Danube,
For whom were the Ten Commandments written, according to Ex 20:1-17 (NIV). Ex 20:1-3 tells us:
And God spoke all these words:
2 ‘I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
3 ‘You shall have no other gods before me....
The 10 Commandments were not given as the Law for every nation. It was for the nation brought out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery for the Israelites.
I hope this thread grapples with homosexuality as an 'abomination' as language used for the Israelites under the Old Covenant. For those covered by the New Covenant - Christian believers - these are 2 prominent instructions about homosexuality:
9 Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
In God's kingdom, homosexuality is only one of a list of a number of sins/wrongs that prevents one from entering God's kingdom. Therefore, I suggest that homosexuality, since the passion and resurrection of Jesus and the emergence of the New Covenant, is placed as one of many wrongs. Let's not single it out more than other sexual immorality, idolatry, adultery, theft, greed, drunkenness, slandering, and swindling.
Could you imagine what would happen in the local church if we placed slandering on the same level of sinfulness as homosexuality? That's where 1 Cor 6 places it.
Others have discussed Rom 1.
