These words, I believe, we spoken by the Lord Jesus Christ Himself, in a passage that is known as “the Gospel in a Nutshell”, in John chapter 3, verses 15-18. Jesus is still in conversation with Nicodemus.

To whom do the words, “πᾶς ὁ πιστεύων”, refer to?

To understand who the Greek “πᾶς”, which is translated by some as “whomsoever”, or, “whoever”, or, “everyone”, or, “anyone”, etc, refers, we must understand what Jesus means in this passage by “κόσμος”, which is translated by “world”.

Some have sought to limit the use of “κόσμος” here to mean, “the elect of God”, which is very few in number, when compared with the greater majority of the “non-elect”, who will end up in eternal punishment. This is the view taken by the so called “Reformed”, or “Calvinists”, who do so purely based on their “theology”, that Jesus Christ only Died for “the elect”. The person who these “Calvinists”, take their name from, is the Reformed French theologian, John Calvin. It is very interesting what John Calvin, has to say on the use of “κόσμος”, in this passage:

“Such is also the import of the term World, which he formerly used; for though nothing will be found in the world that is worthy of the favor of God, yet he shows himself to be reconciled to the whole world, when he invites all men without exception to the faith of Christ, which is nothing else than an entrance into life.” (from Calvin’s Commentary on John’s Gospel. Emphasis mine).

It is very clear from what Calvin himself says here, that by the term “world”, he means “the whole world”, and that is, “all men without exception”, who God desires to be “reconciled” with through Jesus Christ, which is eternal life. Nothing can be more palin, that John Calvin understands Jesus’ words here, as an Invitation for the whole human race, to salvation in Him. This is completely contradictory to what “Calvinists” teach in his name!

Robert Dabney, who was a theologian, and himself a Calvinist, has this to say on the use of “kosmos” here:

“In Jno.iii.16, make ‘the world’ which Christ loved, to mean ‘the elect world’, and we reach the absurdity, that some of the elect may not believe, and perish…since Christ made expiation for every man” (Systematic Theology, p.525)

Another Calvinist, John Trapp, in his commentary says:

“The world, that is, all mankind fallen in Adam”

There can be no doubt to those who read this passage with an open, and not “Reformed”, mind, that here Jesus Christ is speaking of the saving love of God the Father, for the entire human race, which zero exceptions. Interesting, that Calvins own words on this, “all men without exception”, is not what Calvinist would themselves use, as they say, “all men without distinction”, which here is more of a cop-out, based on their biased theology!

On the term “whomsoever”, etc, again John Calvin’s own comments are very interesting and important here:

“And he has employed the universal term whosoever, both to invite all indiscriminately to partake of life, and to cut off every excuse from unbeliever” (Commentary)

This is exactly what Jesus Christ means. This is exactly what the 66 Books of the Holy Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, teaches. This is the Heart of Almighty God, in the desire to see ALL sinners reconciled to Himself, through the Death of the Lord Jesus Christ!

At the very end of the last chapter in the Book of Revelation, we have the words of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit, which are very similar to what He says in John chapter 3:

“Both the Spirit and the Bride say, "Come!" Anyone who hears should say, "Come!" And the one who is thirsty should come. Whoever desires should take the living water as a gift” (22:17)

Here, ANYONE and WHOEVER, refers to THE ENTIRE HUMAN RACE, indeed, GOD SO LOVES THE ENTIRE HUMAN RACE, that He desires that NONE were to be lost. This is the LOVE from the HEART of the ALMIGHTY, for ALL HUMANS, from Adam to the last person.

Gloria in Deo

Christ did die only for the elect which results in them believing. Thats how its known whom Christ died for, by their believing in Him, all others were the non elect who God chose and appointed unto disobedience 1 Pet 2:8

8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.

John Calvinism could not understand that "God's Foreknowledge", which is God knowing all that will happen be-fore it does... is not the same as God causing it all to happen.

Calvin was unable to process that simple understanding, and so He redefined "foreknowledge" as "Pre-destined" and created one of the most Satanic Cross rejecting theologies that has ever been inflicted like spiritual cancer on the Body of Christ, for 500 + Yrs.

John Calvinism read ... "For God so loved the WORLD (everyone), that God GAVE His only begotten son".... To us all, ...

And J-Calvin decided that ..."No God, you didnt.... you only gave Jesus and the Cross to those i have decided to call the "pre-destined elect".

For God SO LOVES THE HUMAN RACE! It does NOT say that God only loves those who believe. so you are DECEIVING people by teaching this LIE!

Listen to the wise words of John Dabney, a reformed Calvinist on John 3:16

To say God loved the human race as a whole is a false gospel Rom 9:13. Everyone God loved, Christ died for which death for them, in their stead, ensures that they will become believers.

Now all who die in their sins and unbelief, Christ didnt die for them, God never loved them, in fact they were hated by God and that from all eternity.

Rom 9:13

Why you haven't showed that world in Jn 3:15-17 means the whole human race, dont put a burden on someone else you not willing to carry yourself.

The Greek authorities that define KOSMOS in John 3:16:

J H Thayer:

“the inhabitants of the earth, men, the human race. Jn. i.10, 29, iii.16sq”

W F Arndt and F W Gingrich:

of all mankind, but especially of believers as objects of God’s love”

J Parkhurst:

“the world, i.e., the whole race of mankind, both believers and unbelievers, both good and bad.”

E Robinson:

“the world for the inhabitants of the earth, men, mankind. John.1.29, 3:16”

Hermann Cremer:

“It denotes the ordered entirety of God’s creation, humanity itself”

The NIV Theological Dictionary of New Testament Words:

“in Jn. kosmos almost always denotes the world of humans, esp. the world of sinful humanity that opposes God, resists the redeeming work of the Son, does not believe in Him”

G Kittel and G Friedrich:

“All the meanings of kosmos come together in the usage of the Fourth Gospel. Not just the Prologue uses kosmos for the world in the sense of the universe

W E Vine:

“the human race, mankind

A T Robertson:

The world (ton kosmon). The whole cosmos of men, including Gentiles, the whole human race. This universal aspect of God's love appears also in 2Co 5:19; Rom 5:8”

M Vincent:

“The sum-total of humanity in the world; the human race

Calvinists always bring up this verse about Easu, to "prove" that there are some of His Creation that He HATES

Let us look at what the Bible says about God's ELECT Nation in the Old Testament

"Therefore the anger of the LORD was kindled against His people And He detested His own inheritance" (Psalm 106:40)

"anger" in Hebrew also means "fierceness of anger"; and "detested", has the meaning "abominable, abhor"

This is what is said about God's own people!

Much stronger language compared with Easu!

Let us put John 3:16 in to its context, and see if this can indeed be used for the “elect only”. In verses 16 and 17, we find the word "kosmos" used four times, which, as we shall see, when taken together, shall tell us the true meaning of " kosmos " in verse 16.

In verse 17 John says: "For God sent not His Son into the world...", where "kosmos " would no doubt refer to the" earth", as a place. He then goes on to say: "to condemn the world...", which cannot only refer to "the elect", and not to the entire human race. Or else, we must conclude that the rest of mankind (non-elect), will not be judged! What John is here saying, is, that at His first coming, Jesus did not come as the Judge of mankind, but as its Saviour. When He shall come the second time, it will not be to save people from their sins ( as it will be too late), but to Judge the world in righteousness. But, to limit "kosmos" to the elect only, would teach that it was only them whom Christ is coming to Judge! He will "condemn" the world, but not yet. We then read: "but that the world through Him might be saved". Again, if we are to limit "kosmos" to the elect, this part of the text goes against the teaching, that the elect can never lose their salvation.

Those who BELIEVE NOT, will be condemned; those who BELIEVE, will be saved

The CONDITION here is BELIEF, what the sinner must have, and NOT as the "Reformed" teach, that God "grants" this "faith" to only the "elect". This would make God unjust, because He is condemning those who do not believe, to those Who He did not give this "faith" to. He cannot condemn those to who don't believe, because they COULD NOT!

Jesus Christ, speaking to the Jews who wanted to murder Him, said this to them, in John chapter 5

"38 and you do not have his word abiding in you, for you do not believe the one whom he has sent. 39 You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me, 40 yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life"

Note what Jesus says. These Jews, who in verses 16-18, wanted to murder Jesus, did not believe in Jesus. The Greek does NOT say, "could not believe", as those they were forbidden to do so. Jesus also says to these, that they REFUSE (free will), to go to Jesus, the Only Saviour, so that they could have eternal life! There is no Scriptural evidence to say that all these Jews Jesus addressed, were saved, and therefore could not be part of the "Reformed elect". YET here Jesus says that He is their Saviour, and it was they who REJECTED Him, by REFUSING to go to Him for their salvation!

The "Reformed" reject what the Bible Teaches here, by their man-made nonsense of "election" and "limited atonement"!

Much love!

This is what a Calvinist theologian says on sin:

"In Spite of All of the Foregoing Statements, We Have to Come to the Point Where We Confess That We Do Not Understand How It Is That God Can Ordain That We Carry Out Evil Deeds and Yet Hold Us Accountable for Them and Not be Blamed Himself: We can affirm that all of these things are true, because Scripture teaches them. But Scripture does not tell us exactly how God brings this situation about or how it can be that God holds us accountable for what he ordains to come to pass. Here Scripture is silent, and we have to agree with Berkhof that ultimately “the problem of God’s relation to sin remains a mystery" (Wayne Grudem; Systematic Theology, p.331. emphasis mine)

And the Westminster Confession of Faith:

“Our first parents were led astray by the cunning temptation of Satan and sinned in eating the forbidden fruit. It pleased God to allow them to sin, because in his wisdom and holiness he planned to order their sin to his own glory” (On the Fall of Man)

These statements make God the AUTHOR of sin, and that He takes PLEASURE in humans sinning!

The Oxford English Dictionary defines PLEASED:

“Affected by feelings of satisfaction or pleasure; contented, gratified, in good humour”

The Bible is very clear on this point, and I do not believe that God wants man to sin. This would make God dishonest Himself, and I don't accept that for a moment! "The way, the truth, and the life". If God is a liar we're in trouble!
