People on the moon dressed as Puritans and living a thousand years?
Anyone. Hello.
Actually funnily enough:
According to a Mormon-friendly and official Church-published source, Joseph Smith taught that the moon was inhabited by people that dressed like Quakers. With Philo Dibble, a close associate with Joseph Smith, as his source, Oliver B. Huntington wrote with significant detail:
"The inhabitants of the moon are more of a uniform size than the inhabitants of the earth, being about 6 feet in height. They dress very much like the Quaker style and are quite general in style or the one fashion of dress. They live to be very old; coming generally, near a thousand years. This is the description of them as given by Joseph the Seer, and he could 'See' whatever he asked the Father in the name of Jesus to see"1

The LDS church has to cover up a lot of embarrassing statements by their leader, especially seeing as he was an "apostle" and a "prophet" which implies a certain element of infallibility to what he says. Joseph Smith was a corrupt, philandering, lying con artist who said a not of crazy things to his followers who thought he could do no wrong. The modern LDS church, to gain respectability, denies virtually everything he said or taught.

actually modern lds are more likely to admit all JS and BY weird teachings because it is all available on the internet. nowadays they admit it and then dismiss it by talking about the poor education their leaders had and how God calls the humble to shame the proud

That's very true. Many Christians are guilty of making up what LDS believe based on obscure writings and records of what Smith or Young taught. Having spoken to them at length, they live a faith that's far more rational and less eccentric than the weirdness of the cult from which they ascended. They really do take the teachings of Smith with a grain of salt. I can tell you've actually spoken TO them instead of ABOUT them and you're far more educated on modern LDS beliefs.
