From a scriptural perspective a third world war is not foretold within the Bible. Jesus did tell us that there would be wars and rumours of wars in various place around the world.

The next major assembly for war will be the Kings of the earth being drawn into assembling at Armageddon to trample for the last time, God's Sanctuary and His Earthly hosts living in and around Jerusalem. However, the assembling of the kings of the earth at Armageddon will herald in God's judgement of the gentile kings for being led by the Little Horn Beast to be his army to trample God Sanctuary and Earthly Hosts over a period of 2,300 years. This also coincides with the judgement of the heavenly hosts in heaven, the five beasts of Daniel 7:1-12 and Satan and together, the judged kings of the earth and the judged heavenly hosts they will be gather together and imprisoned in the Bottomless pit for 1,000 years to await the time of their punishment.

This gathering at Armageddon is not occur at present but it will happen in around 20 years from now at the end of the end of this present age.

Wars and rumors of wars are events that happen before the tribulation begins. During the trib, there won't be wars because the beast kingdom will be one, and will rule the world, Rev 13:4. The only war happening will be the one against Christians, Rev 12:17, Rev 13:7. Other than Christians being persecuted, the world will be in a peaceful state (1 Thess 5:3) until the second coming which is when Armageddon will take place.
