Because of several factors related to COVID. It's showing that it doesn't just kill high-risk people, people with the virus can be asymptomatic (and thereby spread it unknowingly), and it has a delayed onset of symptoms.

Like I said, this isn't about keeping everyone from getting the virus. The majority of people will be exposed to this virus at some point. It's about not repeating what happened in Italy, where because the infection spread so quickly, the hospitals were overrun and as a result had to basically let some people die because there weren't enough resources to go around. The stay at home, social distancing, and other measures are working to prevent that scenario.
