I'm afraid I don't know much about news media bias teams, either. I actually try to avoid the news. I think BBC, CBC, SkyNews, Reuters are fairly neutral, if that's even possible.
im not sure bias even comes into it, as we are not listening to a talking head, but a prof? And i guess you cant blame a news corp for monetizing their news either

i dont mean that, but the site setup itself, its basically all clickbait? my (older) ipad has frozen like five times tryna read it lol
basically forcing one to subscribe to read i guess
Yeah, I think that might be worse than bias. I'm kind of a techy guy (used to build all my computers) and I hate a website that tries to hold your computer hostage. I don't run Windows anymore, though, and that helps a lot.

There's monetizing and then there's monetizing. Some sites are just obnoxious. Of course Newsweek, being somewhat of an institution, might feel like we owe them something.

wadr this sure seems like the modus operendi of fear, fueled by the outside model of infection. We have defenses against those diseases that render a healthy person immune to them, so while social isolation might seem reasonable, the many examples of the socially isolated dying upon reintroduction argue against you imo.

no offense but imo a weak argument goes with a weak immune system maybe? But regardless, why not take steps to strengthen the immune system, just in case?

Couldn't have said that better Mark.

Yes Barny...it is hard but, I do like AP, Reuters and some of Al Jazeera...BBC as well as but not as often as NPR. My tv collects dust. Cable "news" is more opinion and division than anything. Plus, they HAVE to report on what the stations owners say as...it's all pay per view now, the real news has been cancelled!!!!

I'm a cord-cutter from WAY back (about 10 years now, I guess). All I get is Youtube (for which most outlets have a "channel") and whatever else I can get on my Roku box. We have a smartTV but we don't use the "smart" feature because it freezes up all the time. Reuters used to have an excellent Roku channel (my wife loved it--You could choose the length of your "latest news" report, e.g. 5-15-30 minutes).

Does anybody remember the Opioid Crisis? I guess it's all better now, now that we have COVID politics to deal with.

Lol...there will always be another "crisis" so our eyes are once again, looking in the wrong direction...and yeah, the Opiod crisis, ha! A joke really, it's only hurting those who are in 24/7 365 pain.
I also have a "Smart" tv, haha...thought I would buy one when I retired and, have very rarely watched a thing. I will watch Netflix or Pureflix movies on it once in a great while but, I do more reading and don't mind watching a late night movie with my laptop. Yes, many have been "cutting the cord". So, I bet, pretty soon if not already, everything streamed will cost us . They make it up somewhere and it will always be the public IMHO.
So, Reuters no longer has the channel then? :(

There are several threads that deal with covid 19. And I've read many more on Facebook... Watched numerous videos on you tube... Read blogs, articles, and news reports from both sides of the political divide, but haven't actually come across any that answers my question. People are dying no doubt. Many are getting sick, certainly. But I gotta ask...
Is covid 19 a genuine real new virus that had been scientifically analysed, separated, isolated and actually fully identified as a new virus? Yes, we have lockdowns. Yes, we have masks. We have social distancing. We have politicians speaking authoratitively, and not so much, from all manner of directions informing us that we need to do this and that to stay alive... We have doctor's and experts contradicting one another on the extent, rates of contact, death, hospitalisation, and myriad methods of avoidance, but it's it real? What scientific proof do we have that the virus is real... Because none of the above, no matter how convincing, is proof.
Anyone?

Virus- a microscopic angent that comes in contact with human or animal cells, and uses the cells as a host to reproduce.

(You can look-up and get amore specific scientific meaning).

Viruses are categorized by strength to cause damage, shapes, primary human/animal cells they attack, how they are transmitted.
There is some vaccines for particular Viruses...and no known Cures or methods to appease the symptoms of many viruses. Some patients may receive drugs for boosting their immune systems, fighting an infection, easing pain, discomfort...but many severe cases will end in a death directly related to: the Virus itself or its spin off Causing infections of surrounding tissues.

Covid- is a Type of Corona Virus.
Flu- is a Type of Influenzia Virus.

Covid & Flu has been around for eons.

When a new "strain" appears...that "strain's" "make-up"... is looked at, (Science/Biologists) collect facts about transmission, what is is affecting, compare to known facts of same types catalogued, how to Treat, Named with an identifier, etc.

Trump, a non-medical person, asked if the Covid19- could be treated with some sort of disinfectant...(and TO no surprise the Socialist Liberals, reported Trump was suggesting to induce People with Covid with a disinfectant...which is False. Asking is not suggesting).

The Fact is: Bacterial Infections can be Treated with Bacteria killing Agents...
Antibodies, Penicillin, Bleaches, Soap, etc.

A Virus is not treated/killed/destroyed with Bacteria killing Agents.

You can get a most exclusive understanding of Viruses by looking up:
Science the 12 deadliest viruses
It will reveal live-Science, information, photos.

There is also- great information with Stansberry Research (paid subscription, reports) about how this virus promoted as a pandemic is about political social gains.

Glory to God,
Taken

My sentiments exactly.

Seems to have disappeared.

Youtube is very good as long as you stay away from their popular stuff and you know what to look for. But if you're able to read you're probably better off. I've pretty much lost the ability thanks to my deppression/anxiety medication.

Textbook genetic fallacy. "Odds" of Christians being right aren't that good, either, but I'm going with it. As far as I know, no one has stepped up to debunk her 350-0 Hydroxychloroquine/Zinc/Azithromycin success claim, and you know they would if they could, HIPPA notwithstanding.

I think she might actually be quite delusional about some stuff but 350-0 is 350-0.
You sound like anther expert. This site is full of experts. Quite honestly, I don't think that much about such things. I lack the expertise and resources, so why fret about something I don't know about?

As for the odds of Christians being right? When we have hundreds of thousands of different beliefs that contradict each other, it's a certainty that at best only one could be right. That means the vast majority of Christians hold wrong beliefs. If you read this forum, you will see how people disagree. The odds say most Christians hold fallacious views. Again if you read the forum, you may find out for yourself why some people almost love being deluded about religion.

I don't know that much about COVID-19 and medications to treat it, but it's looking more and more like efforts are being made to squelch success stories. It's actually quite dystopian in appearance, like someone wants people to be afraid of free speech and truth, etc.

(Speaking of free speech, I came here from another, more popular forum website and there, about half of what I've read here would result in deletion, thread closing, banning, etc. Quite draconian, indeed. I was beginning to think there was something wrong with me. I stayed so long because there was a particular fellow there whose influence I was intent on countering. But he was protected and somehow able to break all the rules with impunity.)

Anyhoo, I thought it was quite striking that a Yale Professor of Epidemiology would go out on a limb and that Newsweek would publish him.

I saw nothing objectionable in that article. Did you read that article? Did you really? I agree with this:

Why has hydroxychloroquine been disregarded?

First, as all know, the medication has become highly politicized. For many, it is viewed as a marker of political identity, on both sides of the political spectrum. Nobody needs me to remind them that this is not how medicine should proceed. We must judge this medication strictly on the science. When doctors graduate from medical school, they formally promise to make the health and life of the patient their first consideration, without biases of race, religion, nationality, social standing—or political affiliation. Lives must come first.

And here at this forum people are still making it political. People are repeating conspiracy theories. So keep arguing about it, Barney. You are making things worse according to the article you cited.

I am sorry about that. Side effects are debilitating as the diagnosis sometimes! I do watch YouTube as well and am very selective, unlike a very "sensation oriented" younger sister, of mine who incessantly sends me all the- IMHO-garbage videos. I do know she means well but her discernment is like, not there at all
Too bad about Reuters :(

God bless and lift you up!

For the record, I note you did not answer my questions. I assume you did not read the entire article. I thought it was very good article. HCQ is not a miracle cure-all, but it is very likely very useful for people if they're diagnosed early. It is not useful for severe cases -- as the VA study showed.

We all might find our lives happier if we're not taking conspiracy theories too seriously.
