Alright this thread is for others like myself who feared (I somewhat still fear) that they might have accidentally blasphemed against the Holy Spirit. That means hardening your heart and rejecting Christ right, not accidentally thinking things against the Holy Spirit or perhaps that Jesus wasn't really God and that He was of the devil. (I repented after thinking these thoughts that I most certainly did not mean and I can't help but still being a bit worried. I think if I'm worried about it I didn't commit the unforgivable sin though right?)

You can't accidentally commit Blasphemy against God's Holy Spirit. Blasphemy against God's Holy Spirit is something you do knowingly, willfully. The Holy Spirit or active force emanates from God and is intimately connected with God’s person, Jesus spoke of “blasphemy against the spirit.” This is stated to be the unforgivable sin. (Mt.12:31; Mr.3:28,29; Lu.12:10)Blasphemy is shown to originate within one’s heart (Mt.15:19; Mr.7:21,22); hence the heart condition, manifest in the willfulness involved, must relate to such blasphemy against the spirit. The incident that led to Jesus’ statement concerning the unpardonableness of such sin demonstrates that it refers to opposing the operation of God’s spirit. This would not be because of deception, human weakness, or imperfection; but the opposition would be willful and deliberate. The Pharisees clearly saw God’s spirit at work in Jesus to accomplish good, yet for selfish reasons they attributed this power to Beelzebub, Satan the Devil, thereby blaspheming God’s holy spirit. Mt.12:22-32; Compare Heb.6:4-6; 10:26,27.

not trying to limit anyone or draw a line. Just an opinion but think 1 Timothy 1:20 Lexicon: Among these are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan, so that they will be taught not to blaspheme.

And: 1 Corinthians 5:5 To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

Both connect (possibly)to what He said in
Luke 16:9 Lexicon: "And I say to you, make friends for yourselves by means of the wealth of unrighteousness, so that when it fails, they will receive you into the eternal dwellings.

the question (I’m sorry I wasn't clear) was regarding “so that they will be taught not to blaspheme.” Taught of who? I’m embarrassed to ask but of satan or of God? It is the ‘whom I have handed over to satan’ There is a verse 1 Thessalonians 4:9 But as touching brotherly love ye need not that I write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another.

Been thinking about the “so that they will be taught not to blaspheme.” how can you be taught not to blaspheme when half the time most are not even sure what blaspheme is? Honestly, I don’t know for sure what it is ...does that mean I have more being taught not to do it?
Where is Satan? Who is he? Within us do we not have two opposing forces, one desiring to live toward what we were before we met the Lord and another desiring to become more like Jesus? When a person in a church group sins against people in the church and repents and is forgiven. That is a good thing. What if he does it again and again. Remember Peter's question to Jesus about how many times to forgive a person? Seven times, no seven times seventy... but, yes, but... what if the person is a rapist or a child molester? For the sake of those potential victims would it be wrong to put them out of the assembly effectively into the hands of Satan or the devil in themselves to protect those unable to defend themselves against him? Can such a person be forgiven by us, by God? Certainly, but when he has proven himself untrustworthy after his initial or even subsequent repentance...?

i have always believed B of HS was proclaiming a divine act of the Most High was a work of dark forces or Satan.

i think you would have to be a believer to commit this because you would hacve to know which is which. a non believer would not know the difference. the pharisees for example that committed this, they knew who Jesus was, they beared false witness anyway to protect their seats of power.

As I said before though I was a believer at the time,.. I was just upset with Him about something,.. but again looks like I didn't commit it after all. :D (And a true Christian can't commit it.)

We are all sensitive to doing the right thing when we begin to walk with God. If it isn't of faith, it's sin for us. This helps us to start walking consistently, and not have to constantly repent of our sins. We just keep to the right path as often as we can. The Holy Spirit is there to keep us in Jesus, so that God's presence will be a constant blessing to us.

Condemnation is a horrible thing. The only way to avoid it is to just constantly walk with the Lord, and do right as often as possible. It isn't a matter of losing our salvation. It's a matter of disappointing the Lord. If we become hard-hearted, we may lose our blessing and walk in a spiritually-dead state. That's not a satisfying life. Satisfaction comes from knowing the Lord is pleased with us.

My own experience is that no matter how right we seem to be, we can't hold on to a perfect state of existence. Things go south, and our shortcomings are exposed. Our temperament falls short.

It helps me personally to know that despite my imperfections, God remains steadfast in His love towards me. Eventually we learn how to walk with God every day without having to be perfect in everything we say and do. It's enough just to keep His love in our heart, and to do our best, in what we say and in what we do. We can't be Jesus, but we can certainly be like him. His presence in us is a free gift. He doesn't run away because we disappoint Him. It just seems that way for a time.

I guess I should have also realized that God doesn't want anybody to wind up in Hell, so why would He turn away a child who wants to come to Him and is truly sorry for their sin against Him?

I've had a couple messages from the Holy Spirit in the past ~50 years. If I rejected and ignored the direction I received from those messages then I might be guilty of denying the Holy Spirit. The Peace and Love from the Holy Spirit lasted for hours and was super powerful so there was no doubt about it being God's Holy Spirit. See Galatians 5:22-23.

The definition that Jesus gave was that attributing the work of the Holy Spirit to that of the devil was blasphemy against the Spirit. There is no other definition in Scripture, so unless a person is saying that an experience or action of the Holy Spirit is of the devil, they are not blaspheming the Spirit.

Of course, Ananias and Sapphira lost their lives because they lied to the Holy Spirit, so lying to the Spirit is a dangerous thing to do.

So, I wonder about all those professing Cessationist Christians who threw those with the Pentecostal experience because they said that speaking in tongues was of the devil? If the Pentecostal believers' tongues were genuinely of the Holy Spirit, then what will become of those religious people who accused them of being demon possessed? It seems that these Cessationists fit under Jesus' definition of blasphemy against the Spirit, and they may end up coming off second best in the Judgment.

Not all Cessationists accuse Pentecostals and Charismatics being of the devil, although one prominent Bible teacher accused the Corinthians of having a mixture involving demon involvement from their pagan background. This could be a veiled inplication that the Corinthians who spoke in tongues during services could have been demon inspired and not of the Holy Spirit. Yet such was not what Paul said, because at the start of 1 Corinthians he said that the Corinthians were not backward in any gift. He did not treat them as being inspired of the devil from their pagan background. So, generalising that because the Corinthians were corrupted by demonic paganism especially in their use of tongues in the services, and therefore Charismatics are doing the same, isn't that a kind of blasphemy against the Spirit - especially if the Charismatics in question are manifesting a genuine gift of the Spirit?

In summary, I believe that anyone who accuses Pentecostals and Charismatics of being demon possessed because they speak in tongues, is actually blaspheming the Holy Spirit and is in real danger of hellfire. Therefore anyone who makes such statements need to seriously repent and throw themselves on the mercy of God, that perhaps He may restore them through His grace, especially if they have made the statements through ignorance.

In total, it is a very dangerous thing to accuse any Spirit-filled person of being of the devil, because we cannot see into a person's heart, and we cannot judge a person just on outward appearances. Therefore, accusing a person who is speaking in tongues according to Paul's teaching in 1 Corinthians 14, that he is speaking through a demon spirit and not the Holy Spirit, just because the accuser is Cessationist in his view of the gifts, is actually an act of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, and is subject to the appropriate consequences.

you are right A_R. He draws you and if you don't resist he will change you into his image.....and if he will change you, he will translate you to be with him when the time comes......which, using earth years, is not far away.

I am regularly in awe of how patient and gentle he is and am progressively realising it is easier to be saved than lost providing I do not resist his drawing.

And just to reiterate, it is the resistance to his drawing and the insistence that the natural man's values are superior which the scripture calls 'blasphemy of the Holy Spirit'

To add to what @amadeus said, there are ex-satanists out there who have renounced their old ways, repented, turned to Jesus, they have been set free and delivered from the evil one and these people are forgiven, saved by the grace of God. Maybe these ex-satanists didn't go as far as the Pharisees in Matthew 12?

As we read the book of Matthew we see that the Pharisees commit the act of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, where did they cross the line? In verse 24.

Matthew 12:22-32
22 Then they brought him a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute, and Jesus healed him, so that he could both talk and see. 23 All the people were astonished and said, “Could this be the Son of David?”

24 But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, “It is only by Beelzebul, the prince of demons, that this fellow drives out demons.”

25 Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand. 26 If Satan drives out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then can his kingdom stand? 27 And if I drive out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your people drive them out? So then, they will be your judges. 28 But if it is by the Spirit of God that I drive out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.

29 “Or again, how can anyone enter a strong man’s house and carry off his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man? Then he can plunder his house.

30 “Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.31 And so I tell you, every kind of sin and slander can be forgiven, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven.32 Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come

To wrap this post up, I believe someone who has committed the act of Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit would not even want to repent, there hearts would be very hardened and stubborn like the Pharisees who committed the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit in Matthew chapter 12.

If someone wants to repent, then I believe they have not committed the act of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, if someone wants to turn to Jesus, I believe they have not committed the act of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.

We should remember many of those Pharisees in Jesus's time had hearts so hardened, they were so stubborn and stuck in their ways, that they even rejected Jesus as being the Messiah when they witnessed and heard of many miracles, they even had the Messiah right in front of their eyes, and they still did not believe and they continuously rejected Him.

Blasphemy of the holy Spirit, can only be committed by an unbeliever.

It is actually and literally the "unpardonable sin".

You cannot commit this if you are > Born again<, .....so never worry about this at all.
You cannot commit this if you are >Born again<, .....so never worry about this at all.
You cannot commit this if you are > Born again<, .....so never worry about this at all.

That is 100% untrue. I don't recall Jesus making any such stipulation, it was completly made up. I'd ask that the poster who makes that claim to prove it, please?

Again, the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit cannot be repeated today, although some people try. Jesus Christ is not on earth—He is seated at the right hand of God. No one can personally witness Jesus performing a miracle and then attribute that power to Satan instead of the Spirit.

Completely, and clearly made up. The blasphemy is not towards Jesus, it is against the Holy Spirit, so Jesus need not be present in order for it to be commited. Why would you make up such an obvious untruth, then try to teach it as the truth too these people?

Blasphemy of Holy Spirit is shown in these scriptures :

Matthew 11:18 (NIV)
For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon!’

Mark 3:20-22 (NIV)
20. Now Jesus went home, and a crowd gathered so that they were not able to eat.
21. When his family heard this they went out to restrain him, for they said, “He is out of his mind.”
22. The experts in the law who came down from Jerusalem said, “He is possessed by Beelzebul,” and, “By the ruler of demons he casts out demons.”

Luke 7:33 (NIV)
For John the Baptist has come eating no bread and drinking no wine, and you say, ‘He has a demon!’

John 7:19-20 (NIV)
19. Hasn’t Moses given you the law? Yet not one of you keeps the law! Why do you want to kill me?”
20. The crowd answered, “You’re possessed by a demon! Who is trying to kill you?”

John 8:48-49 (NIV)
48. The Judeans replied, “Aren’t we correct in saying that you are a Samaritan and are possessed by a demon?”
49. Jesus answered, “I am not possessed by a demon, but I honor my Father – and yet you dishonor me.

John 8:51-52 (NIV)
51. I tell you the solemn truth, if anyone obeys my teaching, he will never see death.”
52. Then the Judeans responded, “Now we know you’re possessed by a demon! Both Abraham and the prophets died, and yet you say, ‘If anyone obeys my teaching, he will never experience death.’

John 10:19-21 (NIV)
19. Another sharp division took place among the Jewish people because of these words.
20. Many of them were saying, “He is possessed by a demon and has lost his mind! Why do you listen to him?”
21. Others said, “These are not the words of someone possessed by a demon. A demon cannot cause the blind to see, can it?”

Why would you make up your own rules about this? So many people have been listening to hot shot preachers that try to explain away the seriousness of this blasphemy. These are likely the same preachers that teach OSAS or easy feel good religion.

Sugar coat Christianity and they will come.

I can only hope the folks here simply read their bible and if they dont know the definition of blasphemy, look in the dictionary. Its very simple, don't blaspheme the Holy Spirit. I have to also wonder what the penalty is for passing on lies about the bible, and their own made up wrong version of this?

Please stop adding to the bible, and listening to know it all preachers that try to explain away the harsh truths of the bible. That may fill their pews with people and their plates with money, and make them popular and well liked to tell people what they want to hear, but the lies can only harm them in the long run.

Hard to belive so many are so reckless with their words...dont you remember "Thou shalt not bear false witness"?

You think the Holy Spirit is an “active force” that “emanates from God”? What religion are you, Buddhist? The Holy Spirit is God—one of the three “Persons” of the Trinity.

I don't believe in no antichrist trinity doctrine. Those who believe in the Trinity doctrine deny that the Only Begotten Son of God is the Word who became human.
