Pretty much. I mean sometimes I may have a glass of wine or a beer but it is like maybe once or twice a year if that. I was never like a physically dependent alcoholic. I was more like a functioning alcoholic. The problem is that I used to chase the buzz until I was trashed, then I would keep drinking. Sometimes I blacked out.

I have no desire to be drink or be drunk now. None. So that helps. I think God just removed the cravings for it. Praise God!
@Mantis I don't drink alcohol at all, but this is simply a preference; I don't see it as a legalistic prohibition.

Nor do I think it is a legalistic prohibition. We have freedom in Christ. I think a lot of people think Christianity is some kind of boring sterile lifestyle, where we have no fun. I didn't lose anything but sin becoming a Christian. I mean what are you giving up? Lying, murder, rape, theft etc.

I don't think that's right. Some people lack the connections in the brain. Or there are other physiological factors.

Much love!
Do you recognise the mistakes you made in your rebuttal?

Hello, I.O.U,

Do you ever watch anything youtube channels about true crimes? Have watched many of them they are all interesting to listen to, some messed up things people do too. All depends on the circumstances, emotions, feelings, surroundings, whatever is going on in the mind of the person, how long have the thoughts been around, what were the parents like.

All I know in just something extra to add because your profile says Atheist, even though you are Atheist that does not bother me. The only extra thing would like to add is that when never knowing God or who Christ Jesus was, in my own life. Darkness was always around, and heavy weight was always on my shoulders, along with hate in my heart. (Just desired to share).

Thank you for your time,
With love in Christ,
Matthew G.
Not real darkness, metaphorical darkness, a darkness of the mind, a great weight of unknowing, and the fear growing, then I believed in Jesus and his light came, now I must share that light around.

How can you be an atheist and believe my testimony? It doesn't make sense. Either you believe in God or you just believe that I think I know God. If you believe me then you should not be an atheist. Jesus Christ is as real as you typing on this forum. I as well really don't care what you believe or don't believe in. It is totally logical to not believe in something or someone until you see and know. But as Christians we walk by faith not sight. God will let you know he is real if you want to know. Then you walk by faith. It is important to him that people put their full trust in him without seeing him. I don't know why that is so important to him but it is.
Believing itself does not come packaged in the human brain. Show me where it does, since you are so sure about human beings needing to believe for survival.

I am sorry if those who should be answering your question could not and so scorned you.

Christianity is based on historical fact, not on cleverly invented stories.
May I recomment the book by Lee Stobel, 'The Case for Christ.'
It is his investigation into the facts concerning Jesus, his death and resurrection. He started as an unbelieving atheist and ended up as a Christian, the facts are that compelling.

May I further suggest that you leave your current church and find one where they will answer your questions.
Lot's of religious organisations today are based on real spiritual teachers in history. So yeah, who cares.

I love the theme of light as portrayed in John's First Epistle...

I'm not trying to argue with you. I am just saying if Jesus revealed himself to you and you accepted his offer then you should change your profile from atheist too Christian! And if this is true then welcome to the family!

Still left without knowing how you perceive belief to be an essential apparatus for the human mind.

I don’t have any problem with belief. It is part of the human experience. As far as it being an essential apparatus for the human mind, you would have to ask God. I don’t really have an opinion on it.

Just a reframed picture of a cup card in the mythic deck of Greek mythology (Forbidden love and whatnot)

Okay, I remember playing Castlevania on the Gameboy Advanced and it had cool element cards you would collect through the game, and you saying Mythic Deck of Greek reminds me of that video game that was played long ago. That picture is interesting in itself, thought to ask you. Thank you for the response friend.

It's about now I'm wondering what we all think believing is.

We believe we are posting on a forum, right? Or we believe it's a delusion, but we believe something about this experience.

Much love!

Well this thread has been interesting…
Have you ever driven a car? If someone slams on their brakes in front of you, why do you bother to slam on your brakes?

Why don’t you go jump off a cliff. Is it because you believe doing so would be detrimental to your survival? Or is it because, nah, I just don’t feel like doing it?
