Where did anyone "present 50 years of recorded history as indicative of all of recorded human history", as you claimed? Be specific.

I'm beginning to think you a troll.

Again, go back to all of the charts. I'm afraid that I am unsure of any other way to state it, sans quoting your original post.

I re-looked and didn't see anyone claiming that 50 years of data represents all of recorded human history. Instead of playing this silly game, how about you just specifically show where anyone has made that claim?

Ah, I see the problem. When the article says, "since the federal government began collecting data", for some reason you can't differentiate between that and "all of human history".

River,

Your understanding of fundamentalism is extremely suspect. True, it is believed that society will continue to crumble morally on a large scale. The bible is extremely clear on this. One cannot misinterpret the context of scripture as it applies to worldly decay. However, the church will experience manifestations of God's power and sovereignty like at no time in history. Greater things will be done than Jesus did, greater revival will occur than in the book of Acts.

"It is the best of times and the worst of times" to reference Dickens. This is a far cry from your fatalistic, gloom and doom caricature of Christianity.

Open up a little and stop the hate.

It looks like a few others on this thread disagree with you CJ. They didn't respond well to this information at all. Maybe you should take up your position with them.

River, my anger over the fundamentalist boogeyman narrative left me reading recorded as recorded history. Like any good story, the words were chosen to almost but not quite say this. The headline is rather sensationalist because the record goes back no more than 20-30 years in some cases, but I will concede my error even though the spiritus mundi remains in the intent.

I do, however, stand behind my criticism that surveying things like drug and contraceptive use and declaring "best behaved" as a result of words is rather interesting.

First, I appreciate your acknowledgement.

But this is what I don't get about a few of you in this forum....you say you are angry over the "fundamentalist boogeyman", yet for some strange reason you direct that anger towards me, a non-fundamentalist who shares your view! How weird is that? I mean, if you're angry at what fundamentalists are saying, take it up with the fundamentalists, not the person who's also criticizing them.

I do, however, stand behind my criticism that surveying things like drug and contraceptive use and declaring "best behaved" as a result of words is rather interesting.
What other metric do you think should be looked at in such an analysis?

Ummm everything...........

Too many items are not measurable. Take a gander at Orwell's 1984 again. His concept of doing all the minor things correctly so as to not attract attention to yourself as you privately decimate (reduce by a factor of ten) mportant issues (like spirituality).

Luke 18:19-23
A ruler asked Him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

“Why do you call Me good?” Jesus asked him. “No one is good but One—God. You know the commandments:

Do not commit adultery;
do not murder;
do not steal;
do not bear false witness;
honor your father and mother.”

“I have kept all these from my youth,” he said. When Jesus heard this, He told him, “You still lack one thing: Sell all that you have and distribute it to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow Me.” After he heard this, he became extremely sad, because he was very rich.

Before you even begin to define the metrics, what is the definition of good (well-behaved, whatever other term) that we are working with?

We are such a victim of our culture that we must quantify everything and reduce it to an empirical state where it can be properly measured and determined.

It amazes (and saddens) me how when I post something positive about today's kids, so many immediately show up to try and say "Nuh uh!!" Makes me wonder why it's so important for some people to try and shoot this down. What's going on with folks who can't find it in themselves to just say "Oh, that's nice"?

How old are you guys?

I am speaking from both sides of the fence, as a student and as a teacher. As a student in the 50s, we did what we were told, no question. As a teacher (I came into it late in life) my first teaching post was in a Christian School and someone asked me how things were going. I remember my reply very clearly "I can't believe that these so called christian kids are so rude and insolent."

First the church and then the world.

Number 1.

You didn't say "church" kids.

Number 2.

You always lament that kids are leaving the church.

Number 3.

Put 1 and 2 together and you are praising secular society and the wonderful way they are rearing our kids.

Then again, you are very secular on many things. So, forgive us our mistrust.

My age is of no consequence.

Im not sure if Im seeing this, but if the stats are there I suppose there is merit to it.
I just wonder about all the school shootings lately. maybe kids are better behaved but maybe the mental health just isnt so good.

My son is 18 he was brought up in a pretty normal modern environment, he's a good kid, did well at school and is moving on well in life, he was very popular at school and still has a bunch of mates, he and his mates played a lot of PlayStation and computer games. not like my generation in to playing instruments and wanting to play in bands. that lifestyle was about sex drugs and rock n roll. it was about fast cars and motorbikes. but times have changed, I think the games have sheltered the kids, where as we used to roam the streets at all hours they stay home and play games online. but I think it has desensitized them too, nothing is shocking to them, they see real life played out in front of them like some game. My son saw a guy get shot on YouTube and i said to him what are you watching and he said it was a link put on his Facebook, I asked him if he was ok and I could see in his face that he felt he should be disgusted by it because of my reaction, but I dont think he was. he just brushed it off and said "dont worry Dad Ive seen worse"
My 18 year old has seen worse?!
But of course he has, its all through those games, its all over the net. TV has sex all over it like its normal to be promiscuous in fact its encouraged otherwise there's something wrong with you. I could go on for ages. Im no old prude Im still young actually Im a young father. but I seriously cant see our young getting better, this could be the eye of the storm if anything.

Nice post Madad.
High Five brother!!

Prior to this deployment I worked Security at a major Gold Coast Casino resort. It has a a hotel and three major nightclubs not counting side bars and resturants.
I tell ya from about Friday midday until about 6am Sunday morning it was carnage.

The drugs they take do not cause euphoria like coke and ecstasy did, even that's now laced now with meth, it causes delusions and delirium and hyper sensationalism. They mix this with copious amounts of alcohol.
Now we are all big boys most of us body builders and power-lifters we all do combat training in restraint techniques and we have to do first aid refreshers every month, and still it takes 4 or 5 of us to restrain just one out of their minds. The ones we dont throw in lock up for the police to collect in the morning we have to keep alive with defrib's and oxygen restrained on gurneys until ambulances arrive.

I have seen my work mates bleed from the ears, eyes from the tops of their skulls, I have seen them go in ambulance's and not come back, I have cleaned pools of their blood off the pristine polished floors, as young ones walk past and make jokes like "ha ha good job, you mongrels deserve it" (except they dont use the word mongrels) they think its amusing that a minimum wage guard protecting their night out gets dragged off to hospital in a bloody heap.

Im telling you I have seen the face of our enemy in our youth. nobody can tell me I dont know what a demon looks like, nobody dare tell me I dont know what evil is.
I have had young girls and guys threaten to come back with guns, most carrying knives, they have threatened many times to find me and kill my family rape my wife and kids, because I wont let them come in, or I had to ask them to leave. this is from the mouths of babes.

I have given hours and hours of medical care to guys and girls so whacked out that they cant tell the sky frrom the ground and their own body parts from something to eat. I have been covered in body fluids of every kind and I have scrubbed myself red raw.

I see what's going on behind their eyes just before they hock a glob of spit in my face, the evil, the pure hatred, if they had a gun they would shoot me.
This was from Friday lunch till Sunday breakfast and Im talking hundreds not just a handful, I know because I helped count up the ATL's at the end of the night.

The young have no sense of holding back, they let hatred rule them, they let their emotions go completely, young girls taking their clothes off in public doing lewd acts in front of strangers because they are not in control of their body's.

They take these substances and drink so much that the enemy is fully in control and anarchy reigns, every depraved desire is acted upon no holds barred.
You guys might think Im being dramatic, but I can assure you I am not even telling you the half of it.

Our enemy is alive and well and he is having a great time with our kids.

look after them and be hard on them, stand your ground and say no when you know you should, they may hate you for the night, but at least you know that they will still be there tomorrow.
