"As a sociologist who has taught Criminology and written about mass shootings, it is distressing to listen to all the chatter about Republicans and Democrats being blamed for the mass shootings in El Paso and Dayton. Most of the talk is pure bunk. At the heart of the problem are what I call the three “B’s”: beliefs, bonds, and boundaries.

It is not people of faith who are the most likely to go on a shooting rampage; it is those who have no religious convictions. This does not mean that simply being an agnostic or an atheist is sufficient to cause someone to become a mass murderer. That’s nonsense. But to discount the role of religion in examining the lives of young men who are socially dysfunctional is also nonsense, and this is especially true of mass murderers..."

Thanks Stranger, that's helpful to know because I thought that anyone could just go into a shop and buy a gun of any kind, that's certainly the impression I had based on what is relayed, so is that not true ?
Are those rules universal throughout the country, or do they vary from state to state.
So do you have to have a gun licence ?
Rita

You can’t go into a shop and buy a gun immediately, but you can go to a gun show or buy a gun from another person immediately

It should be the job of the media to correct all the nonsense that is being broadcast. Instead they are the prime offenders in broadcasting Fake News, and this is another example of the nonsense being presented to the America public. But it is the responsibility of the public to boycott all this idiotic talk also.

Mass shootings by crazy individuals are just that. Nuts going on a rampage, then shooting themselves (instead of first shooting themselves in the foot, and then asking to be locked up).

As to religion ask the *holy warriors* -- the Jihadists -- how they plan to enter Paradise after a bout of butchery.

That's a lie from 'golden aspen'. You can go into any gun shop and dealer and buy a gun immediately. It takes all of twenty minutes. But, you just need to fill out the forms and pass the background check. Twenty minutes later you walk out with a gun.

Of course if you are not qualified, then you cannot buy a gun from a dealer.

You can buy a gun from a private individual at a gun show without the background check. Just like you can from any individual. But the gun shows are full of dealers. Not private individuals.

The point is the gun shows are full of dealers, not private individuals.

'golden aspen' just shows his ignorance about guns. Or, he would rather lie about guns. I think both are in play here.

Hi Rita.
I heard from niece today...it sounds like you have your plate full with problems over there? You can tell me if she is exaggerating or not...she lives up in Manchester. ( what or where is WB , any idea?)

This is her email....
< What can I tell you!? Your hair will curl! We're feeling horrified and amazed too, and we have a lot on our plates at the minute, that is the British people.

We're flooded seriously. Scotland - Glasgow = Underwater.
Railways underwater, Whaley Bridge evacuated before they go to a watery Aberfan. The dam wall broke through which is old Victorian and water flowed towards WB onto the flood plane.
People were away from home for ages. Police/Fire men nationwide/Environment agency guarded the empty village and sent drones up looking for the looters. Anyone on the street, that was not a journalist were arrested. The whole of WB hit Chapel en le Frith.
One member of the family eventually could go back for 15 mins to get animals etc but the Police were outside the houses ready to blast the horn and get the people running letting them know they'd had a blast of the air raid horn on their radios that the entire dam had finally broken and was continuing to descend to an ex village.
The RAF remembered working around the clock ditching stone/agregate/sand in huge bags onto the dam.

Stockport/Bramwell, /Poynton and various places went underwater entirely.

Planes couldn't fly and still can't! Water got over the M-Way and you could see the roof of cars as rain fell for 2 days, a months worth fell. Days later 4 months worth fell in an hour and so on!

Now we have nationwide flooding and in the last few hours, severe serious power cuts. hospitals/offices/rail etc all blacked out. Our stables could go any time! we have severe rain, thunder and wind that could knock a double decker bus over! Hot air balloons and kite festivals, music festivals are cancelled. People a told over and over..."if the journey isn't necessary, don't go out!"

A 17 year old went to the Tate Modern and on the 10th floor, he grabbed a 6 year old stranger from his mothers arms and threw him over the balcony to his death but luckily a building was nearby which broke the fall and he had a massive bleed to his brain with fractured arms and legs and spine. The place went into lockdown and a hellicopter took the unconscious boy to hospital. He's now woken up but is critical.

Today, a Police officer stopped a car with no insurance and got stabbed by a pakistani with a machete. The police officer tasered the thug but as he was stabbed in the head, he was in a bad way. Other Police turned up as he'd called an ambulance and they thought he'd died. There was blood all over the road. The Pakistani minister said she was thinking of him.

The cards in the shops here are really rude now, or foreign.
They say things like f-you! Or have a f -ing happy birthday and that sort of thing , or very sexual. We have swearing films now all the time, and comedians are swearing ...but we don't watch we have to turn it of quickly. This is just our news round the clock.
Old people have to do without now! They now have to pay for their TV licences forever! They have to do without cold weather payments and bus passes and can't access medicine and hospital any more!

People either never retire or retire at 70. Old people still have to work to provide. Pensions have got so tiny.

This is all in the last few weeks since I last wrote... ~We're still watching the floods and the power cuts and the wind.
Labour are going to try to start a coup. The whole country has gone to the dogs... but I guess it is all over the world now..a crazy world. >

England is a lovely, beautiful place, ... to be FROM!!
We used to go back every 2 years...since 1981
But we haven't been back for about 15 years now...the last time I was so very sad...it was no longer the England that I knew and remembered. :(

I guess if you live there all the time...it has just come on gradually...but for us who hadn't been back for 4 years it was a shock.
I can't go there back again...I'd rather keep my memories.

Yes, they have had a lot of rain - and the dam situation was an issue, not sure about whole towns going under water- not heard that, or seen that on any news reports ( but I may have missed it ! )
The policeman, yes that was sad, And the young boy being thrown by a 17 year old ( I think maybe that was due to mental illness, but won't know for sure until the trial.
British airways had an IT issue, which halted a lot of planes, and yesterday a massive power cut hit a large area. Altogether it sounds bad, and this country has changed, but I think it would be the same wherever you went and had not been their for awhile. We know society has changed, and with everyone relying on computers these days, they are bound to hit hard when issues arise. The dam was due to ' old age '
Today it is more like the middle of Autumn - high winds and rain, but our summers are always changeable - and we need the rain after all the dry spells last month.
It's like the news, if you put all the bad together, it sounds awful, but it's not all bad over here xx

I do agree that the problem is ' people ' but I honestly do not understand why anyone would need assault rifles, that is the side of the argument about gun control that I don't understand. I guess it's harder for me to understand because we don't have the same openness to guns in the uk , and there are strict laws about buying them.
Why do you need assault rifles ?
I get why you would need other types of guns, and why it would be impossible not to have them, it's just the assault weapons that baffle me
Rita

But what constitutes an assault rifle? AR-15 aren't assault rifles. It may have the look of one, but it only shoots one shell at a time. If it shoots more than one at a time? Then it has been altered and that is a felony. But AR-15's are not assault weapons.

According to this article, many more are killed with handguns than rifles, which the leftists want to take from us. If they take them away, next will be handguns.

Disarming the populace is NOT the answer.

In the U.S., statistics show that about five times as many people are murdered with knives and other cutting instruments as with rifles/shotguns. The liberals are already talking about "knife control". Since a skilled assassin can murder someone with a pencil, should we have "pencil control" after that? How many times do we have to tell the anti-gun people that our problem is NOT weapons? Almost anything can be used as a weapon. A truck was used to murder 86 people in Nice, France. Truck control?

Our problem is murderers
and that is because there is little "fear of God" in the land. Does a woman really have a "right to choose" the murder of her child? If it is her "right" then the question could be asked, why does that "right" stop at birth? If she has that "right" then do others have the "right to choose" to murder older humans?

God prohibited murder from Noah's day--well before He prohibited it formally in the Ten Commandments. Why should it surprise us that the wholesale murder of infants in the womb has been accompanied by murders in the streets? There has always been a high murder rate where there is little regard for the sanctity of human life. The moral alternative is a calling of the people back to God and ending the murder of the innocents in the womb along with the teaching of the sanctity of human life. The evil alternative is a police state where the government makes slaves of the people--as in China. In China, the state takes on the function of murdering innocent citizens as they will soon do to those pressing for democratic freedoms in Hong Kong.

In New Jersey, it's near impossible to get a permit, let alone buy a gun, unless you buy it illegally, then if you get caught, you're responsible for every crime committed on that gun if you get caught with it and they run a ballistics test on it.

Hi Soveriegn grace ,
Okay, that's an interesting point, once again it's based on the info within the reports. Okay, forgive my naivity , but doesn't AR stand for assault rifle !?
I have very little knowledge about guns , so if they say ' assault rifle ' and convey that it enables more people to be shot , then I am going to draw conclusions that it's more powerful that an ordinary rifle.
