Going Up: The Time is Near!
The aftermath: The Rapture is followed by the tribulation period
, while the Second Coming is followed by the millennial kingdom. In Matthew 24:29-31, Jesus describes the events that will occur after the tribulation period, saying that “the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken. Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory. And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.” This describes the aftermath of the Second Coming, which includes the millennial kingdom, in which Christ will reign for a thousand years.
Yes; and both 2 Thess 2:1 and Matthew 24:31, do not mention heaven as the destination. Jesus Returns to the earthThat is the rapture as also described here:
2Th 2:1 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,
Mat 24:29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
Mat 24:30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
Mat 24:31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
There is no doubt that both speak of the coming of Christ and the rapture which is the gathering of the saints.
You said: "The Rapture is the event in which Christ will return to take the Church, the body of believers, to heaven before the tribulation period."Excellent post, Rapture and End Times! These are my thoughts...
The Rapture and the Second Coming are two events described in the Bible that are often confused with each other. While they share similarities, they differ in their timing and purpose. The Rapture is the event in which Christ will return to take the Church, the body of believers, to heaven before the tribulation period. The Second Coming is the event in which Christ will return to earth with his saints to establish his kingdom and defeat his enemies.
Timing: The Rapture is described as an imminent event that could happen at any moment, while the Second Coming occurs after the tribulation period. In 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17, Paul writes about the Rapture, saying that “the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.” In contrast, the Second Coming is described in Revelation 19:11-16 as occurring after the tribulation period, when Christ returns to earth on a white horse with his saints to defeat his enemies.
Purpose: The Rapture is the event in which Christ will take his Church to heaven before the tribulation period, while the Second Coming is the event in which Christ will establish his kingdom on earth and defeat his enemies. In John 14:2-3, Jesus says, “My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” This describes the purpose of the Rapture, which is to take believers to heaven to be with Christ. In contrast, the purpose of the Second Coming is described in Revelation 11:15, which says, “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Messiah, and he will reign for ever and ever.”
Who is involved: The Rapture involves only believers, while the Second Coming involves both believers and unbelievers. In 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17, Paul writes about the Rapture, saying that “the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.” This describes the Rapture as involving only believers. In contrast, the Second Coming is described in Matthew 25:31-46 as involving both believers and unbelievers, with the believers being separated from the unbelievers.
Nature of Christ's return: The Rapture is described as a secret, quiet event, while the Second Coming is described as a visible and dramatic event. In 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17, Paul writes about the Rapture, saying that “the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.” This describes the Rapture as a quiet event that will only be noticed by believers. In contrast, the Second Coming is described in Matthew 24:27 as being “as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west.”
The aftermath: The Rapture is followed by the tribulation period, while the Second Coming is followed by the millennial kingdom. Encouraging falsehood is a very bad thing to do and is a very subtle hatred of God, well disguised as 'good'.Thoughtful comments, Benjamin731. You really have a grasp of the sequence and timing of the Rapture and TRibulation. I would like to use your comments in a future message, with your permission.
