This is where he needs to appreciate the responsibilities that come with being the President of the United States when speaking to the public. No, he did not tell people to inject or drink disinfectant, or to stick lights into their lungs. But by talking about it in the way he did (as something that scientists are either looking into, or should look into), some people will come away with the impression that there is something to those things and therefore they're worth trying.

We saw that with how his hydroxychloroquine rhetoric led to a nationwide shortage of the drug, and in one case an unnecessary death. He never actually told people to take the drug, but the manner in which he talked about it gave a lot of people the impression that it's worth trying. (Sadly now we're finding out int not only doesn't work, in some cases it makes things worse)

At the very least he needs to be much more cautious in what he says, and he needs to be aware that there are a lot of people in this country who hang on his every word and take what he says as gospel truth.
Seriously, now.... Is ANY doctor in the world going to give patients ANY drug because a politician suggested it? I mean, really? Of course not!!

What about murder and then blaming it on Trump? It might have happened.

The Free Beacon has another article on that couple that took the aquarium cleaner. They revealed the names; and they say several people who knew them both said the man would never have done consumed aquarium cleaner. The story may still be unfolding -- or we may never know what really happened -- but it raises the possibility that the wife gave it to him without his knowledge wanting him to die and giving herself a smaller dose so she got sick too but not sick enough to die. Then she blamed Trump?

Story here: Man Who Died Ingesting Fish Tank Cleaner Remembered as Intelligent, Levelheaded Engineer

Yipes, a man being treated for internal heavy metals...was most likely being being systematically unknowingly poisoned for some time. Seems highly unlikely on a whim to voluntarily ingest poison would be on his bucket list.

We're talking about disinfectants you can buy at any grocery store, not prescription drugs.

Good grief...people want updates...of what "they" know and what things "they" are trying...

Are people so stupid they don't understand...asking a health professional IS NOT suggesting anyone become an armchair scientist and concoct and ingest or inject poison into themselves?

Unbelievable!

God Bless,

It's a shame he let himself be forced into giving an apology. Especially in using such incorrect terminology as "sarcastic." He wasn't being the least bit sarcastic, he was simply asking a question of the doctors sitting there. Dr. Brix said it correctly when she explained how he likes to verbally toss ALL possibilities around with them.

Trump was asking questions...what's the problem?
Yeah! What if you took a deep breath in front of a flame thrower? Wouldn't that kill the virus?

Just askin'.....or being sarcastic.....or...........something

Again, he needs to appreciate his position and sway with his followers. Nationally televised briefings about a pandemic that has killed 50,000 Americans is not the time or place to be spit-balling ideas off the top of his head. It certainly isn't a time to be sarcastic.

@farouk @Nancy

What I don't get, if heat kills it, why are there still cases in Saudi Arabia and Ecuador?

Good question Josho,
Unless they keep giving it to each other back and forth while forced to live in close conditions? I do not know if it can be transmitted back and forth between people...?

PS... I also only heard said about the heat...no proof :)

His remarks helped spread a rumor that resulted in shortages of two drugs.

April 1, 2020 FDA says anti-malaria drugs touted by Trump for coronavirus care in shortage

Two anti-malaria drugs touted by President Trump as a potential way to treat the novel coronavirus are now in shortage, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said Wednesday.

Hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine were both added to the agency's drug shortages list on Tuesday "due to a significant surge in demand."

All manufacturers are ramping up production, FDA said, and it is working with them "to ensure this can happen expeditiously and safely."
. . .
Hydroxychloroquine, which is already available commercially in the United States, is commonly used to treat malaria, lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. Chloroquine is generally prescribed less often than hydroxychloroquine because its side effects can be more dangerous.

I read one story where a woman in the US with lupus had to reduce the dosage so she wouldn't run out. I think that shortage has been fixed now in the US. (Utah had no shortage since they bought lots -- helping create the shortage for others.) It's a more serious problem in other countries where people with lupus and rheumatoid arthritis are facing shortages.

You may remember that when the rumor started, India announced they would stop exporting what they manufactured. If it worked, I guess they thought India would need it all. Trump called PM Modi and talked him into sending more to the US.

I know I might cop a bit of backlash here for posting this, you may be a Trump fan or you may not be, but just making sure you know, it's definitely not recommended for anyone to follow Trump's suggestion on injecting disinfectant.

Here's an article on it.

'It's irresponsible and it's dangerous': Experts rip Trump's idea of injecting disinfectant to treat COVID-19

Trump is so funny. He makes me laugh. I'm not sure what's it's like as a President but he just mosies along, doing his thing.

And THAT is a valid question. It might be possible that breathing heated air could be helpful. Even now, they are testing putting UV lighting in ventilators…….. even experimenting with LED projection into breathing tubes.

NO, not at all. That post was in reference to someone dying because their doctor gave them Hydroxychloroquine.
Actually, the person died because they took a different form that was in aquarium cleaners. I believe his wife specifically said he took it because of what the President had been saying.

Sure. But again, that situation was not the time for the President to be spit-balling questions, or be sarcastic.

You just said, right there, that it was not Trump who caused the shortage.

Why not? He's trying to tell America all that is going on as each new day dawns.
