'Brethren, be not children in understanding:It is in Paul's explaining the purpose of tongues (1 Corinthians 14:21) following his clarification that even the scriptures must be "spiritually discerned" (1 Corinthians 2:14). Which means nothing if Israel did not first suffer spiritual blindness, that blindness that remains "until the fullness of the gentiles has come in." This was the blindness that foreshadows the great apostasy foretold of these times.
Who were the first and who are the last? Who is the heel catcher, and in whom does God prevail? Who then is Jacob, and who is Israel?
.. howbeit in malice be ye children,
.... but in understanding be men.
In the law it is written,
.. With men of other tongues and other lips
.... will I speak unto this people;
...... and yet for all that will they not hear me,
........ saith the Lord.'
(1 Corinthians 14:20)
Thank you @ScottA,(re: #69 & #72 & Matthew 13:14)
* Paul does not directly quote Isaiah 6:10 in this verse, as he does in Matthew 13: though he appears to be alluding to it.
* In 1 Corinthians 14:20, Paul was addressing His brethren in the flesh: those who were Israelites among his hearers (Acts 18:1-4); to which nation the words of Isaiah 6:9-10 were directed, as I said in #72: and the words of 1 Corinthians 14:20 refers to them as, 'this People'.
* Isaiah 6:9-10, was spoken about and to:- 'This People' .
* Jacob and Israel, to whom you refer, are as Scripture describes them. I will not spiritualise where Scripture does not.
In Christ Jesus
