UNity does not mean conformity. Paul said we will not agree on everything!
Romans 14
King James Version
14 Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations.
2 For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs.
3 Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him.
4 Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.
5 One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.
6 He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.
7 For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself.
8 For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's.
And this goes for celebrating holidays and many other things a believer has liberty in.
Not like the Watchtower where one can be disfellowshipped for celebrating christmas as the birth of Jesus, or taking his wife out to dinner with a box of chocolates and flowers for valentines day. I don't know if celebrating thanksgiving is still a sin according ot the man made teachings of the Watchtower.
You are correct sir, there is latitude, however it is within the guidelines. Obedience to Christian laws is not negotiable, but if you want to draw a line of perfect in the middle on a law, some may lean to the positive or negative part of that line, but although maybe not being fully in agreement, they have to stay within those boundaries, or it becomes sin. If you want to post where you think the governing body is out of line, I will be glad to give you the Scriptural reason we believe the way we do.
Christians do not celebrate birthdays in the Bible, and of course you are aware that God does not like lies, so certainly christmas is out of the question. The very word holiday stands for holy day, or in otherwords a religious celebration. The only commanded celebration in Scripture is memorializing the death of Jesus, which we do every Nisan 14. Were you aware that your own personal birthday is the number one holy day in the satanic bible by anton levey?
There is absolutely nothing wrong with thanksgiving of course, other than someone setting it aside to only be thankful once a year, we are thankful every day sir. Many of us meet with families on that day, not because of it being a holy day, as it is no more holy that day than any other, but because most are off work and available to meet at that time. However with the scene of this world changing so much, no doubt much less of us are meeting together that day.
