The guy said that what made him sin wasn't good but it was evil. That implies evil doesn't do good. The guy was evil. If he was evil then how did he fight the evil within himself unless he did something good?
"The guy" was Paul. There is debate as to whether he is speaking about the battle between the flesh and the spirit that takes place within every Christian or (as is more commonly believed) he is speaking in the "voice" of one who has not yet turned to Christ. It is impossible to understand these passages - and, for that matter, Romans - without a solid commentary (or perhaps ten solid commentaries). It appears to me that you are working yourself into a state of total confusion.

This discusses the basic debate: Does Romans 7 Describe a Christian?.

Truth is fiction. Fiction is truth. They r the same but different.

Isaiah 5:20
20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!.../KJV

You're playing a dangerous game. Just thought you should know.

The bible applies value judgements to every thing. That includes all kinds of behavior. If the guy fights the evil within himself we must apply a value judgement to that fight because the bible says his will to fight evil has a value to it.

There's only two values that exist in the bible. Good and evil. If he is fighting the evil then it is one of those two values. Good luck figuring out which it is. When Paul fights evil it wasn't evil that he did by fighting it. It must've had a value though. It was good.

Even math studies have shown why we can measure all values whether they're good or evil values.

Do I need to simplify what I said with pre K math charts? I hope not.

We must apply values to everything because everything has a value. That includes fighting evil. Fighting evil can't be evil.

There are no values that are neither good or evil talked of in the bible.

What is the value of fighting evil? If we say zero, then why can we measure the value of it with other numbers?

So we know the bible says that the Love of money is the root of all evil.
It is not the money that is evil, or even the person that is rich is evil.
But the love of money itself is what the problem is.

There is a man named Joseph of Arimathaea who was rich.

Mat 27:57
When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus' disciple:
Mat 27:58
He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered.
Mat 27:59
And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,
Mat 27:60
And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed.

And this same man along with Nicodemus brought 100 pound weight of myrrh and aloe in which to wrap Jesus' body in for his burial.

Jhn 19:38
And after this Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus.
Jhn 19:39
And there came also Nicodemus, which at the first came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound weight.
Jhn 19:40
Then took they the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury.

There was a woman who had an alabaster box of ointment and she poured it on Jesus for his burial. And the disciples got upset because they thought that it would be more profitable to sell the ointment and give to the poor.

Mat 26:7
There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat.
Mat 26:8
But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste?
Mat 26:9
For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor.

So we know that the 100 pound weight of spices that Joseph and Nicodemus brought with them must also have cost a lot of money.

Was Joseph evil because he was rich, or did God bless him with riches for the purpose of providing for Jesus' burial?

The answer is this: Where your heart is that's where your treasure will be also.
Joseph and Nicodemus loved Jesus more than money.

So the problem with most rich men, is they don't want to give up their riches, They want to cling onto them. And that's why Jesus says it is easier for a camel to go through an eye of an needle than a rich man to enter into the Kingdom.
Because most times the love of money outweighs the love of friendship.

But not always.

The bible says that fighting evil is not a good thing to do. U r trying to defend that. I want good reasons why fighting evil can't be good.
Fighting evil is good because it matters and it is working with good.

Fighting evil is good because it matters and it is working with good.
Depends if the evil you percieve is in yourself or someone else.

If the evil is in someone else, then that job belongs to the Lord. He is the Judge of others. And only He can Judge what is is another's heart.
So if the evil is in someone else, you pray for them.
If you try and take Justice into your own hands, it will come back upon your own head.
Vengeance is Mine saith the Lord, I will repay.
That's the first reason I find that fighting against evil in others yourself, isn't good.

It lowers your own standards. You become self-righteous in your own eye, you become more arrogant, prideful.
So then the evil you percieve to be in others, takes root in yourself when you try to beat them with the same weapons they use against you.
Hate, anger, wrath. You don't want to become what it is your fighting against.
So the lower they go, the higher you go. The more evil they are, the more patient and long suffering you become.
The more nasty they are the more kind you must be. Fight bitter with sweet.
God is a rewarder of those which do good. Fight ignorance with wisdom. Fight Hate with Love. Take the higher ground.

If the evil is in yourself, pluck it out, cut it off.
Inspect yourself to see if you have any bitterness or anger or envy or greed in yourself and let it go.
Because if you don't it will eat you up on the inside and make you miserable and unhappy.

Replace those things by being more caring, more thankful, more merciful, empathy, understanding.
Be honest with yourself. Don't try to justify why you are behaving badly. Just refuse to continue on that path.

There are more weapons of good than there are evil. And the more you use them the stronger and more experienced you become using them.
If you neglect these gifts eventually they will become weak and beggarly.
Fight the good fight of faith.
Put your trust in God.
Allow him to lead you when you are in the battle. Put aside your own desires for retribution.

Know your enemy. Know their weakness. If they are hot (angry, mean, nasty) give them something cool ( gentleness, meekness, temperance)
If they are cold ( stubborn, hard hearted, insulting, criticizing) then give them something hot (Compassion, Joy, Happiness) .

Fight fire with cold water, and fight Ice with warmth.

Most people can be evil because their heart is not right. They have fear, uncertainty, confusion, and they lash out with emotions that they are feeling in themselves. All you can do is have love, be firm, be consistant.
We don't know what is going on inside another persons heart or mind, but we can recognize the signs most times by having been there ourselves as some point. Have empathy, and help them overcome the evil in themselves by giving them the tools you use to keep yourself from evil.

Then there are people that are evil for the sake of being evil. They just enjoy being miserable.
Leave them alone. Don't throw your pearls before swine. Ask God to work on that person and shake the dust from your feet and walk away.

Better to walk away than to be drawn in and enticed to be as they are.

Evil is deceptive. Know your enemy, exercise your weapons and keep them sharp, leave the battle to the Lord.

The bible says that the rich are evil
It says evil does no good
It says the rich people donate to charity
It says donating to charity is good

That means rich people are doing good by donating to charity even though rich people are evil who don't do good
The bible spells out to be perfect rich people must sell all give to the poor and follow Jesus. Yes you got that right.

The apostles set up a church where everyone shared according to everyone's needs and none were lacking:

Acts 2:44-45 NKJV Acts 2:44-45 Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common, and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need. | New King James Version (NKJV) | Download The Bible App Now

Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common, and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need.

So if they did that they wouldn't be rich anymore.

There are no values that are neither good or evil talked of in the bible.

What is the value of fighting evil? If we say zero, then why can we measure the value of it with other numbers?
Just weights, scales of balance, measures that are meted out, rewards and penalties.
All of these are a way of valuing good/evil right/wrong.

Count the costs.

Jde 1:22
And of some have compassion, making a difference:

so, fighting evil with compassion = makes a difference. That difference is the value of your compassion.

Jde 1:23
And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.

hating evil in others by overcoming fear of evil itself = salvation. The difference is the value of overcoming fear.

So that made me think of when Jesus was casting out devils.

Devils are evil buggers, nasty spirits, angry all the time, spiteful. Bullies.
How do you cast the bully out of the man, and what is the value of doing so? Peace, soundness of mind?

How do you weigh these on a scale? And is it ours to measure or balance the scales?
Judge not lest ye be judged. And with what measure ye mete it shall be measured to you again.
You get double.

Mat 7:2
For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

How does God weigh good and evil?
Is there ever too much good? Is there ever not enough evil?

What is the purpose of both?

Is balance necessary?

deep questions my friend.

For what reason does one remove one’s hand from a hot stove?

The fight is within, not without.
Exactly. If u don't fight evil within yourself, Christ won't be able to save u from it within u unless he were take away your free will to do evil.

If u don't fight the illnesses in your body, they will remain in there. God isn't gonna take them out for u. If he did it would violate free will. When u do evil it's a conscious act of free will.

Free will is the thought…. Fee will. There isn’t any object anyone has or has even seen called “free will”. It’s like rumor that really spiraled.
Same for evil.

So the way I understand it is, We don't really have the power to heal oursleves. We have the desire and the faith to be healed.
And if we submit ourselves to the Lord, not doing our own will but by his will, He will heal us.

God doesn't take away our free will, we gladly lay our own will down, and put it in the hands of God.

We can't save ourselves.

Jas 1:18
Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

Jas 4:7
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Will you die for him?

Will you give up your own free will to live by God's will for you?

The bible says that the rich are evil
It says evil does no good
It says the rich people donate to charity
It says donating to charity is good

That means rich people are doing good by donating to charity even though rich people are evil who don't do good
It means rich people put their wealth before God. Rich people who have no need of God because their riches supply all they need. In his sermon on the mount Jesus said, 'Blessed are the poor' - meaning those who know they need God.

The bible often seems to contradict itself but everything must be taken in context and then it becomes clear.

  1. Matthew 5:3
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

  2. Luke 6:20
Looking at his disciples, he said: “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.

Exactly. If u don't fight evil within yourself, Christ won't be able to save u from it within u unless he were take away your free will to do evil.
It is God himself who gives us the ability to fight evil. If His Holy Spirit live in us through Jesus then it is that Holy Spirit who will guide us teach us and show us where we need to make changes.

A leopard can't change its spots but God can.
