If you were to supply three readings from the bible for a funeral, which would you choose, and why? Obviously I'm not requesting readings that might have some special meaning for a particular person. I'm just curious to see if there are any passages of the bible that are particularly suited for funerals in general.

Off the top of my head, the raising of Lazarus seems appropriate, as well as perhaps the stories where Jesus meets up with people after the resurrection. We'd like to think something similar happens when we or a loved one dies, right? Any other ideas?

Job 19:25-27 KJV
[25] For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: [26] And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God: [27] Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me.

Precious in the sight of the Lord
is the death of his faithful servants.

Amazing verse, yes; and it's quoted in Handel's 'Messiah'....:)

Psalm 23 has always been a favourite at funerals.
