25 "And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name [was] Simeon; and the same man [was] just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him".

this word "consolation" here in Luke is,
G3874 παράκλησις paraklesis (pa-ra'-klee-sis) n.
1. an imploration, entreaty (urgent request (for mercy or help)).
2. an exhortation (urgent counsel, encouragement, or caution).
3. a comfort, solace.
[from G3870]
KJV: comfort, consolation, exhortation, intreaty

one who gives comfort is a "comforter. one who give help is a "helper". now listen carefully. one who give counsel is a "ADVOCATE". in legal terms "consul "for the defence or a "MEDIATOR". now 1 John 2:1 "My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

what do Advocate mean, it's the Greek word,
G3875 παράκλητος parakletos (pa-ra'-klee-tos) n.
1. (properly) one called near (to give help).
2. an intercessor (one who entreats of behalf of another).
3. a comforter.
[(not given)]F
KJV: advocate,comforter

yes, Jesus the Christ is the Holy Spirit in Flesh.

notice, G3875 παράκλητος parakletos (pa-ra'-klee-tos) n is the same in John 14:16 as here in 1 John 2:1.

THE SAME ONE PERSON, ONLY SHARED IN FLESH. see it now?.

Romans 1:19 "Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed [it] unto them.

Romans 1:20 "For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, [even] his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

there is no excuse not to know. the Godhead is not a mystery, only if you make it a mystery. the scriptures are clear.

let us make it very, very, simple. God who is "a" Spirit, the Holy Spirit is only one person who holds two titles. Father without flesh & blood, and Son with flesh & blood. but now glorified, wirh flesh but no blood.

So don't you believe in the three in one Godhead, the Holy Trinity? Sounds like you don't.

no, I believe what the Lord Jesus taugh. I believe what is taught in the bible. the same as to what the apostle and the church disciples believed. "Diversified Oneness". and this is no new doctrine, it's in the bible.

PICJAG,
OK, no wonder we don't agree then as I do believe in the three in one Godhead: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. But I know there are those that don't so we'll just have to move on.

That is certainly not what the Bible, nor Christ, nor the apostles taught. You have manufactured your own doctrine, and refuse to give it up, even after many Scriptures have been presented.

Thank you! I'm in my second reading of this and stopped to get a thought down that popped up in the first reading but then I forgot, but then it popped up in the second reading too! The "US" is...oh geez, I can't explain it...never mind...but wow!

I enjoyed reading that. It never really bothered me that I saw that God was the Holy Spirit and that I got yelled at a lot when I said the Holy Spirit was not one Spirit and God another Spirit, but God just WAS the Holy Spirit, but I learned to just leave it alone for the most part. As I said, the only thing I will vociferously oppose is when someone like APAK says that Jesus is not God.

@brakelite and @"ByGrace" I was going to take a break. And I did. The first thing I delved into showed me that the conversation we were having is actually one that theologians have wrestled with, under the category of Christology.

I read many articles but chose this one because of the easy way the author writes. I thought you guys might like to read it.

www.crossway.org/articles/could-christ-have-sinned/
Okay, I read that article, and while there is some that I can agree with, I would like you to take this into account.
Correctly understood, the trinity doctrine teaches that it was not the pre-existent divine Son of God who died at Calvary but only human nature. This is because trinitarianism teaches that when Jesus died, the personage of the divine Son of God was still very much ‘alive’ in His divinity whilst the truth of the matter is He was decidedly dead in His humanity.

In becoming incarnate, Christ had surrendered His divinity to His humanity, which the article agrees with. This is why He could not awake Himself from death. He needed someone other than Himself (namely the Father) to do this for Him. Like everyone else in death, the Son of God did not know anything, neither could He experience anything. He was inanimate -‘asleep’ - awaiting a resurrection. Unfortunately, a decidedly incorrect understanding of the state of death gives people today a skewed perspective on the death of Jesus.

If the Father had not awoken (called) His Son from death then today He would still be in the tomb. This is the same as would have happened to Him if He had sinned – meaning that God would have left Him dead in the tomb forever – which is something that our Heavenly Father would have needed to live with forever. Allowing His Son to be made flesh did involve a tremendous risk. This reveals how much He loves us.

It must also be said that if the divine Son of God did not die at Calvary, then as an atonement for sin, our fallen world would only have a human sacrifice and not one that is divine. A human sacrifice, no matter how perfect, could not atone.

@101G When I read John 3:16 and learn of the marvelous revelation that God gave His only begotten Son to humanity, I believe God had a Son to give.

Mmm...I don't know...John said: He existed before I did. And Jesus Himself said: before Abraham was born, I am.

I don't fully comprehend it all just as no man does. And I'm fine with you thinking God is three distinct...parts. I don't happen to see or grasp that. To me, Jesus, God and the Holy Spirit are just...God. And in fact, I can NOT grasp God, who IS Spirit, as being "distinct" from The Holy Spirit. It will never make sense to me. And I don't think God is distressed by this. I think men get distressed by it though.

Well Said Stunned by Grace. God sent Jesus to die as when people on the earth see Jesus, they see God incarnate and Holy Spirit together all around. Read John 3:16-17!
