If someone bought me flowers, I'd want something I could put into the ground like a bush ...rose bush or azealia, etc. lol
But I don't do the traditional Christmas gift-buying and I never ask for anything for Christmas. I buy my kids things for their birthdays or give them money so they can get what they want. Sometimes my husband and I just hand them money when they come to visit if we have it...something to cover gas, food, and a little extra. Giving doesn't have to be centered around a holiday or birthday. Giving is a way of life....you see a need, and if you have something to fill the need, you give.
My oldest son is saving up for something specific, so I just give him money rather than buy something he may not need or want. And he doesn't have piercings. lol (Even if he did, I wouldn't buy him earrings. lol)
@TLHKAJ The spiritual basis for the subject of giving is really 2 Cortinthians 9.15, isn't it? "Thanks be unto God for His unspeakable gift."
"Blessed be God, our God,
Who gave for us His well-beloved Son,
The gift of gifts, all other gifts in one,
Blessed be God, our God." (Horatius Bonar)
I reckon at least
some of your son's contemporaries have in fact gotten earlobes shot through with a bit of jewelry...
(Young men and boys started doing it decades back already when their sisters ... and moms ... started putting doubles in each earlobe; it was then that some of the boys started doing one earlobe and moms ... often with doubles in both ears ... would allow it in the interests of fairness...)
