The Cross
(Mat 10:38) And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.
(Mat 16:24) Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
Mar 8:34 And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
(Luk 9:23) And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
(Luk 14:27) And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.
The Cross. What a heavy burden our saviour carried, yet he asks no less of us. When I first got saved I like many Christians did not understand the significance of this but as he moulded me I began to understand. Firstly I must say if you want a free trip to heaven than this is not for you. There are many who will read this and Say ,” Yes this is what I know”, for they have taken up there cross and are paying the price.
So you say I am saved through grace and I don’t have to do anything???
(Mar 10:17) And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?
(Mar 10:18) And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.
(Mar 10:19) Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother.
(Mar 10:20) And he answered and said unto him, Master, all these have I observed from my youth.
(Mar 10:21) Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.
(Mar 10:22) And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions.
(Mar 10:23) And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!
(Mat 10:39) He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.
Salvation comes at a price. The cross is the way, your life is the price. To some this is not an option, it is not there choice. God has called them and he expects no less.
(Mar 8:35) For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it.
When God calls you, he wants you and not the excess baggage. Dying to one self is painful. Ask any one who has being there. Yashua was our example, He went to the cross alone. And anyone who cries out and says ,” you need people”, will find that at the time you need people the most seems the time when God removes them from your life. Who are we to depend on?. The pastor, your wife/husband, a best friend. They won’t be there. God wants us to depend wholly on him, if we have others to go to then he dosn’t get our attention.
(Mar 14:35) And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him.
(Mar 14:36) And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.
When Yashua went into the garden to pray he left the disciples and prayed on his own.
When Yashua prayed that prayer, He was giving his life into His father Hands. He gave up his choices for His Fathers.
This prayer becomes a part of you life when the cross becomes a part of your life.
Lord not my will but yours.
Lord not my kingdom but yours.
Lord not my glory but yours.
Lord not my words but yours.
Lord not my way but yours.
Lord not my time but yours.
Then it got even lonelier.
(Mar 14:50) And they all forsook him, and fled.
(Mat 26:56) But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.
When you take up your cross it becomes a personal battle. No one can do it but you. There was no one else who could die for us but Yashua. It is your battle, your walk, your cross, your life, yours and yours alone.
But don’t think you will be alone, there will always be someone with you, Yashua.
(Heb 13:5) Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
I ask you, “ who was it that led him away”?. It was those that he loved. Yashua hated no one. He died for all our sin. The people you love the most just might be the people that crucify you. You must learn to love the unloved, forgive the unforgivable, despise and judge no man. They will most likely not realise what they are doing. But it must happen.
So Yashua went alone. Despised and rejected by those that he loved. Innocent, but sent to the cross. Yashua knew he was innocent, but this I will say, when you take up your cross you may feel guilty, angry, rejected, unloved, unwanted, so small, and so hurt. There may even be emotions that you have never felt before. I know I did. I even went out into my back yard and said , “ How can there be a God?, what God would do this to a child of his”. I even told Yashua I wouldn’t serve him but thanks to Him that didn’t last long. Even our Lord felt forsaken…
Mr 15:34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
And David,
<To the chief Musician upon Aijeleth Shahar, A Psalm of David.>
(Psa 22:1) My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring?
(Psa 22:2) O my God, I cry in the daytime, but thou hearest not; and in the night season, and am not silent.
(Psa 22:3) But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.
(Psa 22:4) Our fathers trusted in thee: they trusted, and thou didst deliver them.
