Well think on it. Here is God, purest light, the creator of all things, perfect in very way, Mindfull all all that men do and think and ask, the creator of the heavens, the earth, and us His children, created in His image to love and be Gods friend, but we fell. and became as David put it" like filthy rags". Us man, walking around in a dustbag, for that is what our flesh is. un holy, no rightousness, not good, for there is none good but God, and yet God gave upp all He had, for a moment so He could walk amongst us, so that He could be tempted as us, so that He could reveal Himself to us, so that He could ultimately pay the price for our sins so that we could be redeemd back to Him,
Think on it, the best I could come up with, is ,

Imagine your father was a good king, lots of weath and palaces, servants, all he ever needed, all His needs taken care of, never having a want for He had it all. Then He has a child, "you", but you get kidnapped, and removed to a distant far off country, where the king is cruel, and harsh, never caring of your needs or desires, making you his slave to his every whim, where you toilet is the back of the room you sleep, wher you are always filthy and smell bad, then one day your father finds out where yoy are, so He gives up all He has, puts on the filtheiest rags He can find, jumps on the dirtiest ship He can get on to find you, Doing all this knowing that He will be dirty, smelly, probably get beaten, treated harshly, but not caring for His goal is to find you. The nwhen He does, He gives you a key, and says, " tell them all I have given you this Key and if any should follow they may too come for the door is open to all who are in prison", Then He rwturns waiting on you to make a decisiion to go back home.

Isnt He wonderfull, how could you turn Him down, He has already paid the price there is no more sacrifices that can finish what already is finished. Jesus said, that He came to set the prisoners free", He is the key let Him in, and be free from this world.

Isaiah 64:4
[sup]4[/sup] Since ancient times no one has heard,
no ear has perceived,
no eye has seen any God besides you,
who acts on behalf of those who wait for him.
[sup]5[/sup] You come to the help of those who gladly do right,
who remember your ways.
But when we continued to sin against them,
you were angry.
How then can we be saved?

Notice how there are those who wait for God. And God comes to help those who gladly do right. But when sinners continued to sin against God's ways, God was angry.

"You come to the help of those who gladly do right; who remember your ways."

There are those people who remember God’s ways.

Do you believe God says the actions of these people are filthy rags? Does God say these efforts to do what is right and remember God’s ways are filthy rags?

No. God says that He will come to help the righteous. God is not viewing their behavior as filthy rags.

[sup]6[/sup] All of us have become like one who is unclean,
and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags;

This is to say, they attempted to keep some parts of God’s Law, but their behavior is such that God will not accept their sacrifice. Let's say they go to the Temple to pray or to offer an animal, but then they sinned in other ways against what God tells them, like lying, etc.

[sup]7[/sup] No one calls on your name
or strives to lay hold of you;
for you have hidden your face from us
and have given us over to[sup][/sup] our sins.

There were many righteous people in the Old Testament, Noah, Abraham, Ezra, Nehemiah, Samuel, Job, and Daniel. God never said their righteous acts were like filthy rags.

And in Acts 10:34-35, Peter commented favorably on the righteous behavior of Cornelius...Then Peter began to speak: "I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism But accepts men from every nation who fear him and do what is right."

We understand that no one can save themself when they reject Jesus and try to live righteously. We know we were sinful at birth, sinful from the time we were conceived. We have inherited the guilt and disposition of Adam. We know there is salvation only through Jesus Christ. No one is without sin. We all have sinned and come short of the Glory of God.

It just seems that the scripture about filthy rags has been falsely used by Calvinists, to try to prove total depravity, and because of that, we miss the rest of the scriptures that prove we are not totally depraved....not totally...not totally depraved and beyond accepting Jesus. Again, or how else could there be any person at all ever called righteous in the Bible? How could it be said that Cornelius did right?

Hello 'mjrhealth'......What a lovely straight forward way to paint the picture..Ah yes, if we choose to see it with the eyes of a child, we would have no problem with this.....But unfortunately most do not, they look at it from their flesh, and what they think they can accomplish in their flesh, trying to make themselves presentable to God.
Salvation as a free gift, is beyond their understanding, their hearts having gone hard and cold because they refused the unconditional Love , which God is, as well as has.
By not receiving the Revelation of The Love of God, the love of God doesn't grow in them, only self-love and the ways of the world, with it's lust for vengeance, judgment punishment and rejection, everything God asks of us, to leave be, to let Him sort those things out His way.
Get to know Him, as one who HAS BEEN SET FREE, one who has been redeemed.

Thank you 'mjrhealth' very uplifting.
